T-lynn girl you are awesome at catching up!

I just finished algebra 1, got 97.8%! Now onto algebra 2. :/ hoping I do just as well, its tough! Definitely giving my brain a work out!

BADma, oh my gosh, love the video!!!

Shelly how was your time with your sailor? Got any pictures to share? Oh and did you and hubby go to Barrett Jackson? How'd that go if you did?

Love, hugs and prayers to you all :)

  • Shelly

Alicia, the visit with our sailor was unbelievable. We got there on Saturday morning just in time to pick him up just outside the base. Of course the first thing he wanted to do was eat. It was a great weekend. And yes I was a blubbering mom when we left him on Monday afternoon. But we are so thankful for the time. My heart was heavy but happy. I have pictures but I don't know how to post them from my iPad.

Oh and Alicia, my goodness girl, 97.8 is close to perfect. I am impressed. Great job.
Yes we went to Barrett Jackson and we sold 2 cars and did very well. It was a lot of fun.
T-Lynn, catching up wow, you are amazing! How do you do that! I think I see it all and I know I missed something. When did I miss the video? Boy ladies we are an active bunch. I will need to check in more often.
    Have a great week everyone!
  • bsb

Weather report: most schools closed for tomorrow, interstate is closed, 30 below zero tomorrow for temp, no new snow but extremely windy, so white out conditions with partial sunshine.

    Badma--video was great!

Sailor and his girlfriend broke up, it was a slow process, but I think she finalized the break up right before Christmas. I think it was just too hard for him and I think he felt like he was holding her back. Makes me sad.

I've been to 3 funerals in a month! That pretty much sucks, all 3 men were in their 50's. That makes me sad too.

    Wow--ain't I a downer!

Stay warm everyone that needs to stay warm, and those that are where it is warm--please share!

  • Sally Dyck

    Hi Janai'sMom,

Thanks for asking your daughter about this. I should have been more specific. I spoke with my son Saturday. He said they haven't had services on the base for about 2 months and he was missing it, so was looking for a church somewhere in Sasebo. He saw one online, but was having trouble finding it. I was also wondering if maybe there were Bible studies or something other than just the Sunday Morning services that he would be able to connect with others who want to worship and pray together. He's been having some rough weeks there and it would be really nice if he had some good friends.

  • Kim

Sally, I sent you a friend request.  I am going to contact my daughter in law for you, but I wanted specific information.  She is Japanese and from Sasebo, her English is really good, but I have to be specific when I ask her a question.

Blondie, I think you should hibernate for the winter.

TLynn, next time paint you address on your bins.  It makes it easier to find yours.

I'm just catching up on here.  More later.

  • barbara10/08

We're in the deep freeze here, having the coldest winter in 35 years,  but Blondie, you win for worst weather, that's for sure!

Love the pic of the snowbow.  Don't think I've ever seen one of those before:)  And, glad you are Not shoveling-you have enough to do!!

Badma, wonderful homecoming-you are indeed an inspiration!  Also noted the warm sunny weather.  Gotta leave our faucets dripping tonight so they won't freeze.  My sister-in-law had her pipes freeze in their new addition which has no basement. She wants to put on the pipes those  electric things people put on their roofs to keep from having icicles.   Does this sound like a good idea?

Maggs, DSLR would be great, that is my long term goal too.  You take great pics with the camera you have!  The camera club sounds like fun.

Shelly, hugs to you & glad you had a nice visit.

Bsb- wow, usually, it is never just one but that is a lot for one month!  Hugs to you too. About sailor- probably for the best, but you never know, if it was meant to be they could end up together down the road.

And I am a great-aunt:))  About 2 weeks early.   Nephew and his wife are both older and welcomed this cutie on Jan 23rd and finally posted pics.  Her name is ahem,,, Stella Vegas.
    What can I say?

  • Mississippi Mom

    Barbara, she is so adorable!

Wow, Blondie, you make me feel so guilty with our Southern weather, and yet we are to get down to 12 tonight and 9 tomorrow night.  We were down to 5 last Friday, and we are all still shivering!  We had a beautiful weekend, it got to 55 Sat. and up to 60 yesterday.  Hubby built a shelf for our basement for him and Sailor to organize all of their hunting gear, and a place to hang their waders up to dry.  I helped him get outside to the yard yesterday to paint it.  Then helped him get it back inside.  Now to get all of their gear on it and to clean out my basement.  I have 2 dorm rooms, and last year's apt. stuff  in it, plus everything the Sailor has down there.   Daughter told me to puther stuff in a yard sale if I wanted to.  I  thinking I will do so in the Spring.   Oh by the way South Missisippi is expecting up to 6 inches of snow!  That is crazy! I live in Northeast MS, so no snow for us.   I love your pictures of the snow as well!  Please be careful and tell that hubby of yours to slow down also.

Alicia- way to go girl!  I am sure you will do as well with Algebra 2 now that you are a pro!

Shelley, happy you had a great visit with your Sailor

  • BADma

Maggs...that is crappy news. There are so many people who abuse the system they screw it up for people who are really I need. I hope that some good news  comes your way!

Blondie.... those snow pictures are very interesting. Geez, I hope you guys get a heatwave SOON!

  • blm

    Cold here in Pittsburgh too

I am part of a ballet dance group (ages 16-67!) that danced at Carnegie Hall last weekend in NYC. What a thrill to be on that stage! We saw 2 shows while there-Kinky Boots and Avenue Q-both very entertaining

Hard to catch up on everyone-but I am on daily and think about you all. Great photos and stories. So sad to lose those so young-prayer to all

Maggs-hope something works out for hubby

  • jansu831

The Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms offer a quilt to Hollee Collins, Brian Collins’ mother, at his memorial service at Truckee High School on January 25, 2014.

  • jansu831

I just had to share that Facebook post about my friend Hollee being honored by the Blue Star Moms chapter.  What an amazing group.

I have been kicked out of this group again - for some reason my e-mail notifications just quit coming.  SO - I too had 10 pages to catch up on.  WOW!

I saw about snow rollers on the news last night - they are like our West Texas tumble weeds!  I have never seen anything like it.  I was coming on to ask Blondie about them when I realized how far behind I was on here.  So glad you posted the picture.

Maggs - so sorry about your husband.  I'm always shocked that some agency gets to decide that someone is able.  Isn't that a doctor's call?  But, the pharmaceutical company gets to decide that a drug my doctor prescribed is not for me and I need to take a different one.  So, I guess it all makes sense.  (NOT!)

Our hubbies will be unemployed together.  Mine really got laid off this time - as of December 20th.  I could do a 5 page rant on the unemployment office and their incompetency.  We marvel that they get to have a job but he doesn't.  He has to be enrolled in some kind of classes by June 14th to be able to collect unemployment.  He is trying to get enrolled ASAP and is asking for info.  His rep tells him not to worry about it - he doesn't even have to go until June 14th.  What's the rush?  So she's encouraging him to take advantage of the system???  Geez!

SO much going on here - way to much to comment on.  Prayers, laughs and hugs going all around as appropriate!

  • DramaSoul

Hi Moms.  My Corpsman's soft orders popped today.  3rd Marines in Okinawa.  Leaves stateside in September so I have some time.  Just kinda shocked right now.

  • madeatwin

My son is in Japan and has been there since July.  I am looking forward to him coming home soon.  I continue to pray for all who have children/relatives that are defending our country.  Sometimes the hardest job is just keeping watch from home knowing that they are defending all of us.

  • T-Lynn

    Hi All,

first off - Maggs and Jansu who do you wish me to turn into toads?

I know - I know - I hear you two saying: " I'm not suppose to do that "  BUT I am boiling mad here. I will send you both healing energy of Reiki and then with your permission work on a spell for something positive to come your way.

    Hi Drama and welcome :).

bsb - you danced on stage !!!! Hey share some pictures. How awesome and what an experience .

And then there is WIZ MAth Navy Mom Aleici !!!!!!!  Way to go. You stated you are exercising your brain cells. sounds more like you are on the attack!   Conrats.

So very happy to hear you had a great time with your sailor :).  Isn't that with all our sailors too. Get that hug and then their first words: " I'm starved- let's eat:

Kim - how are the sinus' ? Back been hurting too?  Let  the guys move those big boxes and your just direct the traffic flow in and out.

barb !!!!!!  Oh , I'm sorry Great Aunt Barb.  Little Stella Vegas is beautiful. I like the her name too. Waiting for a pic of you holding her.

Jansu - the Blue Star moms you are with are so kind.   How special and caring to give her a quilt. Now she will have love to cuddle her in quiet times.

Oh I just thought of something. ( sorry my brain has been in the off mood - I have had two snow days here)  Maggs - let Angel loose on those idiots ! She will think of something so creative - fun for them :). then share pics here.

Kathy - you have not share of late about your job with the training of the dogs.

Need some imput here or do I just have to come out and beg for gossip.

Al in favor of me begging say " I ". those not in favor - sorry I only want 'I" votes.

Miss - help me out here - did you say heating wires around pipes?  I think I have heard about those things. I know there is heating elements running through the floors here. Yes, it works , but not next to the walls. That cold air comes in where the walls and floor meet.  And honest I ma glad you are in the NO snow area of Mississippi. What we are getting, I am not sharing.

Ok - , who's place was making the shelves in the basement for the waders to dry? I have gone soft again ( I must need coffee or chocolate. Better be chocolate -its late)

Blondie - only you would venture out to get phone numbers to call patients not to come in or reschedule their appointments.  then you say Men are crazy to go get meat!   Isn't  super Bowl weekend coming up? Hey got to have that meat to cook for the pre-game - during the game - half time and rest of game and don't forget - after game snacks ! I believe the only sides are chips - dip and beer.

And honestly - the tractors got stuck! But out you go?

thanks for staying normal Blondie - you keep us going with your strength :).

I forgot someone - let me go  back a minute.

  • T-Lynn

HI Sally :) found you. let us know when you sailor finds a church or church group to be with.  It nice to hear when a one's spirit is glowing :).

And Blondie - i did forget to say the pictures were amazing and those little darlings so precious all bundled up to help shovel.

I think I remembered all I wanted to share. i am waiting to hear IF we have  school tomorrow. I was thinking it was to be warming - but saw a wind chill warning again.  -20 to - 30  possible again tomorrow morning.

Wish all sweet dreams . hugs

  • Janai'sMom

Hi Moms! And especially USS Ashland moms! There is a 1 minute news clip on youtube of the Change of Command with some sailor footage. I got to see my girl for the first time in her dress blues. Oh happy dance! Type in AFN USA USS Ashland Change of Command,  Hopefully you get to see your sailor too.  Wishing you all a good day and warm weather.

  • BADma

    Welcome new 'Pan Moms!!

Jansu..... the quilt presentation is sweet.

Blondie & TLynn... you're over therelike..."it's FREEZING and snowin/blowing...COLD" and I'm like "WOW, beautiful sunny days AND a sailor homecoming here soon!!"

    No grandbaby YET!

  • Anti M

HI, I just got back from Mexico. Lovely, except I came down with the flu halfway through.  I did get to lie in bed and listen to the ocean, which was nice.  Now we're home and Larry came down with it this morning.  But still, it was nice while we felt good, some pool time, a trip to a tiny old village and a tequila factory, lunch at tables set in a river... right in the water, it was romantic.  Coconut shrimp like I've never had before on the beach.

Stella Vegas... Stella is a beautiful name, and Vegas is growing on me.  Could be worse, at least it is spelled properly, can be pronounced and is a cool name if she wants to be a musician.  Vegas, baby!

Blondie, wow on the snowy rollers!

Maggs, sorry about the bad news.  Grrrrr.

Now, now, T, no toads.  Tsk tsk!

    Welcome new moms!

I am still catching up, hope I haven't made any mistakes.

  • Shelly

Hi All, Here to catch up and share a couple of pictures from our reunion with our sailor.

Barbara-congratulations "Great Auntie".  Love the picture of the snow cat!

Mississippi-6" of snow in your area?  I am so glad I live in the southwest.  BURRRRR

Blondie-love your pictures.  This is the only way I want to experience the cold.

Maggs_Such a bummer about your hubby.  Sending out positive vibes for your family.  Something will come your way..

Jansu-Blue Star Moms so special.  Thanks for sharing the picture.

Anti M-Sick in Mexico? :( So sad.  Now hubby has it?  hope you both feel better soon.

Welcome to the new Moms!! You will love it here!!

  • Shelly

This is a picture of my sailor and hubby watching the game last Sunday.  Both big Bronco fans.  It was so special to have them together to watch the game.  I was just sitting there soaking up the view.

  • Shelly

This is me any my boy.  I love that sailor of mine.  We were walking the pier near our hotel.  If you look in the background there is a boat named "Veronica".  That my niece's name.  We took this picture for her!

  • Sailormum

    Go Broncos!
  • Shelly

I forgot that I have another picture.  I posted this on facebook after a discussion with our sailor.  He had several people suggest that he was a recent fan of the Broncos.  I had to prove them wrong.  He has been a fan since birth and this proves it. One month old and dressed in his Bronco attire for a game.

  • Alicia(12/053 - AO)♥

Great, had a comment and accidentally deleted it. Maybe you'll see it in your notifications??
  • Shelly

Alicia-I got it on my ipad.  You are doing a great job with everything.  Kids, sailor, job, school.  Whew, I am tired just typing it!  Keep it up hon, you can do it.  Just breath a little and you will get there.  And you can't tell me you aren't doing your best when you are getting a 97%!  Whatever you do, its great!!

  • BADma

Shelly.... love the pictures! Did your sailor go back to Japan already?

I had a panicky moment his morning. My friend, who was going to make my daughter's wedding cake, has to cancel. She bakes as a hobby. She had requested 2 days off to do the cake and her boss denied the request! Thank God for FB...hopefully I have found a replacement.

Alicia..... I had posted here earlier and either my computer is acting wonky OR I had a total brain cramp and deleted it myself.

  • Alicia(12/053 - AO)♥

    Awww, thank you Shelly! <3
BADma i was just trying to scroll on this dumb phone and i hit the little x. Didn't give any kind of "are you sure you want to delete this" message like i usually get. Oh well :/
  • Mississippi Mom

Shelly, I love the pictures!  So happy you got to spend some time with that handsome Sailor!  And him being a BRONCO fan, well that is just icing on the cake!!!

The snow was actually in South Mississippi.  We did get a dusting on Tuesday, but all blew away!  My Sailor laughed when I told him this. It was very pretty, but it was a dry snow, and we had lots of wind that day and even though it was bitter cold here, it really did blow away.  We have been in the single digits for three nights, but it is suppose to start warming up here today and then rain.

AntiM, Bummer that you got the flu on your trip, and now Larry has it.  Hope you both feel better soon!  Happy you still managed to enjoy your trip even though you were sick.

Badma, so happy you found a replacement!!!  Wow, I would have been panicking also. I hope it all works out.

  • DramaSoul

Well....I have to weigh in on this Bronco stuff.  While I grew up in SoCal, I have lived in the Northwest for over 30 years so...I am rooting for the SEAHAWKS. For some reason I have never been a Broncos fan.  My BFF and her hubby are from Colorado so we have agreed to not talk football.

Still getting used to the whole idea of the deployment to Okinawa.  Do they get leave to come home?  The idea of not seeing him for the whole deployment is too painful to contemplate.

AntiM...I think you were one of the admins when I first found N4M 2 years ago. It was you and BunkerQB whom I have had the pleasure of staying with when I went to a M&G in San Francisco.  Hope you are feeling better!

  • Anti M

LOL< I was never an admin, just ... vocal.  BQB is still around too.  You didn't meet me out there, I've not been to one of the meet n greets.

They do earn 30 days of leave each year.  When and if they get to take it depends on the mission.  The trip home is out of pocket.

  • DramaSoul

AntiM...That was a poorly worded comment I made.  I had the pleasure of staying with BQB when I went to SF for a M&G.  You and BQB were the ones who were so helpful and vocal when I first joined N4M.  I did not mean to imply that we had met yet!  I am still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing of not seeing him for 3 years so I am a little meshuganah as we say in Yiddish.  A little crazy.  The good news is I will get to see him before all of this transpires.

Blondie....love that.  And it isn't even that cold here in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Anti M

Oh, I see!  Yeah, I understand a little Yiddish.  But no worries, I;m sure you'll see him sometime during the three years.  Do you think you'd be able to go visit?

My poor mom, I was stationed in Japan twice, and Diego Garcia for a year, and then my husband had orders in Japan for a couple more stints.  12 years in total for me.  They surely did come to visit a few times!  That is completely unusual, it was when women got overseas duty as sea duty, we couldn't go on ships then.

  • Grayce

Well, our Sailor is snowed in Pensacola! He was supposed to fly out today but said everything got delayed because of the 1/2" of snow...really!
Now, I know us Southerners aren't used to snow but this messing with our family time is going to make me crazy! T-Lynn feel free to hex whoever is responsible for that ;)
Blondoe , I missed whatever was with the snow rollers but those were very cool pics. I need to get on here on the laptop and post some pics. Just haven't had time.

My Grandmother was called home early Thursday morning after 95 years in this world. Our lives are dimmed by her passing but I'm so happy she will be reunited with her family, husband, and my Dad. My sister and I made the trek Wednesday to see her, over an hour away and she was struggling so much jusr to breathe... I just couldn't help hoping it would be soon. Hospice gave her at most 72 hrs but she knew when to make her exit. She was aware and talking to each of us as we came in. Family and friends all through the day visiting, and then with my uncle sitting by her bed and holding her hand, she went to sleep and slipped away about 4am.
On second thoyght, may be a good thing he didn't get to come home today. Last Monday we had to put our sweet kitty to rest. He was 15 and had a mass in his bladder.
In between we celebrated wedding anniversary.
I'm tired...and really looking forward to some time off when our Sailor gets home.
Hugs and prayers to those that need them. Stay warm and safe!
  • T-Lynn

    Gentle Hugs Gravce.

Thank you for sharing how lovingly your mom retired from this world.  So very glad you could be with her. I felt sad , but with that much love there - it was sweet in a way too. Gentle hugs . ( Sorry about kitty too. Guess he felt that your mom needed a kitty to pet.)

thinking positive that your son will make it home soon. ANd that your time will be just what you two need. Time to store up hugs .

Ok, I know Anti M I'm suppose to be nice but sometimes you just want to put someone in their place. Even if it is a lily pad. BUT - I'll  be good ( kicking and screaming ) and send positive thoughts that only good will  come out that mess for Maggs and Jansu. We all could get out our Voo Doo Dolls and just stick them a little :). - maybe ?

Oh to the new Moms here - we all have our Voo Doo dolls. Mostly Sailor ones. To get our kids to CALL - email - fb - us!

Anti M - so glad you had a good trip ...? Well, I mean sitting by the ocean, coconut shrimp, a very romantic river dinner, a tequila factory and WARM sunshine !!!! But the flu, I don't remember you putting that on your list. Sorry about poor Larry now having it. But you always so nice to share :).  Waiting for pics and more stories.

Oh Blondie your fur grand baby is so cute. Sorry - did you say his/her name?

Shelly - great pics !!! he still is a cutie too. ( baby pic was so dear)

Maggs - what about the penguins that live at the equator? Just asking :)

( trying to get your Irish - sorry your Scottish up ) giggling here.

I am sorry though - Angel told me to say that.

Gee BADma - a little bragging there about your good weather. Careful karma might get you and it will rain on the wedding day. OH - wait that is good . Ole saying: " if it rains on your wedding day - you will always be blessed with money."  I vote rain.  Did I read right - no one to make a cake? Or you found a new one?  ANd how did the home coming do for the sailor?

    Are you a Grandma yet?

Hi Drama - how things going? Say more things in Yiddish please, never really heard it before.

Alecia - looking forward to hearing how your class goes.  Know you will be 100%

Well, we still had school and it was cold that Wednesday morning, but by the evening we had a heat wave - it was 12 degress !!!!!! Awesome !!!!!

Now we are under another snow storm warning and some talk of no school on Monday. I give up - just close this month and come back on Ground Hog Day. works for me.

These pass weeks of no school and some school has the kids so hyper. I mean off the wall hyper

Well need to get along. My eyes are a bit blurry. Been doing alot of paper work - so they must need a rest

    Sweet dreams all hugs

  • DramaSoul

You guys seem like a great group! Lotsa laughs.
Grayce...that was a beautiful sweet post. May you all be comforted at this tender time.

As for the Yoddish...I grew up with my grandmothers (one from New York, the other from Chicago) speaking Yiddish mostly when they didn't want us to understand what they were saying. I am in rehearsal for a play in which I am
playing a Jewish grandmother trying to marry off her granddaughter. There is some Yiddish in the script so I am relearning some of it. It is pretty funny...especially when I have to sing an old Yiddish folk song.

Voo Doo dolls??? This sounds interesting! Does it work? Because if it does, I need to make one ASAP.
  • blm

Here's a photo of part of my group (I'm in middle)from Carnegie Hall-we did a piece from Three Penny Opera-Mack the Knife (we were the ladies of the night-a lot of fun!

Grayce-my sympathy to your on your loss'

    Blondie-love kids in the snow!!

My gal was in CA for training this week and has headed back to Japan.

  • barbara10/08

Shelly, nice pics!  Love the Broncos one:)  Handsome sailor!

Grayce, deepest sympathy on the loss of your grandma-may she r.i.p.

Badma, ahh the crisis of wedding planning....hope the cake is back on track, otherwise, you better start baking!

    Go Alicia!

AntiM- Mexico sounds Wonderful, except for the sick part.
I know, baby's name could be worse.  It's the Vegas part that threw me off for a bit, but in the big scheme of things, not that big a deal.  She's going home to loving parents and a loving home, so it's all good.

Blondie, so is Sara ok?                      Light pillars-amazing and beautiful!  Great pics.  Look at that little cutie in the snow:)  Snow tunnels and caves are so much fun! Love the funnies.

Welcome DramaSoul- good to get on early and get a feel for things.  And don't forget, when they are in port you will be able to Skype and that is soo nice to see and hear them.             That play sounds like fun & connection to the past is awesome.

Maggs, oh boy, praying for a solution.
    And Jansu, you too.

Blm- how cool, both that you danced and got to see a couple shows.  You look fantastic!

T-Lynn, it is official.....the ole saying is Incorrect. (speaking from experience).
Thought of you when I saw this:)

  • barbara10/08

The sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt had some fun with the snow too!

  • momplus2

Moms!!I am so excited I can hardly contain myself!!!My son just private messaged me on facebook..he is coming into San Diego for training. His class  will last 3 weeks. I just booked my flight into San Diego to meet up with him. I can hardly wait to wrap my arms around him!! If anyone knows of a Navy friendly hotel in Cornado, California, I would greatly appreciate a referral. I haven't seen my son in 2 years! We have only been able to  talk 3 times. So very anxious!! Navy Hugs to all  BADma What a Cutie! So Alert! Congratulations!

  • jansu831

OMG momplus2 - that is the best news! 2 years is a long time. I didn't see mine for two years before he came home. He had changed so much. He was my same sweet baby but there is just a subtle difference that took me a while and a lot of staring to get used to him. When he came through the gate at the airport, I seriously asked my other son - is that him? They still laugh at me for that. (In my defense he had on some strange looking clothes! LOL!!!) happy happy happy for you. When is your trip?
  • momplus2

jansu831 thanks so much for the happy wishes. There is no one that I can tell around my community that knows exactly how I feel. I leave on Feb 20th so hopefully we will be able to spend a four wonderful days together before he leaves to go back. I am so excited! Thanks again for sharing in my over the top joy! A big Navy Hug to YOU!

Hi Barb. Yes, my friend did that with her turtle when ( Merlyn) when  he was a baby.  He was so small that he fit on a half dollar. And he would NOT stay in one place. Talk about fast too. I know - because I baby sat that little thing when she went on a vacation. I lost him too! Luckily teh kids found him- he was sleeping with Shark. then I put on the kitchen table to feed him. Hubby then place a fresh out of the stove double cheese pizza on the table. I turn my head to answer a question and then turn back to feed Merlyn. He was in teh middle of the pizza eating the cheese!  Wish I had seen that pic when I was watching him.

Well, need to sleep - Wish all sweet dreams.

Oh - who is feeling scared?  I feel someone. hugs
