Ok I will I don't talk to him very much... Kind of gotten use to it. He's not my baby anymore (he'd a grown man) lol
  • scully_the_skeptic

LOL drew7062 - mines the same way - he's 25 now - and he's adverse to spending "too much" money. he'd rather meet halfway (like Hawaii) or London and pay the airfare to those places rather than come all the way back to the states (not that I blame him). his friends are all over, too.

  • DREW7062

Skulls the skeptic... I'm tired of pulling the little hair I have out.... Lol these kids aren't going to drive me crazy as they say skulls Whatever, they are cheap and want to spend all my hard earned money lol

    HI

Love the pictures Maggs !!! Please submit them to a Nature Magazine or enter some contest. Honest you are such a natural - you WILL win ! I would not be surprised that magazine would want to hire you for those pictures. Oh I never saw your last post. Sorry, you felt you had to delete it. You know its ok to blow off steam here. That is what our ears are for. Then our hearts hug you.

How I feel? Well Older son adn Riker are finally acting normal. Riker is back to running double circles around me. But still coughing. Sailor did go to the walk in and received medication for a very bad sinus infection. As for me - I just had to get it all over again! I was in bed the entire weekend. I cough at night - yes using Jack. And had to get back on medication too.Could not believe it. I even have open our windows trying to air out the place. And I carry lotion in my pocket to lather up my hands because i am scrubbing so much. I am so trying to get rid of what ever is making us sick.

    Oh - Happy Spring all!

Nice hearing from you Drama. Now it would be nice if Miss and Josh mom would get on. And even the birthday girl - Kathy.  You share how you partied!

Not hearing from your sailor. I remember once here - we all posted how long it was of NOT hearing from them. I think one Mom was 6 months. Adn I think that is when teh Sailor Voo Doo Doll holding a cell phone made its appearance. Hey - Blondie - you still have a pic of the doll?  Instead of saying have not heard from them- we just say - we got the Sailor Blues. I think in the discussions area is the dictionary we made up. Take a look new moms.

Well, I wish all here a good week. i need to get off - coughing is back. I have to go find Jack. ( By the way Blondie - how is Jack? - the dog to those who don't know his name) hugs

My sailor will be unavailable for 3 weeks - heading to Australia for a training exercise.  He's been gone from home for 1 year - bless his heart, from playing games and sports to being a man!  From hustle bustle of South Florida to basic training to Pensacola to Norfolk to Japan!  Busy year!  Yeah, momma is missing her sailor! Happy Easter everybody!

  • T-Lynn

    HI

I made time to get here. So glad all had a good Easter.

I was happy we had sun shine on Saturday. That was the Easter Egg hunt at the club. Riker made out like a bandit.  In his age group - there were only 6 kids hunting for 300 eggs. Riker got 163. Teh eggs were plastic with candy and winning coupons in them. He won a chocolate bunny. But turning in those eggs - he earned a penny for each egg. Then coloring contest and he won side walk chalk in the shape of eggs.  Adn he had a great tine with the kids.

Saturday afternoon - hubby took me out on a date! WE went to seee the movie My Bid Fat Greek Wedding 2.  GO see this - you will laugh and laugh.  Then back home to help dye eggs. Sunday - hubby made breakfast - Riker and his daddy went to store for fresh donuts in the shape of eggs. Then after breakfast the egg hunt in teh living room. He had a so much fun. The rest of the day was doing some cleaning and moving a home made work table - left by the original owner. It is perfect to hold the computer - printer - files. So our computer area is more compact and in order. Move a shelf  over to the craft area and rearranged that area too. Looks so much nicer adn now time to paint the area,

Love the pictures Blondie. Conor is so BIG. And those sweet little girls. Blondie there is a sweet new baby needed your hugs.Good to hear about Jake.

Shark has started her walk abouts. Just walks and walks around teh room - non stop. Still picky about eating too. But wants to held at the end of the day.

I hope everyone had a good Easter and hear from their sailors too. Good luck ManCub Mama. Please let us know how things go. Sending positive thoughts your way.

    Wish all a great week.

Oh forgot - FINALLY that sickie bug is leaving !!!!

    Hugs

  • T-Lynn

Here is Riker at the club. He liked collecting teh eggs until teh grass touched him. At that moment he started pointing to teh eggs adn mommy and daddy started fetching them. He has them trained. Then he was so determined to color on his own!. His daddy is trying to get pictures and my hubby is in teh background. Have not a clue what he he is doing.

  • T-Lynn

Riker and daddy coloring on teh eggs before dying. Then finding those huge plastic eggs ! Filled with toys and books. He did gatherer real the real eggs and threw them on the sofa instead of placing them in the basket. We made egg salad shortly after. Then he had to read his new book and last photo shows his Jack Pot of stuff for Easter.

  • Tracysmom

  • Tracysmom

So buy a phone here and take or wait and get a phone there?

  • Jesusintheboat

My son not able to use his phone from here had to buy one in Japan

  • T-Lynn

    HI,

Tracysmom - what Glair1 said !!!!!! Everything she said - I suggest for you sailor to do! Everything she said is what my sailor did. Honest - get the phone there and put a military hold on his USA cell phone IF he purchased one. Teh cell phone companies here in teh USA services do not work in Japan.

Hope all are having a good week. hugs all

T Lynn anti m you mentioned not long ago about how we can get in touch of an odbusdman. My son is in Yokosuka and he's working in the hospital over there and I haven't heard from him how do I get in touch with the Odbudsman getting kind of worried.
    Thank you
    Drew
  • Anti M

    Love and hugs, Maggs.

  • Anti M

@Drew, here is a list of the emails for every ombudsman at all the commands in Yokosuka, yours will be the Naval Hospital one:

My son has an older iPhone and we have AT &T.  He and I both talk to each other on WhatsApp.  As long as he is somewhere with decent WiFi, it works just fine.  I really don't want to do the international plan if we don't have to.  We are still trying to get used to the time difference.  Most times he calls me at 0600 here since it is evening there.

  • DREW7062

Anti M Thank you so much for the Ombudsman info
....Lauren. You as well.i will be getting in touch
    Drew
  • scully_the_skeptic

great Easter pics!  thanks for sharing.

  • Zman Mom

Need some advice. My son will be underway for the first time soon. He said they were advised to get a sleeping bag for their ship rack. Any suggestions/Web links would be helpful and most appreciated.
  • T-Lynn

    HI

Blondie - so such luck that she will fire you. She can't operate with out YOU ! I still think and hope one day you will submit a bill for all your overtime to her. Then tell her - pay up or I walk! That boss has not clue what all you do. And have fun in 2 weeks - looking forward to stories and pics.

Hi Maggs !!! Glad you were able to celebrate. And I hugged Shark for you. She actually has started to be in a cuddling and hold me mood. She must have know about that holiday. And its ok to loose it once in a while. We've got ears to hear and hugs to share.  Gentle hugs

Glad you were able to get in contact with Ombudsman. Sorry no clue what type of sleeping bag. I can only remember my sailor purchasing those Mink blankets. he said those were great - so a sleeping bag that WILL help keep him warm and give comfort.

Would that be a winter sleeping bag type?

Good luck and share when you know.

Need to get - hugs all

  • Anti M

Blondie, I hope you have a terrific time with your sailor, well, I KNOW you will!

Just about any sleeping bag will do for on the ship.  I think the flannel lined are most comfortable.  Find a company which ships to FPO and order straight from them.

My Japanese friend is posting pictures of cherry blossoms at Kamakura on Facebook.  I miss her, and she is making me homesick!  She is visiting her parents, she lives and works in Singapore now.  I tutored her in English for many years when I was there.  She also speaks Mandarin Chinese, very smart young woman!

  • Anti M

My friend took some sakura pictures in the park near the base in Yokosuka; so I thought I'd share one.

  • Zman Mom

Thanks AntiM for the suggestion. Didn't know they made those type sleeping bags.
  • Anti M

Maggs, good to hear our husband is doing well.  Ouch on the diabetes.  I know I am "pre".  I managed to get 15 pounds off, but some of that is because I can't eat much after this surgery, but mostly because I do old fashioned calorie tracking.  It is boring and frustrating, but the scale dipped under 200 after ten years of being stuck well above.  Weight loss is such a weird thing as you age, so stubborn, so difficult.

  • Anti M

Get a short hair cut with wispy side bangs, don't cover your forehead.  Bold move, but hair grows back.  Is there a good beautician in your area?  Oh, and get some color in it, don't be scared of nice highlights or actual color, such as a streak of your favorite color.  Go for it.  Life is too short to play it safe.

My hair is very long now, and yes, I keep it up most of the time.  It is doing a great silver thing now, so I am enjoying that.

  • T-Lynn

    HI

Congrats to hubby - Maggs !!!!! But gee - Maggs, really? Fingers crossed that you only need to drop a few pounds. That is how my mother-n-law takes care of her condition.

And congrats AntiM. loosing weight is a problem - and I know you have been really counting those calories.
and thank you for the picture of the cherry blossums. I have forgotten about that festival. I remember my sailor sharing pictures. He said it was so nice.  Blondie remember you and Kim trying to get a group of us to meet during this time in DC.  That would still be awesome to have a Meet and Greet.

I will never give up on that dream to finally really hug everyone.

Me too, on hair cut. I really got it cut - the Jamie Curtis look.  Love it!. but I have not been back so my bangs are touching my eye brows.  That tickles.

I have been able to get on because dil does not have to be to work until 10 AM on Tuesdays now. So I made time to chat.  And kids are taking about day care too. That means I could go back to work. I do love caring for him, but this watching has expanded to too many weekends.  No time off, that has been much at times. Keep yo all posted.

My sailor must be feeling better. Found a picture of a baseball game he attened. Now waiting to hear who playe who and who won.

need to get, got grandson and diaper change is needed. hugs all

    oiiujjvboet5i 54ordi r54  hi from Riker

  • Kim

Maggs, great news about your husband.  The power of prayer must be working.  Now we need to add you to our list.  I know you are too tough for this.  You will turn it around.

Blondie, have fun with your sailor.

    Love the Cherry Blossoms.

Sailor visited this weekend.  His wife stayed home and had her own "me" time.  I babysat Saturday night while he and his two brothers had fun.  Sailor is going back to the fleet this fall (trying for Japan) and my youngest leaves in a week for a new job. He is headed to Oklahoma for training and doesn't know were he will be working, but he won't be back here.  Should be quiet this Christmas.

My grandson was so much fun.  He is running and playing.  My back is sore today.

  • Kim

    Grandma made cookies!

BLONDIE - wow it's cold where you are well if it's any consolation I'm in Michigan lol and it's in the teens but a few weeks ago it was 65 and 70 laughing. That's .Michigan For ya. My magnolia trees are blooming my tulips are blooming OMG! hope the frost don't kill them.

MAGGS - I'm sorry about what's happening with you and hubby. Yes, the power of prayer and you know prayers are coming your way.... In 2007 I had bariatric surgery at the time I was 52 years old and when I went to the doctor he said you're now 335 pounds. I came home and sat on my bed and cried how the hell could I have gotten this big. I felt like crap he said well test came back sugar is high, blood work is the worst she has seen and blood pressure was. 175/110 yep I just didn't know what I was going to do. I got my bible and just started reading and I felt like I just didn't want to go in. I was a fat blob. I started reading about the bariatric surgery and I went to the seminars and I sent the paperwork into my insurance company and it was approved. I was happy and excited and scared all at the same time. Well to make a long story short it's 2016 9 years later and I'm 138 lbs (200 lbs smaller) and a marathon runner yep I said it marathon runner I run the Boston every year and the Detroit free press every year and I'm now 62 years old. No diabetes, no high blood pressure!! In 2010 my 21 year old daughter committed suicide and I'm still struggling with that and I'm sure I will forever but I run because that's what she loved to do and she always wanted me to run with her, now I am... Smi,I got to keep from crying. So I say all this to say Maggs be strong and you know I got big (((HUGS)))) for you....

ANTI M- Yoo-hoo thank you for the info about the Ombudsman I sent an email he responded with 15 mins and my son called me within an hour!!!!! He's trying to get a leave now from Yokosuka to come home for hopefully thirty days. Looks like I have to pay for his airline ticket lol. Does anyone know where I can purchase an airline ticket round trip from Yokosuka? Cheap rates
Thank you all sooo much you're great
  • Anti M

Drew, before you buy a plane ticket, have him check the prices through the travel agent on base there.  They get deals we never see here!  MWR ITT. You can still pay for it, but he;d have to book it.  IACE is the travel agent, you can see the link.

    http://www.navymwryokosuka.com/programs/0ecbada7-8358-4dd1-9213-195...

If he doesn't use them, use one of the search engines online such as kayak, orbitz or expedia.  I've used them all to compare prices.  A direct flight might be more expensive, but makes life 100% easier.

  • DREW7062

Anti m - thanks again you are great! I'm emailing him the info now
  • Kim

I like cheapoair.com because it includes alternate dates, nearby airports and it will combine airlines in it's search.  It has fees, so I try to find the same flights somewhere else.  Call the airlines.  Sometimes they put aside airfares for active duty.  I got that once.

  • Anti M

Only two airports near Yokosuka; Narita outside of Tokyo, and Haneda near Yokohama.  There are trains and MWR shuttles to both airports, no problem.

  • Lauren - Ship 11 Div 317

We found decent pricing on Delta, and I was told to make it our of Narita per my guy, glad you heard back Drew7062 !!!

  • DREW7062

Thank everyone sooooo much regarding info on plane tickets much appreciated.

A group from Japan are in Australia on a little mission.  My sailor is in the bunch!  This was posted on the VFA-115's page!

  • Anti M

We have been having a beautiful stretch of weather.  I have seen some of the storm damage posted online, my heart goes out to a lot of people!

I will have surgery next week, so I may be online a lot soon.  I am both happy to get this done, and apprehensive.  Widh me luck!

  • 2tymeNavyMom

I would swear mother nature is bi-polar as well although we are having nothing like what you are having Blondie.  Yesterday on one stretch of freeway it rained for two blocks.  The road before and after were completely dry.  I thought the groundhog said winter was supposed to be coming to and end.

Wishing you luck, prayers, good mo-jo etc. Anti M.

  • tytulip40

Oh my word!  What state?  Going to read up on this and sending lots of prayers.

  • DREW7062

BLINDIE - my condolences to that family of the child that took his life. Please understand that it is a mental illness they are hurting and up in pain. A pain that we cannot understand . Sometimes you don't see it coming. In most cases of suicide you do see signs - in my beautiful dUghters case there were none. A beautiful 21 year old girl that maintained a 4.0 throughout high school and pre med and 2 weeks after I buried my beautiful 21 year old child in Sept of 2010 I receiceved her acceptance letter at John Hopkins Medical school. She would have been 27 years old in May of this year. So you see unless a parent has gone through this it is very difficult for anyone to feel our pain and believe me there is NO PAIN LIKE THIS PAIN. I will die with this hole in my heart. I've had 5 years of therapy and I've learned to cope. Smiling through the tears. I am now an advocate for giving more funding for people with mental illness and the surgeon general is now saying we need more focus and instead of suicide being taboo we feel it should be talked about with our young folks. So you see I feel that woman's pain and I pray for her because we are not suppose to bury our children.
    Drew
  • DREW7062

BLONDIE THANK YOU, I'm an advocate and I do a lot of speaking regarding suicide. It's easy for US to understand but not for them. Believe me I've gone through some difficult time and still am, and I know TOMORROW is another day, and possibly a better day, but our young people don't see it that way. I miss my baby girl who will FOREVER be 21. My hurt comes from years of her struggling with the PAIN and what she was going through up until the day she COMPLETED suicide, not so much as her being gone, because I know now she is in no more pain. All they want to do is end the pain. I don't think they want to hurt themselves. According to a lot of literature I've been reading. Let me share something with you. After my daughter died I went on a website I don't even know how I found this website, but there were a lot of kids on their talking (like a chat room of sorts) and I just kept watching the chats these kids were talking about killing themselves. They were talking like it was an everyday conversation like it was nothing. Lots of kids I immediately unteripted and said 'what are you kids talking about" what are you doing my God are you kids serious, they told me to get off the site because it was a site for kids that didn't want to live anymore. I was floored I was a total mess. I tried talking to them but they blocked me out some way. It just goes to show you that depression, mental illness is mainly to blame for these incidents. This is why now instead of not talking to your children about suicide it has been determined that talking with them and sharing feelings and thoughts are so important. BLONDIE, I'm so sorry and I truly know how that mom is feeling right now. We don't understand but I know my baby is at peace right now and no more pain. Yes, I needed and wanted therapy and it has helped tremendously. The bible says the Lord don't put no more on you than you can bear....ooooh baby sometimes I wonder...... How much more I can take
    (((HUGS BACK)))

    Hello.

My sailor arrives in Okinawa today for his first duty station after A school. He's very excited about exploring a new part of the world. I'm pleased for him but a little nervous as well - it's so far away.

  • NavyMum

Thanks Blondie - he was hoping for an overseas assignment so it worked out well for him. He'll be there 3 years but he's considering opting for a 4th if he likes it there. He's already said he'll try and come home in 2018 for his sister's graduation but that otherwise he plans to use his leave to explore Asia.

  • tnmom50

OK GOT A SAILOR WHO DEPLOYS SOON ANY TIPS OH HOW LONG IT IS BEFORE YOU HEAR FROM THEM WHEN THEY LEAVE AND WHAT KIND OF STUFF IS ALLOWED IN A CARE PACKAGE.ADVICE PLEASE AN THANKS

  • NavyMum

tnmom50 - my sailor just arrived in Okinawa Friday - he texted me from the first layover in Japan and again when he woke up after 14 hrs of sleep (he arrived late in the evening after travelling since Wed) - he had to borrow wifi to do so - his iphone doesn't work in Japan (but apple messenger does with wifi).  He bought a Japanese mobile phone that day and has been in contact via FB chat - it's a 13 hr difference for us so I hear from him first thing in the morning before he heads to bed and then first thing in HIS morning before I head to bed.

I would guess it'll depend on how quickly he gets a phone or computer up and running or has the time to call/email. Remember the Navy will notifiy you if something goes wrong so no news is good news.
He's shore-based, not on a ship so I'll let someone else field the care package question

  • T-Lynn

    Hi

Gentle hugs to your home town Blondie. And also wishing you fun on your trip to DC. Gee- when you get weather - you get it.

Gentle hugs to you too Drew. And thanks for being there for others.

AntiM - Luck ! It will be good

Maggs - yippe, He has his foot in the door. Glad he feels good about this job.

Spring - what is Spring? The last two day sso hot - the kids turned on the air! Luckly , I and hubby in the basement -s o we can still have our windows open. To me, it was not the hot to turn on the air. So I was enjoying the fresh air and hearing the birds sing.

Welcome New Moms. Your sailors will be busy for a while. Promise they will make contact when they can. If they want to have their own cell phone - then really need to purchase one in Japan and Japan's contracts. Our phones do not work there at all!  And they will soon give you an address to mail packages to them. Use the FPO - AP boxes at the post office.

Grandson is cutting two morals at once ! I hope these are the last. He is so miseable. But he did get to see butterflies for the first time. There was an event of seeing Butterflies.  He was so good - he did not reach out to grab them.  Just pointed to them. I will be pics on soon for you to see.

I need to get - it is late. I have to up at 5:30 to watch Riker.  hugs all

  • Suzan

tnmom50 - I got an email a day after she landed in Japan. She found wifi and used her laptop. Now, when she is on land, we have a standing Skype date every Friday morning for me / Friday night for her.

When she is on the ship, there is no schedule.  They work long hours, seven days a week, and then they have to wait in a long line to use a computer (unless they have one in their work station). Sometimes they aren't allowed to communicate at all.  With that being said, the longest time I have gone without hearing from her is 5 weeks.

Regarding care boxes:  When she is on land, I tend to send her fun things... favorite treats, etc.  The last box I sent was full of every kind of Girl Scout cookie they sell - that was a hit in her shop!  When she in on the boat, I tend to send things that are more practical like toothpaste, shampoo, soap.  If she doesn't need it, someone around her will.  They have little space for fun things but I usually throw in a little fun!  In the Christmas box, I wrapped items which I later found out I wasn't supposed to do, but nothing was said to her about it - so maybe it is ok?
