One place we visited was the Burpee Museum. Riker LOVES dinosaurs. As you can see, he is so enjoying seeing these skeletons. He even told the Dinosaurs: "roar" The one pic where is peaking to look is : the stuff pet of the museum - Leroy. I believe she was a gofer turtle. She lived for a LONG time and when my son - Riker's Daddy - was a teen - he was a volunteer at the Burpee. One of his jobs was to take care of Leroy.
LOVE the pictures! wrote a book and lost it. *%#()$@$&
Daughter went to hospital at 2 and had her at 6:44am Friday April 7th. 7#5oz. 21 inches. cord wrapped around her neck, born blue, then couldn't regulate her own temperature.....Blondie Jr. had 2 tears but went all nature, well no drugs, Doctor's had to use suction to get her out when both their heart beats slowed....
They are both home now. Breastfeeding and trying to get use to everyone. It's Very scary when it's your daughter and nothing you can do. Papa said, it was like BC and deployments all over again. lol
gonna try to post a picture here. Oh yeah, Her name is Tahlia Rose.
Hi, all. I have been lurking the last couple of weeks on N4M's as I have been keeping up with the Vinson group I am a member of while they are on deployment and where they are off the coast of South Korea at this time. I have tried to catch up with everyone and everything going on but I may be a little behind, LOL.
First of all, Blondie I congratulate you on the birth of your most beautiful granddaughter. My first also had the cord wrapped around his neck. He was fine but on oxygen for a little while. We had to stay an extra day because I developed a temp and they put me on antibiotics for 24 hours and sent me home on them. Breastfeeding was out of the question because of that but he was also a very lazy nurser. My second had a knot in his umbilical cord and that explained his having the hiccups many times a day. He came out screaming, labor was only 4 hours and 15 minutes after my water broke. I am so glad everyone is doing well. I send love and blessings to the new little family.
T-Lynn, Riker sure is getting big. So glad he enjoys all the things a little boy his age should be learning and exploring. The new lady in your son's life sounds like a keeper. Not an easy thing to do but it sounds like she is doing wonderful.
For those talking about mail to Japan, back in the day, and I'm talking about mid-80's, it could take 2-3 weeks to get packages from the East Coast and regular letters about 10 days-2 weeks. I believe at that time all mail came out of San Francisco going to Asia. I'm so glad the Navy figured out how to get stuff to our sailors much faster.
Love the pictures of the Cherry Blossoms, it was always my favorite time of the year during our time in Japan. I have some great pictures I took back then and I really cherish them. I grew up in Maryland but don't recall ever going to Washington, DC to see the trees there, hahaha.
I hope all is well with everyone. I gotta get, my oldest is taking classes at a local community college and I am playing taxi driver. Have a great day and Navy Mom {{{Hugs}}}.
Congratulations Blondie. I know that baby will be well loved.
Love all the pictures.
Not much here. I had minor surgery to fix my foot last Wednesday. They only used needles to break up scar tissue. Yes, it is still issues from when I broke my toe. It is a standing joke. "All this from stubbing one toe". I go to a breast surgeon today for a lump. I am positive it is nothing, but a few N4M prayers wouldn't hurt.
Below is an Easter picture of my grandson. They went to a Japanese church (in San Diego) and had an egg hunt. He wanted his bears in his pail and nothing to do with the eggs. My son is underway for 6 weeks.
Nice to see you lurking Elaine :). And love it when you jump back into the water and share! I too remember getting those lovely pics of the cherry blossoms. My sailor leaves soon for Japan again.
Kim - did the doctor use black electric tape and paint your toe nails? You KNOW that is the only remedy that heals . toes! What a sweetie he is and so determined! He didn't want those eggs bothering his bears. Let mom get the eggs. Wishing for calm waters for your sailor's cruise.
Blondie has to be busy spoiling :). And Maggs must be chasing Angel around.
this weekend has been something. A wonderful time watching my grandson hunt eggs. Getting a few needed and have to chores done. But had two deaths. Knew that it was going to happen - but not the same weekend. both persons had cancer and good friends of the family . so I will baking a cake to take over to the families. peace.for them and their families.
Not a lot going on here. I have had some issues with my vision, but just got approval for a treatment and some testing. I hope it works out; I am having problems with every day things, oh, like posting here, and painting.
Beautiful cherry blossoms. My friend in Yokosuka just posted some lovely ones. She and her husband still teach Akido on base, and Facebook lets us keep in touch easily.
Blondie congratulations! Talk about a cutie what a Beautiful baby....
ANTI M - how are ya. I just left Harvard Medical School in Boston Mass Eye and Ear I went to see Dr Foster one of the best docs in the country I have some very serious Eye issues going on. I had steroid implants put in both eyes glaucoma and caterers, secretary of State ready to take my drivers license from me I had to pass vision test so I had to purchase some biopic lenses to drive. hope everything goes well with your eyes and I'll be praying for you. Sometimes we rake these things for granted until something happens. i'm praying everything is OK
Kim, he is a cutie! I was wondering is you had the surgery yet. glad it went well, scare tissue can be a Big Pain. Hoping all goes well, Prayers for your breast and peace of mine.
Elaine, thanks for sharing your experiences, I broke my tailbone and rip my a-hole and had to go into 1 hour surgery after my first one, my second popped my hip out of joint, my third started as a tubal.....but like I said, when it's your daughter! LOL this is why we need each other
T-Lynn, had to laugh about the electric tape.....Yes we are spoiling them all! Sadly we missed Connors Easter Egg hunt but figured we can extend his holiday when we get back. Missed Hubby's 5 generation Easter Celebration (hundreds) but liked our quiet baby Easter. Sorry for your losses, even when expected and blessings, still hurts and we miss them greatly. Hugs
AntiM, Prayers going up for you and positive vibes coming your way. Blondie III - Love it.
My goodness, Blondie, I don't know if I would have had a second if I had gone through what you did with your first. But all works out and just think if they weren't here for us to know and love. The pictures of Blondie III are just precious and I'm sure she will bring many years of joy to your family. And I love her name. Having to go back home will be the hardest thing, I am sure.
Kim, that toe of yours will be family jokes and conversation for generations to come, LOL. I know you are hoping for it to all be over and done so I am adding you to my prayer list. Your grandson sure is cute. Sometimes they just get so overwhelmed with all that is going on, he will be hunting Easter Eggs next year for sure.
Anti M, so sorry for all you are going through. Prayers for a solution and the right doctors to come your way.
This next section will be long but here is what is happening down here in North Texas, LOL. My oldest son started classes at a community college with 4 or 5 campuses in our area. He is attending a campus that is a 35-40 minute drive from our home. Monday I take him to school and come home and piddle around, finish laundry, do dishes, run errands if necessary and take a short nap if I can. I pick him up mid-afternoon. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after I drop him off I go to a quilt shop about halfway between home and the campus and sew, cut fabric and help out if needed. I have managed to sew 5 quilt tops and make a tote bag for my stepmother. Not having the distractions of being home has really helped me get a lot done and I find finishing a quilt top helps to lift my spirits and see that I am finally making progress in getting them ready for family and friends. Most of these quilts are just lap size and I hope they will get to the lady who does my quilting by the end of May so I can have them ready for Christmas gifts this year. Once school is done for the semester I will still try to get to the shop a couple of days a week. Being at home with the distractions has not been conducive to getting things done and I am determined that the quilt blocks hanging in my craft room closet will be done so I can work on getting my stash (read fabric hoard, LOL) down to a manageable level. I have projects in my pipeline that have been lurking for years and they really need to be done and out of here, hahaha. Okay, that's it for now.
Keeping all in my prayers and thoughts. Hope everyone has a great day. Navy Mom {{{Hugs}}}
Beachmomblue - once the mail is transferred to the military postal system, the USPS no longer tracks it. Is your son on shore or ship duty? I know mail to the ships sometimes takes longer. Also are you sure you have the address correct? I know when my son first got to Japan, he gave us the wrong zipcode and the mail went to Hawaii before being forwarded on to him in Japan -which took a while :)
He is on shore duty. He gave me the address so I assume is correct. Whats in the envelope is important documents, I was so hesitant to send scared that it would get lost. I just hope he gets it soon so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
Beachmomblue, I find that I worry less when I send a package rather than a letter. The packages usually reach my son on the Ronald Reagan when it's in port in about 8 days. This is from Chicago. It seems it is less likely to get lost that way. I DO track the package, and also have the tracking sent to my cell phone. I hope this helps you.
Blondie - Oh what a cutiee!!!!! Glad your Easter was precious.
Hi Eliane - glad to see you are busy with your time. Do have some me time in there. Good luck to son in college.
I agree - package seems to arrive faster for some reason. Will send positive vibes that you post soon that your sailor got his letter! hugs to you
Kim - how goes the healing of the toe?
Drew - passed the eye test - yes?
Here it is raining again - so it is that lovely cool damp feeling again. Only thing nice today - is my oldest birthday - he is 38. So got his homemade strawberry cake done and his wife is making him dinner. So there will be a little party to look forward to night.
Well got to get again - time to prepare to play with Cub Scouts. wish all a good day hugs
Hi, Everyone. My son received his letter yesterday. It took 24 days, but I'm happy he got it. Next time I will send a package. By the way my name is Judy.
Elaine I love your schedule. Being at home too much does seem to slow us down and distract us. Sounds like you found the perfect answer. Congrats on getting so much done! thinking of Christmas already, You /go Girl! I hope you get caught up get that hoarding under control. LOL
Beachmomblue, Glad to hear he got it!!! was afraid I was gonna have to get my voodoo doll out (postman) this weekend. Although it's been awhile since I've had some fun :)
T-Lynn, Hw was the Party? What was for supper?
Blondie Jr. is having some difficulty, please keep positive thoughts. My opinion is Joe needs to step up, what is he gonna do when he goes back to work full time? He didn't get re assigned to Norfolk, he no longer choose where he goes so we're waiting on the Navy to tell them. :( I option for Blondie Jr. and Blondie III to move back home here. Betty yet for us to win the lottery (which we don't play) and retire and retire so we can enjoy all our kids.
Work is crazy busy but what did I expect 2 weeks, of insurance, mail.....and month ends this weekend! I think I need (deserve) a vacation! LOL
Agree Blondie - those first days are rough. Crossing fingers toes - even eyes for things to flow in a positive way. she is adorable. She appears to have strawberry blond hair.
Hi Judy. thank you. So glad he received that letter. Now you know - send packages. Besides you can fill it with stuff and getting a package from home feels so good. Do you have a pet? If so - have the package sent from the pet. My sailor loved that.
And it is Official - as of today - I am an official Navy Pan Mom! My sailor is back in Sasebo, Japan. Now I h ave that waiting game. The call or text he arrived ok. What is the address? Go get FPO -APO boxes and forms. Start collecting stuff to send. Not cry when I get to actually talk to him. Mark the calendar when he comes home. And so on.
Plus, Here everyone appears to be getting a cold - gain. the weather here is still cold - wet and damp. Plus, last Saturday was the big field trip with cub Scouts and their parents to Galena,Ill. It was the 63rd Galena Pilgrimage. Hubby and I were on a bus with cub scouts / parents for an hour and half and then ALL day in Galena. It was just a trip from 6am to 6:17 pm. ANd the weather - the usually Galena Pilgrimage weather - cold - windy - rain. ALL of us came home wet and cold. Teh boys - it was AWESOME. It was ok to get wet - roll down hills in wet grass - eat outside in the rain and eat two helping of Culver's Frozen Custard and no one said "No". Plus, some had two cans of pop. We returned those boys so hyper.
Now I am finishing up tasks for the last two weeks of the school sessions with the Cub Scouts. Then a break. On June 5th - starts Day Camp! This summer it will be different - only 8 weeks of camps, not the 9. reason - the Park District decided to closes all sessions the week of July 4th. That's ok with me. And out boys are excited about the camp too. the theme is Bug Hunters. Funny how bugs are so loved by boys.
Well, I need to get ready for sessions today. Wish all a good week and hugs.
Hey - check in ! You know who you are !!!! Gentle hugs
Thanks Ladies, She's a sweetheart (just like her Mama) I miss them both dearly. I need to get more pictures on my computer or learn to use my phone to get on here. Blondie Jr. is so frustrated with Joe almost as much as me LOL She will ask him to take her and he always has an excuse or takes her for 30 seconds and that's it. Blondie Jr. is so tired and can't get anything done. I feel so helpless, I told her say the word and I'm on a plane. Trouble is we're trying to save vacation days for when he deploys.....UGG this is Terrible. Considering I raised Connor the first 3 years of his life, I'm not prepared for this long distance! I told her, nap when Tahlia does and don't worry about anything else. But she has to eat to keep her strength up and they have to large dogs in the house.....I think just listening and letting her vent is the best I can do right now. I did offer to bring one of the dogs home with us but they didn't like that idea. :(
Yes, T-Lynn we are hoping her hair has at least a red tint, my mother and Joe's grandmother both were red heads.
Japan again, ah well your experienced, lol
Loved your story about the BS, it's it funny how they never complain when they're getting wet and cold but oh they're dying on that bus ride home! I hope you don't get seriously sick from it. Keep your eye on those couple weeks rest.
WE went from 80 and sunny to 39, wet, cold and windy! to the point of having wind advisories issued. Old man winter is hanging on, I had to get my coat, scarf and gloves back out! Was miserable yesterday, even got a Migraine (caused by weather changes and pain from Fibro.) I took meds. and laid down, JD went and got Connor so when I woke up all was well :) Have Connor until Thur. when he goes to school at noon then get him after school on Friday for the weekend. Love those little boy hugs! but hope it warms up so we can take little boy energy outside. hahaha
hope everyone is well and hears from their Sailors
I have been so busy with typing - my brother n law - Cub Scouts school sessions ending this Friday!!!!! And HAVE to finish a beaded patch for the head BOSS! - I have honestly forgot to get on and chat.
Venting - yes - I agree with you the best thing you can do now. Almost sounds like new daddy is afraid to hold his daughter. Hopefully - fingers crossed - he will grow out of it soon. Will send positive vibes her way. Sweet Conor :). Is he in Cub Scouts? I know - another job for NaNa.
So far - knock on wood - no cold. But I feel it coming. I bet part of it is from that long wet drive back on the bus. BUT this last week of scouts - last year staff selected to do a Rain Gutter Regatta. You guess it - cub scouts using lung power to blow a small boat down a rain gutter. And Getting wet!
Guess who is carrying a plastic official Cub Scout Rain Gutter track and WATER !!!! To the sites. And its only in the upper 40's at times - but today maybe 50's. So I get wet everyday and outside in the wind. Betting on a cold this Mother's Day.
Well, I thought I had a pic of sailor to share. But I cannot find it. I will go looking, so I can share. It is a good one too. He looks happy. And that makes a Pan Mom's heart feel good.
Ok - all have a great day .
and check in !!! You KNOW who you are . Just need to see a word form you. And yes, you can just type "word". Hear you laughing.
But at least , we all could see you. Gentle hugs all
Hey T-Lynn..
Haven't been in one of the best of moods lately you know my 21-year-old daughter that passed away her birthday was may 5 last Friday..she would've been 28 this year. I guess some people celebrate I have not gotten to that point yet it's a somber day for me my psychologist tells me all the time do what I feel like doing by don't feel like celebrating I don't I know my daughter would not want me to be this way but I'm hanging in there. But what makes me happy is to see all these beautiful little babies on here Blondies got such a cutie I'm here. I got a whole bunch of packages in the mail from Japan my son in Yokosuka sent me about eight big packages that cheered me up though such a good kid. I said my boy is gone my girl is gone what am I to do now. I'm trying not to have a pity party I'm really really trying I'm trying to perk up - some days I just don't know. The Bible says the Lord don't put no more on you than you can bear. boy do I wonder sometimes.
Well T Lynn talk about cold let me tell you how my luck's been I went out and bought about $200 worth of flowers annuals put them down please tell me frost didnt hit Yep I'm in Michigan. My daughter who passed away her name was Angel and she loved flowers so I did my whole yard in honor of her name that makes me really feel good to get out and do that someone on my block nominated me for the community pride award in my community and I won. Talk about venting sounds like I'm venting and I really don't mean to but I want to thank you girls so much for listening and I wish all of you a happy Mother's Day
sending positive thoughts that you Don't get a cold! We have to learn to say No!
We've had frost AND freeze warnings out all week, had to scrape windows, cover plants then uncover them before work...so basicly when the rain stopped the cold came again, hoping to get warmer but rain back tonight....repeat, when's winter gonna end?
Oh Joe's not afraid of her, he will change her and bath her but if she's crying he's gone. even a little fuss, it's here give her a boob. And he doesn't stay home! He doesn't do well if he's woke up either....I'm thinking then what made you think you wanted a baby? He got his oral orders, they get to stay in VA but 1-2 months after his command change he will deploy. Of course he won't know where or for how long until he signs into new command. It's always been said she'd come home....but now she's worried about leaving the house for the winter....and wants me to go there. I told her wait and see, maybe it won't be for the winter, maybe a short deployment...We told them buying a house was iffy....they said they could lease it....then lease it and send my babies home! LOL So now I'm scared to go out there for Memorial Day or anything because I'll need all my vacation days later, maybe. UGG I hate this part. Lots of gorgeous pictures, hopefully will be able to share soon.
Drew, so sorry, I didn't know the date. HUGS my friend. The flowers sound Lovely, hope they didn't get frosted to bad. Your Son was trying to cheer you, such a nice boy. You're right the Bible does tell us that AND yes, sometimes it's hard to believe. You can have a pity party, but just for a day or 2 (okay?) God still has a plan for you and we ALL care about you. We are here for you anytime.
Hi, been a while... Things are not going well... so have not been posting.... I have not forgotten you, but I needed to try to regroup, and hopped things would improve. We are celebrating small stuff, and trying to deal with the big stuff quietly. Thanks for the prayers, positivist and love. I know some of you know we finished six months of treatment and, today, discovered it has not helped much.
Hey T Lynn Thanks girl I truly appreciate you gals we have to keep lifting each other up I'm 64 years old my grandkids call me Nana my two granddaughters they're in college to be doctors they tickle me they call me all the time we love you Nana angels looking down on us she don't want you to be sad. I have such a positive granddaughters. But hey y'all we need to get together and have coffee tea or something a little stronger lol
The handsome kid in the picture is that your son What a great smile handsome kid. I was going to send some pictures but again I'm not computer literate I'm using an iPad and I don't know how to transfer pictures over to the site if someone can walk me through it but glad to know you're feeling much better for some reason joy always comes in the morning doesn't it?
Hugs
My 'Pan sailor is now in San Diego. He met his wife in the Navy, she's not in anymore; they have a darling pair of twins, a boy and a girl. As I am the honorary aunt, I don't feel comfortable posting pictures.
T, Japan and motorcycles go together! My husband got his first bike there, through New Car Sales on base, and they shipped it right to the base from the manufacturer! Here is a blast from the past:
My son just received his orders and he's headed to Japan. He is thrilled - me not so much. I'm happy for him because this is where he wanted to go. But is SO far away!! He's my only. We've been very spoiled and have been able to see him much more than we thought possible since his PIR 9/9/16. He was re-rated which brought to Great Lakes and that is only 2 hours from home. We've taken full advantage and have seen him almost every weekend. This has been great, but I think will make this separation more difficult. Any advice for this nervous mom??
Pray, come on here and vent, pray some more! My sailor is my only - first 6 months were tough but when you here their stories and that he is doing good, it makes things easier. My son has been there since Aug 2015 - he's had some fun adventures in Tokyo, climbed Mt Fugi, visited nearby villages, sent me some cool trinkets, made life time friends - fills my heart with joy! I haven't been able to visit - but he's come home once. You've joined a wonderful group - we are all here if you need anything.
Monkeyflower, I suggest getting a passport even if you are not anticipating a visit. You never know when one will come in handy.
What part of Japan? We have several bases there. I was in Yokosuka for a long time, it is a marvelous opportunity. Safe, clean, friendly, and the food is fantastic.

Monkeyflower - where in Japan is he headed? My son has been in Okinawa for just over a year now. He's loving it - spent this past weekend in Tokyo and Legoland. I'm looking forward to photos!
He hasn't been home on leave yet - anticpating he'll come home next May for his sister's graduation - and we haven't made it out there. I won't lie - I miss him - but I know he's doing what he wants to do and he's enjoying and doing well.
Thanks everyone! He will be in Sasebo on the Bonhomme Richard. He's VERY excited, but that ship is scheduled to rotate out before the end of the year. So he may not see as much of Japan as he'd like. It's unlikely we will be able to visit if he's there just a short time. My husband is a teacher so that puts constraints on when we can travel. We all have passports, so if the opportunity comes up, we are set.
Yip that is my youngest with that huge smile on his face. He loves hiking/climbing/camping/ wearing kilts and being a Star Trek Klingon. And loves Harley Hogs !!!!! And no married yet. He is engaged.
Yes !!! Tell him to get his passport !!!!!! The military one is NOT enough. He might need to fly out to home or just want to visit another country - aka China like my sailor did - and he needs his pass[ort. And then come here and chat with us. this is my sailors second tour in Japan. He too is in Sasebo.
Hey all, I have had some sad news. I lost another friend yesterday. She had internal bleeding, but doc could not find out why. She held on for a while, but then what ever made her bleed - won. rightn ow starting to help out with funeral. She was a major factor in Scouting - so the scouting family is working on her memorial. I miss her.
T-Lynn - I'm so sorry for your loss. Prayers for the repose of your friend.
And I'll second the advise for the sailor to get a passport. It doesn't take too long to get but sometimes it can take a while to get the time off to submit the application.
He has a passport, so that isn't an issue. We loving cruising so he's had one since he was about 6 (it's been renewed). When he joined the Navy I told him those ships aren't like cruise ships. That got a BIG eye roll.

Drew, share a picture or 2?

Keeping all in my prayers and thoughts. Hope everyone has a great day. Navy Mom {{{Hugs}}}

Hi everyone, My son's letter still has not gotten there. I sent it on April 1. Can I go to the post office and see if they know where it can be?
Apr 20, 2017
NavyMum
Beachmomblue - once the mail is transferred to the military postal system, the USPS no longer tracks it. Is your son on shore or ship duty? I know mail to the ships sometimes takes longer. Also are you sure you have the address correct? I know when my son first got to Japan, he gave us the wrong zipcode and the mail went to Hawaii before being forwarded on to him in Japan -which took a while :)

Beachmomblue

LOL
Hugs to all

HI

HI
I made ME TIME !

Hugs to all

There are a lot of great pictures lately!

Hi,
My son just received his orders and he's headed to Japan.

HI
I miss her.
Sorry this is short - I need to split.'
Wish ll a good week hugs

T-Lynn - I'm so sorry for your loss. Prayers for the repose of your friend.
And I'll second the advise for the sailor to get a passport. It doesn't take too long to get but sometimes it can take a while to get the time off to submit the application.

He has a passport, so that isn't an issue. We loving cruising so he's had one since he was about 6 (it's been renewed). When he joined the Navy I told him those ships aren't like cruise ships. That got a BIG eye roll.
T-Lynn, does your sailor like Sasebo?
