NCali, I thought the Wasp was in the Second Fleet?

  • CindyN

Here is a story about the Wasp being redirected from their transit to Japan to help with relief efforts. http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=102309

  • maggs

This is to replace the USS Bonhomme Richard, I guess. The crew from the USS Wasp will swap with the crew form the other ship, and return the USS Bonhomme Richard a home port. I wish them Fair winds and following seas.

  • T-Lynn

    Hi All

thank you Maggs for the Pee Alert. Blondie is so right - Angel is no angel. But we love her :).

Really Kim - with all you have  going on - you just had to break your toe. Well, we all here will be wanting to see the picture of your painted toe nail and tape.

To the new moms - there was a rash of toe breaking one year. It was found that by painting the toe nails - even the broken and wrapping in electrical or duct tape - the toe healed faster.

So Kim we are waiting :).

Blondie anymore pics of the sweet little one and how is Conor?

So scary what is happening with all the bad storms - hurricanes - fires and an earthquake in Mexico too. Wonder the weather personal have not named this year Shake and Bake with wind on the side. Glad our Navy is there to help.

To any here who have family in any of these areas - positive healing energy to them.

Wish I had some gossip. None - the gossip tank is low. The only thing I have going on is taking dictation from my pet turtle Shark. She has decided its time to write a letter. So she dictates and I write.

    Wish all sweet dreams.  hugs

Thanks for the Photos Y-lynn. always make me smile.

I went to fort McHenry last night, They had the Army Band there, playing and singing. It was "Patriots Day". The tell the story of the Battle of Baltimore, reenact, using cannons from the fort, and fireworks from a barge,  while the band plays 1812 overture. They announce the battle won, they swap out the US flag and play the Star Spangled Banner. Then they have a wonderful fire work display.

Had we know it was an all day event, we would have came earlier, but they had tents set up with period army etc, this was all free to the public too.

As we had take our son to take down the lighting (he is a Lighting Tech with an event company), I asked the Park Rangers if we could hang out until he was finished, she talked to security, and they said no. We had to park outside the main gate, they would be locked, and only authorized people would get in or out. She apologized, and wished she could let us stay. I thanked her, told her I didnt want to be stuck in the fort,  sleeping in the tents. She said they were very comfortable, and I replied, Not at this time, not for me, and not with this accent. She almost peed herself laughing. :)

  • Blondie

Maggs  Thanks for the laughs!  sounds like Sunday was a Wonderful time. glad you got to enjoy it.

    T-Lynn Love the pictures!

We had a tornado go through here Labor day night @ 10:30-11:00 pm. 130 winds....4 communities were affected.(we were spared) I tried to post a video but didn't work.  We have relatives in both TX and FL trying to keep track of everyone and send relief.  My daughter is still having GI problems, now Tahlia is having blood and mucus in BM's.....that's just at home!  Work is terrible again, computers not working. Medically program not working, they're based in GA I think.  So Off line and out of contact for 2 days.  Finally got the okay to re-bill Medicare, haven't been able to since May! So now have to go back and tell computer to re-bill, not so easy I have to go into each patients file into every visit into every line item (usual 4-5 a visit).....It Sucks!  I told her it'd be this way.  UGG

Only thing going good here is the Indians winning streak!

Any one know how to post pictures from my phone ?  I'll keep trying.  Navy Mom Strong

  • Kim

Love the pictures and stories.  Join in new moms.  Next week is chemo week for me and I enjoy reading all the stories when I feel like I was hit by a truck.

Maggs, I'm sure they would love your accent.  I just started watching Outlander and think of your accent.

I hope everyone is staying safe with all the weather problems.  Glad you were spared TLynn and Blondie.

Toe Update:  Fracture is not bad.  However, it is completely dislocated 2nd toe top joint.  I need surgery.  Planned for last off-chemo week Oct. 4.

Son Update:  He is almost 1/2 way through chemo/radiation and doing great.  I realize that the worry will start when I have to drop him off at his place.  Sailor will be deployed by then and I will be a big Worry Mama.

  • Blondie

NavyMum, Glad you were safe!  Yikes

Kim, of course you need surgery!  we wouldn't expect anything else. LOL  when you do something you do it Right.  Worry away it's what we do!  I'll keep Praying here.  HUGS

  • maggs

I am not getting notifications, again!  Blondie Conner is so cute. Kim, you are going through it right now.. Hugs to you.

Angel is playing with her toys!!

    Hubby is doing well

Daughter gets married a month from now.

Sailors wife is expecting a boy in March!

    Spreading sunshine today.

Hugs to all who need them too. Looks like we may all need a collective Pan Mums hug fest.   We need our Scheduler, T-Lynn, to come up with a time, where we can all stop what we are doing, and hug someone in absentia.

  • maggs

I had to make a flying visit to Target.

  • Anti M

Not a lot going on here.  I have eyelid surgery on Wednesday.  My eyelids are beginning to block my upper vision, so insurance pays for it all.  Yay, Tricare!

Burning Man was challenging this year.  Still, I look forward to next year.

My sailor in San Diego just bought his first house.  The twins are about to start walking.  The nuke sailor is still on shore duty.  His wife lost nearly 50 pounds of baby weight, so they're happy about her health and overall happiness.

  • T-Lynn

  • Chanel

    Hello,

My Sailor is flying to Japan as I speak.  He will be going on a ship Can someone tell me how cell phones work out there and any advice on what to send him.

    Thank you,

  • kimberlya

My son has been in Japan for a little over a month.  The cell phone provider is Sofbank (sp).  My son got a new phone and his own plan.  Where is your son headed?

  • Chanel

YOKOSUKA So does that mean that Sprint the cell provider he has now won't work.  What is Sofbank (sp)

  • kimberlya

I think that Sofbank and Sprint are the same company.  I would call Sprint.  We have AT&T, which does not work there.  Which ship is your son on?

  • Chanel

He is going on the McCain.  Where is your son?  Does he like Japan?

  • kimberlya

Mine is also on the McCain.  Here is my cell.  Text me.  This site is too hard for back and forth.

    214-549-9974  My name is Kimberly

  • Chanel

Wow, I'm in work right now but I'll text you quick

    Thank you,

    Thelma

  • maggs

Buy a Cell hone there, use their phone companies. Download Skype, or any other Face to face app. It is always good to see them every once in a while. Sometimes they will be in an area where there is no reception. There will be several hours difference from you to them, they may be sleeping when you call, you may be sleeping when they call too. Your Cell company will let you suspend sailors  numbers, until he is back in the states. Get the postal address as soon as you can, get a APO/FPO flat rate box, at the post office., and start filling it with goodies they miss. I sent a box once a month, always sent two of everything, one for sailor, one to share. Some Sailors get no mail at all, it is nice for the ones that do to share their bounty with their crew mates. :)

  • Monkeyflower

Chanel - Softbank is the parent company of Sprint. My son is in Sasebo and we have Sprint. Sprint has a "japan plan" that is $5 a month added to your current bill. The plan is unlimited everything (talk, data, text). My son has been using it since he arrived in June. It's been great when he's in Japan. When his ship was out he used the pay phone on the ship or found wifi when in port.

  • Anti M

The major reason to get a Softbank phone there is if they need to make local calls in Japan.  They can then use the Softbank phone to access wifi and communicate with you via any of the online apps for texting, or voice apps similar to facetime.  While a plan on your stateside phone is great, your sailor will need to consider what they need in country too.  LOL, if they end up with a Japanese girlfriend, they'll get a local phone...

  • Chanel

Thank you all for the info.  Already ordered and received boxes waiting for address to send things I know they have limited space was wondering what others sent their Sailors

  • Blondie

just checking in, been awhile.... life is too busy!

work, Medicare decided to catch-up from the last 5 months!  worst timing ever.  I've added a 5th business to our little office another massage therapist. And teaching a Lady's Wellness Group once a week after work on Mondays.

Home, garden is still going, lots of canning.  Had to cover everything a couple nights do to frost but looks like everything survived. House is almost ready for 2 more adults a 6 month old and 2 more big dogs.  Keeping husband on track with resume and interviews, sadly most jobs are north not south.

Family. 2 weddings this weekend, one here and one in West Virginia. ex-sailor and Tahlia flies in next week.  Sailor got okay to come home for 5 weeks, test will continue when she goes back. who puts health on a 5 week delay...military!  Tahlia's appointment is next tue. blood and mucus in BM's is getting worse.  I worry they won't let her come home.  But they need to do something!  Daughter is hoping to do her internships back home here while Joe is deployed to war zone again. So much happening so many things to consider and schedule.....I fell like I'm going nuts.  But can't wait till they get home here so I can SEE and HUG them!

    Roll Call

  • Chanel

OMG Big Strong Navy Mom Hugs

  • Blondie

Thank you so much.  I'll take that Hug and send you one back. hehehe that way I get 2!

I'm use to being busy, busy but use to find time to check in every day or so but life just filled up and wow!

Our military and you ladies are always in my Prayers.

My daughter LOVED Japan.  We went to visit for 2 weeks while her ship was in dry dock.  If you get the chance GO!  It's a beautiful country(very clean)  and the people are wonderful(very friendly and helpful).

  • Chanel

    All good

  • Kim

I'm here.  Just got back from surgery on my toe.  I have a big pin sticking out of the top of my foot.

My sailor deploys this week for 8 months.  DIL is going to Japan for 4 months.  My grandson is a duel citizen with Japan/U.S. so they can do that.  This is hard on sailor to miss his son.  It is also difficult knowing his mother and baby brother are on Chemo back home.

I have chemo #5 next Monday.  My youngest finishes his radiation next Thursday and we will drive him back to Maryland for work.  He still doesn't have his licence so I will be driving down Monday to Friday to get him to work and doctors.  Maggs, I have a hotel in Leesburg close to his work, but I will try to find a way to see you.

Welcome Chanel and other new moms.  My son met and married a girl from Japan.  AntiM is right.  They will want a phone for local calls.  Besides, their plans are cheaper.  My son had a phone for local and it cost him $10.00 a month (not smart phone).  He used his computer to call us.  All carriers here will suspend his phone with no charges while away and reactivate pro-rated when they visit.  You usually have to call them every 18 months to extend it.  Don't let them charge for any of it.  Talk to a supervisor if necessary.

  • Chanel

Thank you for the info.  Prayers for you and your family.

  • Anti M

Kim, my thoughts are with you.  Hugs and healing.

Hugs for you too Blondie, always on the go, with so much to do!  Hang in there.

I had eye surgery on my eyelids, so I have to limit my online time.  I take turns with the different groups.

  • scully_the_skeptic

Kim - its so nice to hear of someone whose sailor met and married someone from Japan.  My son, too, has met someone from Japan who he is marrying.

Welcome, Chanel.  this is a really nice group and so much wonderful information.  my son and i use whatsapp to text and/or call.  i know he's also used facetime, too.  he's assigned to a cruiser in Yokosuka.

  • scully_the_skeptic

i'm praying for health and wellness, and for everyone's spirits to remain high/hopeful.

  • Kim

Scully, what base is your son at?

  • scully_the_skeptic

    Kim, yokosuka.
