DIL had her gall bladder removed Tuesday. She is still in the hospital with infection and in too much pain. I think she is better today and should be home soon. Sailor made it to Mount Rushmore and started a 103 fever the next night. They had to stay longer. He is a little better but he may have pneumonia. Not Covid.
I keep reminding myself that when I arrive at the Pearly Gates I will not regret not working enough or making enough money. I don't want to regret missing time with friends and family. You guys are the best.
Yes, thank you for the update Kim. I am hoping by now that dil is home and that means she is BETTER ! And the same for sailor. All better and back on the rode to RI. But will still send out healing energy to both. Looking forward to stories of family time being spent together. That's September - right ? So we will start the count down soon! You will need to celebrate and have a party for retirement. I see a Pink Flamingo theme.
Hey Blondie - you doing better too? didn't you have a trip ? If so - share the stories.
here it is overcast - windy - looks like rain. Tomorrow - high upper 80's to into the 90's with HIGH humidity. REALLY ?
Couldn't open the window's today and now can't tomorrow because I need to keep the humidity out and heat! Gee - I have the heat on now - then will turn on the AC.
Well, even though the weather was not what I would have liked - the kids still put out the little garden. Its a kit and you fit wood together to make a box. Fill in dirt and plant. Grandkids helped. - you now know why all of us had showers and doing the laundry. Emma had a slight problem with digging - never seen dirt fly so much. Then she decided to go down the slide. - head first. Naturally, she plowed her face into the mud. Cried a bit and then I explained - go down bottom first. Well, she did a 3 point landing and had to tell the neighborhood how well she did. Oh - forgot - before digging in th dirt - she was playing on the little scooter. She flipped it and bit through her lower lip - RIGHT through too. I have learned - that a popsicle can not only stop crying but stop the bleeding and swelling too. Wow - I am stocking up for summer.
Monday: Leo and I took his family to The Smithsonians, then Arlington. There were 25 funerals that day!
Monday Evening: 5-9:30 was a BBQ supper and Ceremony put on by the Gold Star Mothers and the Angry Skippers. They made each family a quilt, had coins made up and each family got 1 with their KIA members name rank and date on back, we lite a candle and received it and a small flag, all kinds of pins... I'm sure I'll forget something. I'll try to post pictures most are on my phone. Many speakers, their Officers, Doctor, Nurse, Lead Investigator...so many talked. we had met many of the speakers Sunday night when we arrived, they were staying in our hotel, so we had many hours to personally talk to them throughout the days, breakfast, late night chats.... they were so Available, open and giving to us. We had had 1 of them his Captain out for Sunday Brunch in April, so they knew us well. LOL
Monday evening/late night was spent with our own family viewing our quilt and coin etc. and taking pictures.
Tuesday Morning: 3 buses picked us up at hotels and took us to the Wall for the Ceremony. I'll try to post a video. Our family did not go back on the buses we stayed and visited the other Memorials.
Tuesday evening was Pizza party and talking with the speakers at our hotel. The Hotel was Fantastic, I told them I'd ordered pizza and we had 15 of us and would like to use the bar/dinning area, they let us move tables...whatever we wanted/needed. The speakers and other families seen us and joined right in after all We are one big family now.
Wednesday Morning: after more breakfast talks we all said Tearful and Many HUGS goodbyes.
Wednesday afternoon/evening: Leo and I took our van load to Gettysburg PA . We did the self guided battlefield tour. So much history there. Then drove to Hersey.
Thursday: Chocolate Town and Hersey World the afternoon Hersey PA tour.
Friday: Flight 93 National Memorial and we ended up driving the whole way home.
Saturday Morning: Laundry, Farmers Market and Grocery shopping. Saturday afternoon more laundry and mowed yard.
Sunday: Church and lazing around. Did catch up with the kids and checked in with his family to make sure everyone was home safe. Thank you cards and checking in with other "33" families on FB.
Monday worked 7am-6pm, Made tacos and had drinks on the porch.
this morning 8am doctor's appointment and now thinking about mowing again. We've mowed a total of 4 times so far and never lowered the deck!
Blondie - what a wonderful heartfelt trip. And then taking the time for extra sight seeing. My girlfriend stated she had seen teh Flight 93 memorial and her heart was in her throat the entire time. And then Hersey - the chocolate City !!! My hubby so wants to go there. But what a trip - thank you for sharing.
And not surprised you naked friends. How nice of the hotel to let you all move tables for a pizza party . And then you came right back to your normal "Busy Bee" life. Wait - did you say move? You are moving - again?
Yes we made many friends. But we did NOT get Naked! Tears running down face and legs!!! OMG can't stop laughing. Hehe spell check gets me all the time too.
No, no ones moving, we've lived here our whole lives, hubby won't even move closer to kids/grandkids :( I've been mowing?
You are correct I need a quiet vacation, maybe at the beach or TN mountains but next stop the Grandkids. Came back to messes at work, even working my day off to call Lawyers and Auto Accident Insurances.... It Never stops!
Glad I stopped in tho, had a good laugh, now back to work. And you weren't even Surprised I'd get naked with new friends!!! Bahahaha
OMG! I just snorted water through my nose reading T-Lynn’s post! I needed a laugh. Came home from work to find the fridge had died. I transferred food into the my son’s dorm fridge which still lives in my garage. Landlord said he world be here tomorrow with another one. I may decide to transfer the food to the new fridge while naked. It might be interesting….or just freak out my cats. I read posts. Working a lot, taking continuing education and planning a visit to see my 18 month old grandson…and his parents. Blessings to all of you!
Oh, gee. Well I am happy you all had a good Laugh - even one that was running down someone's leg! Now we have a new way of saying " i almost peed my pants" it is now OFFICALLY _ Tears running down my legs". thank you Miss for making it sound a bit more classy.
Sorry Blondie - I meant to say : making new friends. But now if Drams goes "naked" restocking her refrigerator to freak out eh cats. We will have a Navy Pam Mom challenge here.
Just a thought too, if we ever get a chance to all meet. Should we have t-shirts made that say : Navy Pan Moms ? It would be easy to spot each other and let's face it - the hotel would just have to ask and think of all the free bees we would get. Yes, I am thinking ahead!
Hey, as usually the Laundry Fairy is visiting - no moved in!
I live 1 hr and 22 minutes from Hershey. You all have to tell me if/when you are going1
Blondie, you took 270 north from D.C. and hung a right at Frederick, MD to take 15 north to Gettysburg. 15 north and hang a right at Harrisburg on to Hershey. My youngest lives in Frederick close to that intersection. I believe Maggs lives about 30 minutes east of that area. Gettysburg was the only Japan moms meet.
Please say a prayer for my husband. I just got home from the hospital. I took him to emergency and they are keeping him overnight. The CT Scan shows a mass in his brain with swelling. MRI will be tomorrow morning. I know the drill from my sons brain cancer.
Thanks for the prayers everyone. The MRI showed that it was a stroke and not a tumor. The neurologist came in briefly and said that she was waiting on more results (echo on heart and arteries) to find out what caused it. An hour later, the nurse said he was released to go home. What?!? Release paper said to call GP and make followup appointment with neurologist in a month. It is a small local hospital. I am calling today to get a copy of the MRI, phoning GP and seeing if we can get a 2nd opinion from a more major stroke hospital.
I do love the laughs on here. It is the best medicine when feeling stressed.
Ok fine. New call sign: " Naked here" or "Naked Flamingo" Now I have to find a new picture.
Oh Blondie - so close for a hug. Wow. And now that's an idea. Navy Pam Mom - sorry: "Naked Navy Pan Mom" meet up at Gettysburg. Oh I can just see this meet up. Especially everyone reading our T-Shirts and wondering just what branch of the Navy we are.
Glad everyone is laughing - that is the BEST medicine.
Hey, Kim I have already been sending Reiki Energy your families way. Now I will add the details. Had a feeling Monday night. Please keep us posted. Hugs
Ok Drama - its your turn. So new refrigerator make it in? Did your cats have strange expressions on their faces, because of how you were dressed or NOT? You know I have a hard time believing pets would have strange looks on their faces. They have been around us so long - they know us and would just ignore us. But Drama, we do want to know.
Granddaughter has had her first - total - toddler tantrum. I mean - screaming until she turned red - fist shaking - stomping and standing in her chair screaming "No No NO !" It lasted a full 5 minutes. When she stood up in her chair - it still being her high chair - I naturally being a Yaya - took her gentle down. Well, she in turned stepped - HARD - on my bladder! You guessed it. I have showered - doing laundry and now I am staying in my area. going to put on the TV or read something and eat the chocolate chip cookies Emma and I baked today.
Believe it or not - its in the low 60's here. Its as if Spring stopped and Summer doesn't want to come and its Autumn.
Couple questions about Japan. My son will be leaving for Sasebo soon. Do they travel alone to Japan (since he will be home on leave just prior to shipping out)?
Also, I see comments on phone options but they are not current. Anyone with recent experience? Will they have free Wi-Fi in their living quarters? Thank you for your help!
Welcome, TXnavymom. Tell us about yourself and your sailor. Japan Mom Rule Number 2: Once a Japan Mom, always a Japan mom. We don't let anyone leave. So, plan on sharing your stories with us.
He will probably fly alone. You can ask for a pass to accompany him to the gate. He will probably fly into Narita airport (Tokyo) and change planes to Fukuota airport. It is a 2 hour drive to the base. If his sponsor does not meet him he will have no problems finding the DoD bus. There is also an inexpensive train that takes him to the base. It is a small airport so he should be able to find everything.
Tell him to have Japanese yen on him. ($200.00). He should carry his uniform on the airplane. He will be able to board 1st so he can ask the attendant to hang it up.
Is your sailors orders for a ship? If so, that is his 'living quarters'. Pack light because he has storage under were he sleeps and a small locker. He will be eligible to live off ship after E4 or E5 (depends on ship). A nice gift for him can be found at navyrackpacks.com The curtains give extra storage and help him sleep during the day.
He should ask at the base about the available phone services. They like to look over any contract before he signs it anyway. Make sure you have Line, Whatsapp or Duo app on your phone for free phone calls.
My daughter-in-law grew up in Sasebo and has family there. I can ask her questions for your son.
JAPAN MOM RULE Number 1: Mom gets the first phone call to say that he made it there safe! We don't care how tired he is! Phone mom first thing!
Hello Ladies! I am new to Japan Moms. My son leaves out soon to Yokosuka. He is a Nuke. I know his ship is out right now. Not sure of many other details. I have been on the Nuke Moms sight for the past 2 years and have enjoyed hearing stories and learning so much.
Looking forward to hearing your stories and learning even more.
Welcome khryse to Japan Moms! There is saying on this group, once a "Pan Mom, always a Pan Mom". I guess it is true as some of us no longer have someone currently serving our wonderful Country. My son has been out of the Navy since 2014, yes I am old!!! LOL! I hope you read Kim's post yesterday. She is super with helpful advise and hints, as well as many others on here.
I hope your son loves Yokosuka as much as mine did, and I am sure he will adapt well.
As my name says, I live in the northeast corner of Mississippi. I am married to a wonderful man who should have many jewels in his crown, for putting up with me. We have 2 children, our son and his wife, who live here in the same area; and our daughter and her husband, who live in Phoenix. My husband retired from Caterpillar and I still work for a local attorney. Other than doing as much as I can for my family, I love yard work, and spend as much time as I can in my yard after work.
Thank you Kim! I am a first time navy mom from TX! My sailor is our second born and he is 18. I know this is going to be challenging for him as he is not the type to figure things out easily. But here we go! I believe his orders are shore duty the first year. This will be very good for him but not easy for me.
Does anyone have any input about the base in Sasebo? Living quarters (he’s just entry level-an E1)? Is there a site like this for them where they can find helpful information? I appreciate all the help! Also, where would he get yen?
TXnavymom, what is his rate (job)? How long are is orders for?
He should have a sponsor to help him with this. If not he will have a phone number for the base. He will be very busy when he 1st arrives and it will take a while to adjust to the time difference.
This was my sons first duty station, also. His ship was out when he got there and stayed in some temporary living for a month. He was kept busy and took advantage of all the free tours to get to know Japan. There is limited space on the base which is why most enlisted live on the ships. My sailor was able to get an apartment in town for his last year there.
Up date...Angel The devil Cat, had some serious medical problems, She had to go to Radio Cats.. I had her stuck at home, isolated, while her body eliminated the radioactive iodine she had injected into her. Her hyperthyroidism had made her quite ill. However, she is pulling through.
Sailor is is now in the reserves, and spends time away in VA beach. He is training for a new rate. Still miss Hubby, its been hard without him. Cancer sucks!!
My youngest daughter joined in 2007 went to Bahrain 2008-2010, went to Japan (which she LOVED) 2010-2013, was at the Pentagon 2013-2017 and got out to get married and had a baby. Wow that means this year will be 5 years out! My how the time flies!
Not daily, the days last years, the years a life time BUT now looking back it flew! Hang in there Mommas you will survive the roller coaster ride! When you get stressed or upset come here and vent we all Understand!
Why we are called Navy Pan Moms and not Japan Navy Moms. We had a fellow mom who's little nephew who could not say Japan. But he could say Pan - so we all though how quite and i believe it was Angs or blondie who started calling us "Navy Pan Moms". Its stuck.
We share many "air" hugs, stories of our sailors and families, even have days to giving a "Holiday Toast " to each other. We can't be really together but we select a day - time and a hold a glass high and say a toast of love and support for each other.
And another thing - I LOVE gossip. And after reading the past messages i can say my gossip tank is getting full . NEED more ladies.
Doing fine here. But goals on a "To Do List" well I through out the list. Granddaughter has not been able to stay at day care all the time and me needing to babysit her just stopped my list. Fingers crossed the next weeks - the day care stays open, or that her allergies do not flare up! she has had some wicked ear infections and sinus issues. I believe when she turns 4 - in April of 2023 - those tonsils and adenoids will come out. Hoping for NO ear tubes. so I redid my "To Do List".
Now I am finishing three dance shawls - possible 5 medicine bags and some needed beaded scout patches to honor fellow scouters. AND maybe PAINT that kitchen!
Today marks 8 years in this home - its our very first home we have owned. And still that Kitchen has not been painted - and its the last room too. But having Emma as a helper - no way.
Shark is doing ok. Oh to the new moms that is the pet turtle She will be 45 years old on August 11th. She is planning to write a letter and send out again to sailor. He hasn't sent her a post card and she is not happy.
So good to see Kim, Miss, Blondie and Maggs on here. I know Drama is out there - she must be practicing lines for plan again. So to all the ladies who have NOT chatted: ROLL CALL - check in - need updated gossip.
Mu sailor is doing fine - as of now - he is checking on paper work to make sure all is in line for his third tour in Japan. He is fine - trying to decide if takes the Harley over or not. Gee - such a hard decision to make.
Well chores are calling. I have to finish before I pick up the grand kids from Day Car and Day Camp.
Welcome aboard again new moms. And hugs to me fellow Pan Moms. have a good day
Oh to the new moms - I misspell alot or put words backwards at time. No worries - you will learn to decode me.
I started on this site back in 2012 and although I was never a Pan Mom I always checked in on this page 'cuz you all were so active and had so much going on lol! I do remember Angie - she posted often back then and I remember she had another baby after her son was in the Navy. It was fun seeing all the updates from everyone. And T-Lynn I always love hearing about Shark! And Blondie I remember your are known as the "energizer bunny".
I remember thinking maybe my son would end up in Japan - he actually had that on his "wish list" over VA but as luck would have it he ended up in VA lol! He's out now and he and his wife (she was also a nuke) live in Michigan. I guess I'm thankful he did end up in VA because he wouldn't have met her if he was in Japan, so everything happens for a reason!
I stick around here as one of the main admins just because ...and, well no one else wanted to do it lol!
The unfortunate thing is when someone leaves the site and chooses to delete their profile ALL of their comments are deleted too. So there is nothing on here anymore from Angie (and many others). Kind of sad because the conversations often have helpful info for new moms.....
So remember, if you choose to leave the N4M site, consider NOT deleting your profile - your posts could help another mom.
And keep on posting! I'm sure there a lot of moms that look at this site and maybe don't post but I'm sure they appreciate the conversations.
So good to hear from several of the missing Navy Pan Moms.
Maggs, thanks for the update on Angel, and I am so sorry she has been through so much. I sure hope she is better and back to herself soon. I also miss your pictures. Thinking of you, and I know you miss your husband. I too, agree with you and Blondie. Would love to see cancer completely gone.
T-Lynn, I swear you are trying to be Blondie with all of that stuff going on! Girl I read that and I had to go back and make sure I wasn't reading a Blondie post! LOL! I am sure you will get all done and it will be beautiful like all of your work is.
B'NukeMoM, so good to hear from you. I am so thankful you started this page, even if you didn't think you were a Pan Mom. It helped me so much when my son was in Japan, and got me through some tough days. And I am sure it has helped many more. I will be forever grateful to you.
Not much gossip for you T-Lynn, just hot, hot, hot, here and very dry. I am watering every morning about an hour and half before I get ready for work. Hubby is back to normal with his knees. He is doing a kitchen for a couple that lives about 45 minutes from us. He has built a beautiful set of cabinets and had pictures of what he has installed. He may be mine but I still have to brag on him. He has done an outstanding job, and he said the couple are very happy with them.
Our son is dealing with a shoulder injury. Between him and the VA, I just shake my head. He is stubborn, and they are slow. It looks like he is going to have to have surgery, but he don't want that. Well, suck it up buttercup!
Our daughter is flying home next week for a long weekend visit. I think she is very homesick, and I am so ready to see her. Her Dad is very ready for her to come home. We are probably going to celebrate his birthday while she is home. She and I were talking about it last night, plus it will give extended family a chance to see her.
That's about all I've got. Just really busy at work, and I want to take Friday off while she is home, so I am trying my best to get as much as I can done.
About us… We are a Navy family and have been since before it was officially the Navy. We are honored that our son chose the Navy for his career. I am a mom of 3. My oldest (daughter) is about to get married in October. We are very excited!! My middle child is a single mom of the most precious almost 3 year old ever! My son is our youngest and only son. My son recently left for Japan and I am waiting to hear from him. He recently graduated from the Nuke pipeline in Charleston. His rate is MMN. We live in a coastal town in South Texas! We moved here after my son went to Boot Camp a couple of years ago.
Hi Pan moms! Do any of you know if the flight to Japan (out of Chicago) can be changed to our home airport (DFW-American airlines headquarters). I saw a reply to something like this but it was a few years old and thought I’d see if anyone recently had theirs changed. Is it SATO he would contact? Sponsor? Thank you all!
Mississippi Mom - I can't take credit for starting this page - that happened way before me lol!
But I'll take credit for keeping the N4M site going when back in 2016 they were going to shut down the site because they didn't have anyone willing to admin it. I worked with the advertising agency to keep it going and alas we are still here. Not near as active as we used to be but we're making it work! ;-D
Yes, I claim the nickname energizing bunny but am willing to give it up. LOL
T-Lynn, Miss and I are calling you out. (LOL) take your own advise Which I believe you did by throwing that list out. Mine left about 5 years ago.
Miss, Not much going on?! Hahaha, Glad Hubby is back to Normal. Sorry to hear about Son's shoulder and woos, Excited to hear daughter is coming for a visit. We sure Miss them when they're gone :(
B'snuke, (we go back a long way) Thanks for the advice don't Ever Delete!
Khryse, We are a Military family also; Grandpa's, Uncles, Dad, Daughter, Nephews, BIL....all forces. We just went to DC for a 50th Ann. of Neverforgotten 34 in May. They had a very nice 3 days planned for us with official ceremonies etc. (my BIL died in Nam). We also got married in Oct. and our eldest daughter got married on the same day 28 years later. Tell us all the goings on. My ex-navy mom is also a single Mom her daughter is 5 and starting school. Hope you hear from your son soon. They keep them Very busy learning how to survive in a different country. He's well taking care of BUT us Moms worry! It's okay to cry and miss them.
TX, sorry mines been out 5 years, no advice. My ex-sailor is flying to TX this Thur.! Can't wait to see what my granddaughter has to say about it.
Well as usual, I'm at work and ran out of time. So will have to fill ya all in on my life later.
Angel The Devil cat, after recovering from her hip surgery has become mischievous. She can now catch critters. Last year her favorite pastime with bringing in her pets, Cicadas!. she loved there chirping, and would touch them, gently, with her paws, until they protested. She started losing weight, eating like she was starving, and still getting thinner. She drank constantly, and I thought I was watching her waste away. She was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism, and we began a journey towards a Radio Active Iodine treatment. She is now in recovery, and will know if it was successful in August. She has, however, found new pets to bring into the home. Chipmunks! She brings them in alive, and chases them about the house! I found on that had died. I placed the poor thing under the tree where our resident Red Shouldered Hawk likes to visit. That day, for the first time, he got his first Grub Hub carry out (hate to see good food go to waste).Since then, I keep the bird feeders full, Angel loves her window, and watches them intently. She can pretend to hunt from now on!!
So glad to see all the gossip. And Miss - weather is gossip - so thank you
Surprised not see Kim - but she had her birthday and she just might be recovering from all that celebrating.
Hubby and I celebrated our 45th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday. But we didn't go until Sunday - we were needed to babysit. That's ok - we had a cake sent to us from dil Dania - sailor's wife - and the kids were so excited to see a cake mailed! But we did go out ALL day until late yesterday - Sunday - too much celebrating . When we got home I threw up dinner. Either too much grease in the Fish and Chips or that Guinness cheese Cake had too much Guinness.
fingers crossed i can get some pictures up to share. Shark would like to see all of you too. She will be 45 years old on August 11th. And she is on major walk about. ALL over - tried to climb the stairs - the closet door and her latest thing - trying to crawl into the shower will hubby. All I heard one morning was : "Get out of her". Look to see the turtle running out of the bathroom. NO I did not get a picture!
Thanks Nuke mom for keeping us alive. And TX - at this moment I cannot help you out. But I will send positive vibes.
Hey maybe I should start that Positive List again. I would list all the things us Pam Moms needed and think about them every day. Ok - doing that . TX you are on the top of the list.
Blondie - when are you NOT at work?! the day you actually retire - we all are going to party!!! Until then - one step at a time and BREATH!
Hey - that reminds me - Kim was talking about retiring in September- any one hear anything?
hey need to split - stomach is not happy. going to lay down hugs
Kim
DIL had her gall bladder removed Tuesday. She is still in the hospital with infection and in too much pain. I think she is better today and should be home soon. Sailor made it to Mount Rushmore and started a 103 fever the next night. They had to stay longer. He is a little better but he may have pneumonia. Not Covid.
I keep reminding myself that when I arrive at the Pearly Gates I will not regret not working enough or making enough money. I don't want to regret missing time with friends and family. You guys are the best.

Happy Navy Pan Mother's Day all.

Blondie - you need a vacation from a vacation!
Again thank you for sharing. Hugs

OMG !
My boss always was texting me to PROOF READ !
Hey, as usually the Laundry Fairy is visiting - no moved in!
chat later hugs

The T-shirt should read Naked Pan Moms.

Hi
I'm not going to live this down, am I?
Ladies - enjoy your evening.. hugs

Jul 12, 2022
Kim

Sorry, but have to run, I am work!

Sailor is is now in the reserves, and spends time away in VA beach. He is training for a new rate. Still miss Hubby, its been hard without him. Cancer sucks!!

Hi
Welcome Aboard New Pan Moms !!!!

You ladies are the best!

I hope all of you are well and staying cool!

Not near as active as we used to be but we're making it work! ;-D

Hi All !!!!
