The interviews for TS started about a week before he PIR.  I heard that Angie's son got his clearance last week and our sons graduated the same time.  My son hasn't heard anything.  From what I hear you can be waiting for class 6 mos.  My son has volunteered for a couple of things already and had alot of fun.  I would definantly take the shuttle to PIR they drop you off right next to the graduation and pick you up there.  He was like all sailors just getting out of BC wanted a shower, new watch, phone, hang out at the mall, went to a movie.  He was very appreciative that we came all the way from CA for him.  It was kind of funny didn't really want to make choices.  He said after 2 mos. of being told what to do he had a hard time of making decisions. LOL

  • navymom3

My son's TS is still being worked on also. They called me on friday.  My son wanted pretty much the same thing after PIR. A shower by himself, boxer briefs, a movie and we stopped at a guitar shop so he could play guitar for about an hour. Mine wanted sushi so we found an all you can eat one that the sushi rode around on little boats. It was kinda cool.

    Have a safe trip Craig!

  • mumziepooh

Hey - anybody know how the wait times for CTR are going?  My son just arrived on Saturday to Corry.
  • lidsterzoo

Good morning everyone :) My son arrived in P'cola Saturday evening. He will be doing CTT. It's been really nice being able to text my son whenever and not have to wait...and wait....AND wait for that phone call and only last 30 secs lol. One thing I am curious about is, while they are doing A school, is there any visiting time for families? Meaning, can we plan a trip this summer while they are in school and be to visit or would we have to wait until A school is over with?
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Good Morning everyone Hope we all had a great weekend! I think (and I hate to say this too loudly) but I think Spring may be here in Upstate New York. Its going to be close to 75 here today!! and Im calling the boat storage folks and telling them to launch my boat the last weekend in April! Talked with my son several times this weekend, he bought a kindle so was having fun reading a new book. He had chinese food one evening and he went on a run both days Seems quite happy which makes me happy Hoping everyone has a great Monday!
  • navymom3

mumzie- my son is CTM and been there 3 weeks and no class. Some have waited up to 6 months we have heard.

Lidsterzoo- Yes you can visit. Just want to make sure it is not there duty weekend and wait until they are at least phase 2. Phase 3 would be better as then they can check out on friday and not be back until sunday  night.

  • idahojeep

Mumzie, both my sons are CTR and they arrived at Corry Jan 8th.  They did not class up until the end of Feb.  Their grad date is scheduled for May 27th.
  • glassdog

We are thinking of heading for P'cola at the end of May, by that time our son should be in Phase 3.  So hope we will be able to spend some time with him.  He is at Corry and has been told for several weeks that next Friday he will class up, and that gets pushed to the next Friday each week!  So he is just hanging loose, cleaning the gym, and doing what ever else they indicate for him to do.  On his own time he is watching movies, bowling, and getting "cabin fever"! lol  He will be very glad to get into Phase 2 this next week!  Does anyone else have a sailor at Corry?
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Glassdog My son is at Corry and on phase 1, waiting for phase 2 Yes I can hear the cabin fever in his voice when he calls. Im also thinking of a visit the end of May Does anyone know if I went Memorial Day weekend (and if he is on Phase III at that time) would he get more than Sat and Sun off base?
  • navymom3

I was going to go that weekend also but my son will have duty that weekend. So I am going the following weekend. It just happens to be mothers day weekend I just found out.
  • sunshine73

My son is also at Corry. His PIR was 3/4 and he just moved to Phase II last Friday. he is also CTR.
  • glassdog

My son is also CTR and is moving into Phase 2 this week I think.  I sent down his PS3 this last weekend!  Will be glad when they start classing up, and he will be glad when the air conditioning gets turned on.  It was to be 4/1 but when I last talked to him about it they were still waiting.
  • sunshine73

My son is ready for AC too.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

I think they picked the wrong season to go to BC....Great Lakes in the middle of winter and now the heat of summer in Floirda    I keep telling my son he should of done it the other way around!

  • mumziepooh

Ha - my son is so happy for the heat - he LOVES it hot - such a Texan!  He ordered his Kindle last night and we have a laptop stick coming to him so he will have internet - he is looking forward to that.  He set up a running schedule and started that last night.  I think he is getting into a routine.  It really threw him to have freedom to make choices!
  • glassdog

My son must be getting used to the humidity!  He said it wasn't so damp there today!lol.

He also bought a scraper to scrape out the freezer as the humidity keeps building up the ice every week!  I have never defrosted the freezer I have in Colorado as it is so arid!

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

glassdog  how long does Phase II last   I was surprised that Phase I lasted 28 days
  • camenae

Angie, each phase lasted 28 days for my husband.
  • Craig

    Hey all,

I'm at the Navy Lodge in Pensacola.  Tomorrow is picture day.  I want to take alot of pictures of NAATC since I don't have any of that base for the CTT and CTM's I help on my website.  Tomorrow we (my daughter and I) will stay at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville hotel on Pensacola beach.  Cost $220 per night, but what the hell, you got to have fun every once in a while....

Only here for 2 days, so it should be fun....

  • Craig

glassdog - The AC is now on in the barracks at Corry.  I went into my nephew's room and it was cold....(and messy)....
  • mumziepooh

Hey Craig - My son LOVED the coin and thinks the card reader is going to be GREAT!  Thanks for the ideas!
  • himmiemom

I am reading that they have turned on the AC at Corry?  My son said it is sooooo humid in his room that the dehumidifier is constantly running.  He did mention that the building for the Navy at Corry is a old building and he was wondering if there was AC in it.
  • idahojeep

Ooh Craig what fun!  I am sure my sons are glad the AC is on.  That's funny about the messy room.  When we skype with them I have them pan the computer around the room so I can see what it looks like.  Messy!!!
  • cinder

Craig, My son was happy to get the card reader too.  Let me know how you like Jimm Buffets Hotel planning on staying there when we go visit.  Do you know what happens during Christmas time because my son thinks he won't get any time off.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

@Cinder  when are you planning to visit?   Im trying to figure that out now

@himmiemom   When I talked with my son last nite, they said they turned on the AC yesterday

He also said its been rumored that he may class up on Monday   I havent quite decided if I like that or not   I guess Im being selfish and wanting to delay him being stateside as long as possible   Its just safer for a mom to have her son in Florida

  • glassdog

My son also said they might class up on Monday.  Hope so! Thanks for letting me know about the A/C.  I had to laugh as my son said that they had a temporary roomie and he was very messy.  So am guessing he is keeping things up so the inspections are easier.  However, having said that, I never saw the walls and floor to his room from age 12-26!  So at least the Navy may have taught him something!lol
  • cinder

Angie, Not sure maybe this summer or might wait until Christmas.
  • navymom3

I am going to visit the weekend of May 6th. Just got the hotel booked and staying at the Navy Lodge. My son sounded excited for us to visit.

Mine also complained about the bathroom when they got there. Thought they had some very messy roommates on the other side of the bathroom. Come to find out there was no one in the other room and the previous tenants had left the bathroom a big mess. So him and his roomy had to clean it. The funny thing is couldn't get him to clean his bathroom at home either. LOL

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Craig...so jealous that you are at Navy Lodge on NAS! I just loved the 6 days I spent there!

Sailor is doing well in CTT C school. He is trying hard to keep grades up. He is also hoping for orders to San Diego.  He joined a softball team on base who will compete against Marines, Air Force, Army, CTR's, etc. Sounds excited.  Glad he's keeping busy!

  • Craig

rory - What a surprise we had this morning.  We had no idea the Blue Angels practiced on Wedsdays and Thursdays.  So at 0800 those planes started up, and the Navy Lodge must be really close to the runway because those planes sounded so close. We usually sleep until 10am, but not today.  It really reminded me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny"....

Anyways, you should see this "Margaritaville" hotel.  Wow, is it nice.  You walk in, and the view is all windows of the ocean.  Our room is on the 6th floor facing the ocean.  So tonight the balcony door stays open to the waves splashing...

The only problem is they play Jummy Buffet songs 24x7 in the lobby....

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning Craig!  As a huge Buffet fan, Im going to have to check out Margaritaville Hotel when I visit my son
  • idahojeep

I am so jealous of all of you getting to go to P'Cola.  I wish I could see my boys there.  Just have to be patient another couple of months til they come home.
  • mumziepooh

hey Craig - check out the color guard at Correy this week!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Its official  my son starts class on Monday in Bravo company - I think that is what he said...afternoon classes   projected graduation date is end of July  He is very excited to start classes!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Mumzie  My son is also on the color guard this week at Correy  I bet they know each other   I sent you a private message
  • mumziepooh

Oh Angie - He definitely knows my son, then.  He is the one barking out the orders!  LOL.  He was horse last night!  I hope he classes up, too.  Still in indoc.
  • glassdog

My son is in the Alpha class starting Monday!  He has stated the graduation date is July 29.  So now the question is do we go ahead and take his car in May like we planned or do we wait for graduation.  Can't do both and I am leaning towards graduation even though I know he wants his car.

Does anyone know how long they are waiting at Corry once they graduate to be sent to their new assignments?  If he is going to be there for several months after he graduates we will take the car at graduation.

Craig thanks for the smile this morning!  Enjoy the weather there as the weather is rather crisp this morning in your home town!

  • himmiemom

Yes the AC is on according to my son and he said it is soooo much better!!

Had several tests last week and didn't score as well as he wanted, but he was a straight A student in High School and isn't used to getting anything below a 98%.  He said what they are learning right now is hardware and to him it is real tough.  He said he will feel much better once they get out of that and into all the number things.

He mentioned that his roomate didn't come back to the base last weekend.  He is in Phase 2 which is the same as my son.  Don't they have to be back at a certain time every night during Phase 2?

  • cinder

I went to a Buffet concert in San Diego the best part is the party before the concert everyone brings their RV's and blenders.  People have sand kiddy pools, etc.  it is unbelievable.

  • Craig

Here are some pictures of the barrack rooms at Corry (ie not Correy)...

  • Craig

    and more pics...

    3 to a room, 3 racks, 3 wall lockers, 3 computer desk...

  • cinder

Have to laugh at the computer and x box 360.  Some things never change.
  • Craig

And here is how the normal room floors are laid out...  This is for non-modified rooms (3702,3704, 3707, 3708, 3709, 3710).  The blue is the bathrooms that are connected...  One bathroom per room.

  • idahojeep

Do any of your sailors pay for the internet in their room?  Mine took over from their roommate when he left and they say it is horribly slow.  Like not much faster than dial-up slow.  They are sharing the $40/mo. bill.  To me that is very expensive for internet that is slower than my Droid X.  They do say that the speed in the IT barracks is much faster.

  • idahojeep

Mine are in the bldg on the end closest to the gate.
  • navymom3

Idahojeep- My son went and got a verizon wireless card. It was kind of slow but found they needed to adjust the tower. It cost him a couple bucks more but he said he could have internet anywhere then. He said the internet with the modem in the rooms is really slow.
  • idahojeep

Thanks navymom.  I know my kids are cheap and won't want to each pay for an air card when they are sharing the single bill now.  My verizon air card was $60 a month when I had it.

  • mumziepooh

My son has a TMobile aircard and it isn't picking up any signal.  He is kind of frustrated with that.  Hopefully he can call them tomorrow and they can help him find a tower from his room.
  • glassdog

I will try to find out what my son got as he seems satisfied with it.

Craig thanks for letting us see what a Corry Station room looks like.  I had been wondering what the rooms actually looked like.

My son was very happy to phase up and be able to go places he couldn't before, however they must go with at least one other person when they leave the base.  Not allowed to go alone, so now he is waiting for the others to get their chits filled out so they hit phase 2.  Guess they don't have cabin fever like he does!
