At least some of the female quarters are a little different. Two to a room, two rooms per head and the desks are somehow built into the beds.

My daughter had her verizon cell from here. She said the coverage was bordeline terrible. She went to AT&T and says it's much better but I don't know if they have air cards.

On a side note, for those of you with daughters at Corry, Tell them not to get there hair dyed at the NEX. I have no idea what possesd her to do it but she's mighty unhappy right now.

  • idahojeep

Thanks all for the input.  I think they are going to ride out what they have right now and wait until their duty station to see if it is any better.  Jim C I think the females are on different floors/levels in my sons' building.
  • Craig

JimC - Some of the barracks have been modified.  3703, 3715,2716, 3717 are really nice now, and have entrances on both sides.  I have pictures of those too... Hopefully she's not is 1082 or 1084, those were condemed when I was there in 1978 and I can't beleive they are still using them.  I know 1084 is a WAVES cage.  Send me a message of the barracks your daughter is in, and I can tell which pictures to post...

Idaho - Send me a message of the barracks your kid is in too, the pictures I took were inside 3710, second deck.  Just curious is he we in my old room which was 3710 22C.

The sailors line up to march in front of compound 1 which is next to the galley

, and they will march until they get to the compound they are going...

Craig..it is something when those Blue Angels fire up! I loved it.  I'm hoping to get back to P'cola Bch in July as they do the show over the ocean the week of my birthday! Keeping my figures crossed! I might have to get on line and look at Margaritaville!
  • Craig

Rorys - Why get online, when you can see these pictures?

Here is a picture as you enter the hotel.  The entire wall is windows of the ocean...

Here is a picture of the back of the hotel.  Our room was the 6th floor (total of 7 floors), and our room was the 3rd from the left.  You can see my jeans that I put on the railing so we knew what room we had...

Here is a picture looking out our room.  The door stayed open all night so we could hear the ocean...

    The beach sign...

Lastly, this was taken at 4pm, it was really warm out yet no one was on the beach.  God knows why it was empty... It was awesome being so quite...

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

When I write my son I write PMB #17xx   is that a suite #  (I just put those xx's there for safety)   Does that mean he's on the first floor of a building?  Just curious
  • cinder

I want to stay there how beautiful.  How long did it take you to get to Corry from the hotel?
  • Craig

Angie - I've never seen a barracks at Corry with the 1700's, they are either 1082, 1084, 3702 thru 3717.  I bet that's his post office box.

cinder - The Margaritaville is about 15 minutes away.  You must cross a bridge and pay a $1 toll.  But the toll is only one way.  Beleive me, the hotel is worth it, even if its just one night.  Make sure you get a room facing the ocean. The other side faces the street and is just not worth it....

  • sunshine73

Thanks for sharing those great pictures, Craig. We are going next weekend. I can't wait to see my sailor. He is only in phase II, so does that mean he will have to get a buddy to come with him when we pick him up? We are staying in Perdido Key. We found a 2 bedroom condo for about what a regular hotel room would be. My parents are coming so we needed a place large enough to hang out. If the condo is good, I'll share info with anyone that needs it.
  • navymom3

I was told when they are in phase 2 you can check them out and be there buddy. But they have to come back to base and sleep each night.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Ive decided to go the first weekend in June  My son will be on phase 3 then   Flights into new orleans are less than into pensacola and I have good friends in NO so I will fly in early and out a day later  and then drive the rental to Pensacola to visit my son for that weekend

Thanks Craig  that was his po box  I asked him tonite when he called.   he is in a three thousand building

My son says he will be on phase 2 starting next weekend   He's looking forward to having a beer..who can blame him!

  • cinder

My son is lucky that he is at NAS he phased up within 2 weeks and has been enjoying the beach and the unenlisted club where they have 5 dollar pitchers of beer. LOL
  • Craig

cinder - What the heck is an unenlisted club?  Since he is enlisted, I guess unenlisted means he's at the officers club or a civilian club...~ha...

God help him if he's at Evelyn's Grunge Bar  (Home of the Grunge Burger) !!!

  • mumziepooh

Fraz - my son called and said that there were a couple of transformers that blew up over near some classrooms.
  • cinder

Craig, Maybe it's called the enlisted club LOL.  He said they have movies all the time and video games lots of fun at NAS.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Yep I heard all about the fire there   Two transformers blew up  My son was on watch when it happened and was running all over the place doing whatever it is you do when you are on watch and the transformers blow up!   Said it happened at about 8:30 Saturday nite and by the time his watch was over - midnite everything was back to order   No one got hurt but all power was out for a few hours  The generators didnt kick on and the flashlights didnt work...no that I found real surprising  You would think with all the inspections they do they would inspect the flashlights

  • glassdog

My son called and said it had happened 3 nights in a row because squirrels kept getting into the transformers!  I said poor squirrels and he was very unsympathetic!

He said they sat outside as the moon at least gave them a little light! lol!

  • Craig

glassdog - I aways thought "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"  was cool.  But having the squirrels "nuts roasting on an open fire" seems a little cooler.   I hope his nuts didn't get too roasted  ~ha...

  • Wendi, CTR mom

I haven' been on in a while. My daughter is graduating from Corry on the 29th, then comes home for about 3 weeks. After that she will be in Hawaii for the next 3 years. She will be in Kunia Camp
  • navymom3

Wendy- congrats on your daughter graduating from A school and getting stationed in Hawaii. I lived there for 3 years and loved it. If she is not living on base and need to know where to look for a place let me know. As there are areas she would not like to live in.
  • Wendi, CTR mom

I think she said she has to live on base until she is E4
  • navymom3

Wendy- that is a good thing then. Again congrats!
  • Craig

Wendi - She'll be working in the tunnels...  Woo-hoo.  Kunia is cool.  She should look for a place in Waikele, it's close and nice.  She'll have no problem moving off base, that barracks are so full that E2 are allowed to move off...

Here is a picture of where she'll be working...

  • Wendi, CTR mom

Thanks for the photo. I just sent it to my daughter
  • Craig

Wendi - It's funny because everytime I look at the Kunia picure it just cracks me up.  If you belong to the base security force your duty is soooo much fun.  The reason? The area above the building is now the locals "Lovers Lane".  Since that area is considered part of the base, the base security is always sneaking up on them just like Joey Greco does on the t.v. show Cheaters....  I actually had a business trip to Kunia and man, the stories these sailors told me were really funny.  (as Paul Harvey said, now you know the rest of the story) ~ha

  • glassdog

Craig love the squirrel cartoon!  They needed the "roasting" done in Great Lakes, not Corry!
  • idahojeep

My sons did their dreamsheet and I am kinda not happy with one's first choice.  Can we discuss these here or is that a no no?

  • idahojeep

One put Hawaii in the first two slots - Pearl and the other one may be Kunia and then east coast US.  But the other son put Misawa Japan as his first choice.  The others are west coast US.  He has wanted Japan since he joined and Misawa is pretty far from reactors but as a mom I am worried.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Just wondering what you say when someone asks you what your sailor does.  When I talked to my son today, he told me is instructor said we should never say they are a ct  How concerned should we be?  Heck even being part of this group which is not private could be a risk
  • Craig

Angie - Never saying you're a CT is totally an old wifes tales.  It's almost like the story about shooting and killing all the CT's if your ship is taken over so the Navy can protect classifed information.  Heck, standing the "Mail Bouy watch" is another good one...

If the instuctor tells your son that story again, have him comment back that since you can't say your a CT, then why are we able to wear Dress Blues off base since the CT "quill and lightning bolt" rating badge would be showing along with our name tags.  Yea, as if it's hard to tell the rating.

Man, because of that "quill and lightning bolt", I should tell you what the other ratings call us CT's, but I'm having to bite my tongue right now...

I totally agree with clockard. The duty station are listed everywhere.  Heck, I even posted them here a bunch of times...  Remember, so many people try to play more into the OPSEC stuff than is needed.  Yea, it's better to error on the side of caution, but sometimes we kind of over do it.  Don't get caught up in it.

  • idahojeep

    Dreamsheet comments anyone?
  • idahojeep

thanks clockard.  I looked up the NIOC Misawa website and lots of good info there.
  • Craig

Totally agreed Susan.  Its really wild on the PIR groups on N4M.  I think most people just want to jump on the band wagon.  OPSEC is way more involved.

If you ever had noticed, the only place I've ever found to be blocked by Google Earth was the top of the White House.  Everything else is visible.

Now onto more cool things...How did you have your style and font size change?  What button do you push to do that?

  • Craig

clockard - I actually posted that list of duty stations in these threads somewhere.  Unlike the CTN section where it was post easily in the discussion area, I was lazy and didn't do it.  I need to find that link and post it, but I'm lazy now..~ha...
  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

Talking about being told not to cay they are CT. My son told me at school they were told to say they were cooks or plumbers, saves answering alot of questions. I told my son, considering you cannot boil  water or know anything about plumbing , I am sure people would soon find out you are lying LOL! Now he does not even wear Navy uniforms so no ones really knows he's in the Navy! We had to go buy him a bunch of new clothes!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Thank you Clockard and Craig   Your posts made a lot of sense to me and made me feel better.  Im proud of what my son does and Im cautious to never mention his name on public boards.  But geez  he made me feel bad because I talked with people Ive worked with that he is a CTR

@momoffour - my son wanted me to say he was something else also...damage control or operations..

  • mumziepooh

When people ask me what my son does, I just tell them he is doing some intelligence thing and that it is a perfect job for him. He never told me a THING before he went in the Navy and he doesn't tell me a THING now. But I suppose I should change my picture of him on my page......I know better but I was so proud of him at graduation. Ah well.
  • Craig

Angie - I posted above in the discussion area what all the CT do.  It's call "Everything you wanted to know about CT's but are afraid to ask"...  It's all unclassified, general knowledge stuff....

All - Since I was a CTM, I would tell my close friends that I was an Electonic Technician (ET) except with a top-secret clearance.

For those that really didn't know me, I would say I was a Porn star because I get screwed everyday by the Navy... That usually catches them off guard...

  • cinder

OMG Craig you make me laugh.  I just want to know what do all the other rates call CTT's?
  • Leslie1200

Hi All, my son is a DEPPER right now, but going to Monterey to learn Arabic or Mandarin fater BC- his recruiter told him he was on his way straight to Spook City, so I guess this is the place for me to learn more!

    Cheers,

    Leslie

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

For Easter I sent my son a little care package.  He loves good coffee, so I sent him some and a french press he can use in his room...but with a easter twist   I filled it with Jelly Beans....well as fate would have it, he opened it upside down and jelly beans everywhere!!  He called to tell me what happened, to thank me and to say.."gee mom can't talk long, I have a lot to do now before inspection"    I couldn't stop laughing!

  • Craig

Leslie -  Arabic and Farsi are the two languages that are really hot (100% advancement)...  Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and Russian are not that hot.  If you notice this is the last quotas that was put out....

    http://www.navytimes.com/projects/careers/navy/petty-officer-quotas...

Here is the meaning of the numbers:

    CS (1) = Subs
    CS (2) = All others
    CTI (1) = Arabic
    CTI (2) = Persian/Farsi
    CTI (3) = Chinese
    CTI (4) = Korean
    CTI (5) = Spanish
    CTI (6) = Russian
    EMN (1) = Nuclear (subs)
    EMN (2) = Nuclear (surface)
    ETN (1) = Nuclear (subs)
    ETN (2) = Nuclear (surface)
    FC (1) = Non-Aegis
    FC (2) = Aegis
    MMN (1) = Nuclear (subs)
    MMN (2) = Nuclear (surface)
    SK (1) = Subs
    SK (2) = All others
    YN (1) = Subs
    YN (2) = All others

  • Craig

Angie - You crack me up with saying "Jelly Belly's".  The reason is this:

During graduation weekend from GL for my nephew, we went to the Jelly Belly factory. I ended up purchasing what they call "Belly Flops" which are the defect Jelly Belly's that didn't pass quality control. I started munching on those and about half way back to the hotel my stomach started twisting & turning, so we stopped at a McDonald's and I had to take a McCrap....

So fast forward. I was sitting there eating Jelly Belly's again about a week later and my stomach does the same thing. I started to read the package to see what would cause this, and guess what? Read this..... Wow...

  • Leslie1200

Thanks Dee and Clokard and Craig- I'll keep his language on the DL! Do y'all think he'll get to choose, or will they choose for him?

    -Leslie

  • Craig

Leslie - The cti group would have that answer.  You need to join that one also since all they deal with is CTI's.   http://www.navyformoms.com/group/cti

Just like the CTN group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctn all they deal with is CTN's.  So they are the guru's when it comes to that specific rating.

In the Navy, you go anywhere and everywhere to find the answers you need...  Those two groups know their sh*t...  and they have fun people on them....

  • KC'smom

Just joined N4M. My son will be going to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey Bay.  Am I in the right group??  I'm not sure what all the initials mean, and of course I can't ask my son b/c he's in boot camp and can't call me.
  • Craig

Casey - Welcome, we were waiting for you..~ha

We are all different breed of CT's in this group.  We talk about all types of stuff, and sometimes act a little crazy...  however, for specific CTI (the language sailors) stuff you need to join this group  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/cti  They are the guru's on specific CTI stuff.  Between this group and the CTI group, you will learn alot...Guaranteed!

Leslie - It depends on what his scores (and the needs of the Navy) were on what level of language he will qualify for...

  • Leslie1200

Right Craig thanks. He did qualify for any language and I am getting a good feel for which they'll give him! PS Why is that "Navyspeak" feature to the right so totally useless? It told me what CTI stood for but not CT or CTN or CTR! :)
  • mumziepooh

YEA!  Son is classing up in CTR on Monday - so he thinks!  I am not sure how he knows since he is never really a font of information.  Lately, when I ask questions, he will say, "Mom, if you can know something, I will tell you..."  Harumph - so what's new?  LOL!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Mumzie  really good news   That was quick!   My son's first week of classes went well.  He got a great score on his first test and seems happy with his instructor.  This weekend was the start of Phase II and it sounds like he had a pretty good time at the Crow's Nest last nite   He said he went out with a bunch of spooks and said mustering was a sight to behold
