btw: I know most of you don't have deppers anymore, but I will say some of the never "hatched" in boot camp, so in "A" school they may hear that "popping" sound again. It's not an IED....

My son has told me that his graduation is on 6/22/12 and he also had to move because of black mold. Went from a 3 person to a 2 person room. I hope he will skype us today because I'm not working today, but I'm busy as usual. He is CTM.

Kriss- Ismiles son is in the same graduating class. They may be in class together unless 1 is in morning and 1 in afternoon class. Are you able to go to graduation? If not maybe she can take pics for you as she is going.

Kriss - what barracks had the mold? I've lived in 1/2 of them (3702, 3704, 3705, 3709, 3710) and just curious.

sammy- as its sounds still very high fail rate for CTN's...yesterdays update showed 16 out of the 18 failed miserably and are assigned mandatory 2hr extra per day study time...frustrating part was that many know the material, however being graded by computer, no missing a comma... back to the dot your i's and place your periods : )

robin - CTN's have the official one, and one that a good friend at my work made. I actually posted them on clockard's "CTN" group. But I'll post them here so you don't have to look them up:
btw: I actually like the one my friend made better. I hate official stuff.

Craig, not one of the barracks you were in. My son doesn't want me to list the number. My son is a CTM and he says he is 1st in his class. He goes to the morning class. I plan on going to the graduation. My other commitments that weekend and now in the trash. My family comes first.

My son's dream sheet has overseas first, stateside second and sea duty last. He says if he gets sea duty then he has to go to C school. I need to get some passports so we can go visit overseas (cool).

Kriss my son went to Japan and he had c school there in Pcola. He didn't know he had c school until a couple days before graduation. But others in his class got papers orders with no c school long before him. Mine is also CTM. And he loves Japan.

I don't know if it's the same for a sailor assiged to a distroyer for deployment, but a sailor who is a regular crew member must pass quals on all the systems of that particular ship. They have to be able to step in and do any job in case of ......
Anyone else have more?

I believe that is right Reidsma. I know when mine was out he did watch for several rates so they could get some sleep. Since he wasn't as busy as them. But they do have to get qualified on many things just in case. And I am sure it depends on where they are on the ship. my son said the destroyers aren't that big. Big for us but not big compared to a carrier.

Oh how we wanted to see a carrier when we were in San Diego. None were in port. We've been all over the Stockdale, and seemed big to me! What awesome equipment. All the sailors are so thoughtful and eager to show you what they do. I'm so proud to be a military family!! My son just passed his review to be OOD; tho his job is a sonar tech.

Reid'sMa- While I was in San Diego, just a few weekends ago, my sailor said carriers can not come into port because they can not go under the Coronado Bridge- they are just that big. When I flew out, I spotted one out beyond all the islands and land... (I am too new to the area to know what I am looking at still)- but it was gigantic even from way up in the airplane as I flew out.

calliecl - Your son is probably working his butt off doing the ESWS qualifications. It is extremely hard and a total pain in the @ss. You have to know each and every position on the ship. It doesn't mean you know the position totally, but it means you are more easily trained that someone that isn't ESWS trained. They want everyone to be able to "back-fill" each sailors position. This really came to light when the USS Stark was hit by an Iraqi missile.
Here is the book he need to complete, if he's on a Arleign Burke class destroyer.

Right, we saw no carriers even in the shipyards when we were in SD in February. Sailor son took us to every Navy base on the bay to find one. (Also went to MCRD where his bro trained 20 yrs. ago) We did visit the Midway for a glimps of a real carrier. Nice tour in the rain! My son is also working on ESWS and hopes to get it before he leaves for CT school.

Just said goodbye to my daughter as she heads to the next chapter in Norfolk. Her leave was was cut short to only 5 days at the last minute. At least she got to pack in some visits with friends and a day of sailing in San Diego. Looking forward to seeing her sooner than later :(

It all depends on what the orders say. She's not deploying. She's in a pre-commissioning unit (ship's not finished yet). Lots of qualifications, classes, etc. We will just roll with it :)

Robin. Happy Birthday to your daughter. I totally understand. I went through the same thing in March. I actually had a cake made "for" my daughter and my coworkers and I ate it. You can make it fun by celebrating on your end too. Thanks God for cell phones, email, skype, etc. :)
P.S. If she's looking for real good, true Mexican food, tell her to find Taqueria Olgy's (or something to that effect). It is truly, legit Mexican food. Trust me, I know. Most places around there aren't, i.e. if you've had real mexican food, Vallartas (chain restaurant out that way) is not gonna cut it for you. Again..Happy Birthday to you girl!!

Okay…now it’s my turn to vent. My daughter arrived at Norfolk last week. She got all moved in to the BEQ and she had a roommate but the girl wasn’t there because she was on leave getting married. My daughter noticed that the room was well kept and neat so she assumed she was getting a normal, responsible person for a roommate. WRONG. She finally met her. I guess this chick arrived at 11:00 pm last night, saw that she had a roommate and was pissed. Apparently she’s not supposed to have a roommate because she has insomnia. So she proceeded to unpack all her crap around midnight and do it very loudly without any consideration for someone else who was sleeping. My daughter said this broad is the most self-centered person she’s ever met.
Whoever raised this child needs to be spanked. If my daughter ever acted like this I’d be embarrassed for myself. Someone needs to teach this girl to get a grip and that life doesn’t revolve around her. She sounds like such a dick!
Okay. Thanks for hearing me out. I’m bummed for my kid but I know I can’t fix it for her. She’ll just have to figure it out and deal with it until the girl either gets her act together or moves out. I hate that my tax dollars are paying for shi**y attitudes.

Question for you venteran folks; How long does it usually take for a CTR to class up?
Hope everyone has a great day!

My son has been at the other training facility in Pensacola for CTM training since March 11th. His class is supposed to begin May 21st. In the meantime he has been given a series of office jobs and work duties. I hope his class DOES begin May 21st. He is ready to get started.

May 9, 2012
navymom3
harpistmom AT is aviation technician. They work on the electronics part of the plane. My oldest is an AT. My middle son however is CTM like your son. He will first have the take the ATT class which is a beginning electronics class. Then he will move to Corry and take the CTM class. Mine got C school and was in Pcola for a total of 9 months. Just have him enjoy his time and stay out of trouble. If he has a chance to do a volunteer job have him do it. They get volunteer hrs and it is a break from cleaning. Mine is now in Japan and loving it.

I have a quick question for someone. My son is in A school. Not sure how long he will be there, but would like a vehicle. I was going to let him use one of our vehicles while he is there and let him get his own insurance on it, then when he has to leave i will go get the car back and he won't have to store it. Is this a good idea? Anyone else in this situation?

You just need to give him a note that he has permission to drive your car.
