Welcome aboard! You will want to join the wives, gf fiancee group on this website. I see that you found the boot camp group. You will also want to look for the Nuke group...There are a few so look for the largest membership, there is a lot of info on that page.
You have one special guy! Do you know if he wants MM, EM, or ET? Is he thinking of going surface or sub?
My son is Sub Nuke MM2, been in the fleet a little over 2 years!
  • Pat

Mine is kind of dissappointed in that he has never been to sea and has been in the fleet 2+ years, his sub is in drydock. Your sailor will 'be placed' as an ET, EM, MM towards the end of BC. The break down is generally (at least last time I checked) 50 - 60% go MM, 20-30% go EM, and 10-20% go ET and based on the needs of the Navy. School for the ET and EM is approximately 3 months longer than for an MM. You will find a lot of information on the nuke group that has a pix of the school. School will be difficult, encourage him to be his best at all times.

Because of the type of job and what they are actually doing shipboard you need more MM than EM or ET. Go to Google and search Navy Nuke MM, EM, ET...you will find a good description of these jobs. Again it is also dependent on the Navy needs...meaning that if the Navy feels they have a good number of MM in the training pipeline, then more will go EM and ET. Or if they are "full" in the training pipeline for ET, there may not be any ET in a particular boot camp class. I also wonder if the turn-over rate for MM is faster, but no proof of that comment.
If you have not gotten a satisfactory answer to your 'have to be 21 for the hotel'...look for the MWR number @ Great Lakes and get them to make suggestions or help you find a place to stay.

Wegot the form letter with the date of 4/30 and a small letter on the bottom. He said he is doing ok real stressed about learning all the orders. He said food isn't bad. They got their camos he said thats the only good thing so far! My son is going to Flordia to be an AV aviation electronic computer tech. We are looking at flights and hotels so excited!
  • Rusty and Lisa

We booked the airfare already out of Lax, still looking at hotels. I found one hotel that is real nice called (Midland Golf Resort, Hawthorn) they have a navy rate of 79.00 but there is nothing around that area, like food or stores. Still looking for a hotel.
  • Rusty and Lisa

WE ARE GOING THURS. MORNING. DON'T KNOW HOTEL YET. CAN'T WAIT TO GET LETTERS. IHOPE THEY GOT THEIR LETTERS ON SUNDAY I KNOW MY SON NEEDS THE ENCOURGMENT.

Hey! Yeah that is awesome that you're my age haha. It's soo nice having people who are my age, AND with kids, AND with a guy in the nuke program ya know? I was really stressful because no one understood until I got on this site. And are you moving with your husband when he graduates? I will be. And maybe sometime we can hang out and let the kids run around and play haha.
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

Hey! That's awesome that you're my age and also have a child.. AND have a husband in the nuclear navy.. seriously I'm so glad I found this site. None of my friends understand at all! So its great seeing so many young people who are in my situation. But yeah, are you moving with your husband to A-school? I will be.. and if you are, we can get together and do fun stuff while the husbands are at work hahaha. Annnd let the kiddies play. :)
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

whoopsie, just ignore the second comment i sent haha. or first one.. either one. I didn't notice that you moderate comments, so I thought my first comment didn't get published! oops! haha
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

Haha, yeah, they're doing okay, but it's still not the same! And yeah I feel ya on that.. week three and it seems we got forever left.. I rather be in week three than just starting, that's for sure. But aw your son is 19 months? when was he born? My daughter was born Aug. 16th 2008. But yeah for a while i was stressing about the moving situation.. apparently they fly down there and set it up with the housing, then come back and move us and the kids.. i felt so much better after hearing that
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

Aw you're doctor tortured you! Poor thing! And Aw that is cute that they are almost exactly the same age! Haha. But oh, I actually live in Indiana.. northern Indiana I should say. I'm about 2 hours away from Great Lakes, so his mom is going to drive me there with her.. and whoever else my husband decided to put on the guest list. We're going to go there to the graduation without the kids, then come home later that night.. and then the next day bring the kids. I'm wanting to do a DITY move as well. Gotta see what he says first!
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

OH, and yeah I did get my military ID. I actually got it yesterday. I got the form in the mail about a week ago and I eventually went there to get it done.. so I'm glad that's all situated!!
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

Wow, I soo did not get an email notif. about your comment. whoops! But yeah, so I guess you got married 3 months before Greg and I. That really sucks that he won't be there for your first anniversary. He'll make it up to you. :-) Heck, I'm pretty sure my husband will forget our anniversary amongst all of the work he's going to be doing! Haha
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

That sounds soo fun! This is really sad, but I've never been to six flags.. or any kind of theme park! So I don't know what I'm missing! Well, from what I hear, when Greg graduates bootcamp, he'll stay in Great Lakes for a week.. well that is what the reruiter said and I'm not taking it that serious.. and once he gets his orders, he flies to Charleston to get paperwork and housing settled, and he comes back here to move me and the kids because he has to be present for the move. That's what I heard. I really hope that's true!
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

OHHh yeah I gotta! Especially since I'll be free without the kids! Time to finally enjoy a little time alone with him. Annnnd...... military discounts! Yesss! :)
  • Kristen (Greg, Nuke ET3's Wife)

Ohh! And if you want, you can add me on Facebook if you have one. I'm always on it..a lot more pics of me, Greg, and our kiddies.
