A little about me:: My name is Sandy and I am a wife and a mother of 3 wonderful sons, ages 11, 19, and 22. I returned back to school to become a dental assistant.

The Navy offers opportunities that...: I am now a very proud mom of a US Navy Sailor. My son's PIR date was 8/6/10. I will never forget my son's PIR. It made the ups and downs of boot camp worth every minute.
I have made many wonderful friends on NavyForMoms.com. I could not have gone through it with out their support.

Hey. I hope to hear from Ben soon as well. I havent heard anything from him since the one phone call saying he got there ok. I cant fly to his graduation because Im pregnant with his lil one. So Im to find someone to drive me up there. Ill be almost 8 months at that point & dont want to drive by myself. It was hard getting his box as well.

Hi Sandy! Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that you've heard from your son and that he was actually enjoying boot camp! I think that being a little older will be an advantage for him.
So far, we have only had the short note that Ben was able to write with the graduation information that they sent. I'm sure it will be a little easier once we know how things are going for him! I will let you know when we hear.

Hi Sandy, how are you doing? Sorry I hadn't gotten on here the last few days. You asked if I knew about the 3 tests they have to take, and I think those must be the swimming ones...or at least that's what I had heard. I will just be glad for us to hear from my son! So far, we are still waiting for a letter or phone call. To make things worse, someone on here told my son's wife that my son had called me...not sure why they would say such a thing. It's made things alot more stressful for all of us!

We're hoping that my ex and his wife will drive, then she can ride with them, otherwise her dad might take off and drive her up there. I can't get enough time off work to drive and will be flying up.

Hi Sandy! My son thought bc was going to be harder (physically), although he wouldn't want to go through it again - ever! He didn't like the "slackers" in his division that made life tougher for the rest of them. He REALLY likes being in the Navy and thought the lessons they learned in bc (even the difficult ones) were necessary and he had a lot of respect for his RDC's. He hated one at first, but that turned around when he finally "got" the picture of what they were trying to teach them. I hope this helps. Friend me if you want to talk more! Hey Sandy! Im doing ok, hanging in there the best I can. This heat we are having here is killing me!!! I write Ben everyday & I go to the mail box everyday & still no letter :( Im hoping one comes this week. At first I didnt think I was gonna be able to make to his graduation but I will. Im gonna have my dad drive me up there so I can see him. I cant wait to see him either!!! & I kinda know where your younger son is coming from. I kinda feel like this lil one that im carrying thinks daddy left for good. Because he aint here to rub the belly or talk to him anymore like he use to all the time.

Hi Sandy! I just wanted to check and see if you had gotten your first letter yet. If you haven't, it can't be much longer now. We got mail yesterday! Wow, what a relief but also a reality check when you hear some of the things that they are experiencing. Hey!!! Yes I did get a letter & I got another one today. Im not sure what division he is in right now. He said he is being moved around along with some other guys. They are being moved from div 267 & 268. So they all have the same PIR date. But im not sure why they are shuffling guys in different divisions but with the same PIR date. He said most of the guys havent been able to talk to eachother yet. He also said that they had there swim test last week. Have you heard from your son???

Hey Sandy! I hope you hear from your son today! I wouldn't think that they would NOT let him write you, just maybe is taking a bit longer for you to get his letter. I heard that they are allowed to send mail starting the 2nd Sunday. I know how hard the waiting can be! I'll be thinking about you and hope to hear good news soon!

Im sure he will get the letters. Just may take a lil bit longer. I hope you hear from your son soon. His recruiter may not give you much info because of the privacy act. I ran into some of that.

O hey.. I def will. Right now.. just waiting for some stuff from my doc. Then I can talk to the recruiter. Everything has been on stand-by right now pending that blessed letter. I consider it my golden ticket. hopefully next week i can get it. :)

Hi Sandy! Just checking in on you. Hope your weekend is going ok! I meant to let you know that we think they may have moved my son to Div 267 since that was on the return address when he wrote last Sunday. He said there were some younger guys in his division that kept messing up and the whole division had to pay for it. I do hope they let them call home soon! Take care!

Hi, Sandy. Yes, in the Navy, "no news is good news." They have to call home anytime there is a change, so know that he is safe and fine! Contact can be very sporadic and varies by division. Even some in the same division may miss their time to call if they had watch, etc. So just be patient and know he is doing well!

Hi Sandy! I know that Ben would normally want to help the ones that were having trouble, too! His dad, who went thru Great Lakes in the late 70's said that the one time he got in trouble in boot camp was when he and another guy dropped back in a run to try to encourage one of the slower guys. Maybe they had been told not to do this, I don't know. For some of the kind-hearted recruits that would be a normal thing to do!

Sandy, my son, Ben's weak area is not being able to float. He's a strong swimmer but has never been able to float. In the first letter he wrote Kimmy, he said that he had passed a swimming test...I'm hoping it included the floating part!! From what we have read on this site, the Navy won't give up on you but will work with you to get it right, unless or until you give up on yourself. I think it will probably help our sons that they are both older than the average recruit. For sure it will give them a little more experience to fall back on.

I know what you mean, I worry about how my son is doing himself, too!

Yes, Sandy, I will be so happy if it did include the floating part! Otherwise, I hope that he will stick to it until he gets it! Oh wow, I didn't know that part about their uniforms! Lol!

Hi Sandy! Sorry for not getting back with you sooner...I've been out of town for the weekend. Wow, what a great treat for you! I'm so happy to hear that you finally got your call for your son! Ben was able to talk with Kimmy on Thursday for about 15 min. She said he sounded good, better than in his letters! Like alot of the other guys, Ben was frustrated with the few that are making it hard on the rest of the division. Oh, also, we found out that at some point Ben was put in the 267th division. I'm not sure when this happened or if we had the wrong division this whole time! Oh well, lol. I hope your stress level is a bit better after talking with your son!

Hey Sandy, don't know about you but the stress of not knowing if they will graduate is driving me crazy. We still have plans up in the air and this doesn't help. I am praying that they can get under control and get on track so they can graduate. How are you hanging in there?

Hey Sandy! The only thing my husband has told me is that they had a big test last week. & they had more coming up in the next few weeks. But other than that I dont know when the test are.

Sandy, I think, for us moms, the lack of continuous communication is one of the more difficult things to adjust to with the whole Navy experience! For myself, it was much easier once I know how HE was doing! From what other people have posted, unless the whole division is having issues, it will be individuals, not the division, that will be held back. I'm really praying that Ben will pass his tests these next 2 weeks! Not much time left! Stay strong!

Sandy...my son is in DIV 264 and is struggling with that 1.5 mile run... from what he told me... yes, they have 3 PFAs...but, they MUST pass the final one in order to graduate. The final one is coming up next week for DIV 264...

Well, 264 did get to call yesterday...10 minutes... I loved hearing Justin's voice...but, knowing that he is still struggling with that 1.5 mile run is worrying me sick... I have been awake since 2am... so, I KNOW exactly what you mean...and, my husband tells me the same thing! Yes, he did say that he MUST pass it on Wednesday... he has passed EVERYTHING else from what I understand... He still says he would enlist again... my boyfriend, he doesnt feel like he is "baby sitting" a few of them anymore, because they are finally starting to get the hang of it. He also helped someone with their test, because they had 1 lap left, and the guy wanted to quit. So he helped him and got him thru the last lap, so i was pretty happy he was helping people still lol. He said in his letter that i got yesterday, he thinks his bunk mate is going to go home, because hes failed both "PFA's". that is actually my boyfriends, second bunk mate. his last bunk mate quit. so i hope this bunk mate doesnt get sent home. i really hope and pray, they are all working together as a team!

Yes, Jamey is a helping guy, he told me hes always helping people, straighten their shoes, fold stuff, ect. Im super proud of him :) and Sandy, yes i know, i hate the worrying part in me lol. But he never said his name i just reread the letter, and all it said was "my new bunk mate might be going home, he failed his last 2 PFA's." Has your son always been bunked at the bed hes at now? Because Jamey had a 26 year old before this bunk mate.

But i dont think its him, because Jamey said that the guy failed his 1st and 2nd one, and your son only did the 2nd! so im thinking that its a different guy my boyfriend is talking about!!! :) I HOPE your son stayss!!!! i bet he will pass his third one! ill pray he does :)

Sandy, how did your son do on his PFA? I've been praying that his blisters healed up and he did ok! This last week was a busy one for me, work-wise, so wasn't on here so much. Saying lots of prayers for our sons as they go thru these last few weeks of BC! It's not much longer now! I hope to meet you at the meet n greet on Aug 5th!

Sandy, just a note of encouragement for Brenden. A mom contacted me yesterday since her son failed his run. His BStations is on Sunday. He was to get one more try today...he had to improve 30 seconds. Well, he DID it! He will be participating now in BStations on Sunday. I just know that Brenden will too. Doesn't he do the test on Sunday? I'm praying!
