Hi, I'm in northern IL. It sounds like our sons went at the same time. : )
Did you get to come down to the ball game? Is this your first child to leave home? I also have a daughter who is 20 and she is away at college. Write when you get a chance. I would like to get to know you, maybe we can offer some support to each other.
Just remember, he will be home before you know it. : ) Have a good day, Shawna
Hi,
Your son must have been at the same swearing in as my Grandson. We were there, and my daughter got two very good pictures with Jake in them.
Changes, changes, changes. You would think by now I'd be used to changes.
God bless you and all of yours.
I'll pray for your son along with my Grandson.
Thanks.

How was the concert? I live in northern IL, I think that is why I got the letter so quickly.
Ladies, make sure you answer your phone evern if you don't know who is calling you never know when it will be out sons. : ) The letter had the graduation date, address and a short note from my son. I hope you get your letter soon. Have a good weekend.
I was hoping for the form letter today but no such luck:( I am writing letters so I will have something to send as soon as I get his address. I am anxious to get the info on the PIR so I can start making plans! My son Jake has a Special Ops Diver contract and was processed at MEPS in Montgomery, AL on June 6. He arrived at RTC that same evening. Hard having no contact with him. I see you can only have four tickets for PIR and there is me, my husband and three siblings so I guess one of us has to skip the graduation. Is there any way to get an extra ticket?
Awesome!!! I was hoping you would get your letter today. : ) My son didn't say much. I surprised he did write. I already put a letter in the mail yesterday and started another one yesterday afternoon. My son is going to be an aircraft mechanic. How about yours? So will you be coming down for his graduation? We will have to try to meet before hand. I better go, I'm at work. I wanted to write because I wont be home until about 8 tonight. Take care. Talk with you soon. : )
Just a quick note, I'll write back tonight after I get home. I've been so busy I can't believe it's already Wednesday. Can I ask what your sons name is? Also, my husband and I would love to meet you and your family. We will be attending the graduation with our daughter, hopefully she is able to get off work and not have class that day. : ) I thought I was doing ok, not missing Austin and then a friend of mine sent me pictures taken at his graduation.... I was almost in tears. My co workers son is in the mariens and she talks alot about when her son when to basic traing. : ) It is interesting. Have an awesome day and I'll give you my contact information -
Hi Wi Mom,
Hope you have adjusted to not having your son around.
My Grandson has written a note to his Mom and brother, but nothing for Grandma. Oh well, I know how busy they are and his Mom, Brother should come first.
Best wishes.

Awww, you got your box? !! I haven't gotten mine yet. I probably won't get one.
I'm sorry I had to be so quick the other day. I'm going to sit down and write to you tonight. It's been really BUSY at work and I'm doing my job and helping someone else. Then after work it seems like there is always something. I'm not getting home until 9 at night.
Anyway, I better get to work, it was good talking with you and I'll write again tonight.
Hi, sounds like fun. We have a small lake in our town, google it sometime. : )
Have fun this weekend. Maybe I'll get my kid in the box tomorrow. I think the weather is supposed to be nice this weekend. Congratulation on 31 years!! That is awesome. : )
I'll e mail you at your other address this weekend.
I was trying to write to you yesterday and before I knew it the day was over and I was ready for bed. How was your weekend? No box from Austin but he did send three letters. I went home for lunch and heard the mail lady so I went out and was so HAPPY to see mail from my son. : ) he said in his final letter - PS Mom, I heard you've been talking with one of my shipmates. I'm at work so I'll write to you tonight at your other e mail address. Shawna
I forgot your e mail address at my office. I haven't been on line much. I'm training for a half marathon so I've been busy after work. How was your weekend? I'll tell Austin to give Tim some paper so he can write home. : ) Hang in there, I'm sure you'll get a letter soon. Are you working? I was thinking about calling you tomorrow on my lunch break at noon. What do you think? I have your number saved in my phone. Let me know if you'll be available. I'm sorry I have to log off now. I was up early and I'm tired. I'll talk with you tomorrow. Have a good night and stay strong.
Well, here we are in week four, how are you doing? Have you gotten a phone call or anymore mail from your son? Nothing here. I'm hoping for a letter tomorrow. Have you made arrangments for graduation yet? I was thinking we might get a room close to the base that way we could meet with some of the other parents. I better get off here. I have work to do. I hope all is well with you and your family. Talk with you soon. : )
Hey! Well, I try...ha! My son PIRed back in Feb 2010 so I have had a long time on the site to collect info to pass along to you all. I try to be as accurate and encouraging as possible! Let me know if you have any questions!
I'm so sorry...Ok, first advice for you...BREATHE! This happens often...stress fractures and other broken bones happen alot. Step up your letter writing to him, and try to get others to write often. It can get discouraging there....and they need to stay UP! I would like to put you in touch with a lady on the 7/29 group. Yep, your group! KCsMom(ship9Div240). Please message her. Her son just went through this. I think she can help you alot. Tell her that I sent you to her. OK? This is a time when you need to network with other ladies in your spot. She may tell you to join RCU, Ship 6 and Ship 5 (formerly Ship 17) groups for more support. Find KCsMom either from the posts on 7/29 are in the group members listing at the top of 7/29's page. Hang in there....this is just a bump in the road for him...remind him of that...he'll get there. And the GOOD thing is...he will eventually be put into another division to continue training and will PIR then!
Hello! I agree w/ Diannep- breathe, and you know what? All the thing you hear are actually true. He is in good hands, he will be seen by a Dr once a week, he will go to physical therapy 3 times a week and he will get LOTS OF SLEEP. They go to bed by 9:30pm and don't have to get up quite as early. He will be allowed to call you once every weekend to give you updates & the call will last approx 30min to 45min. It is a very depressing atmosphere, I must warn you- so gather the troups to send A LOT of letters! I can tell you so much more but don't want to overwhelm you.
KC had a stress fracture of the Talus bone- just under the ankle. The doctor told him 8-10 weeks recovery. He actually recovered in 6 which makes me think that it was a very small fracture. He moved into RCU (ship 4). They do nothing related to reaching the goal of PIR other than rest and physical therapy. There are 4 phases of P.T. and they have to progress through all phases and then the final 'medical run' to get out. When you talk to him, get all your questions out and answered - then talk about what is going on in the world, or in town or with the family b/c it has been my experience that they lose touch with the outside world and feel better talking about stuff other than RCU. My son was absolutely miserable in there. If by chance, your son likes Dungeons and Dragons, there are a few guys there that are into that. My son wasn't. Lots and lots and lots of mail. I even had my 7 and 10 yr olds whole class make get well cards. That kept him busy reading them for a while. I didn't send them all at the same time, but spread them out so he had a few each day. Then, when we had gatherings like a baby shower, or Easter dinner, I set out stationary and asked everyone to please write a quick note of encouragement. And, the calls don't always come on a Sat. or always on a sunday. They change depending on the mood of the RDC. So, never leave your phone!!!! The calls come between 1pm-6pm (ET).
I believe that when that chat room was started RCU was in ship 6. I think ship 6 was being renovated so everybody was moved to ship 4. Same thing though.
This has happened a few times. You can take the DIV numbers off by porting your fingernail under the edge and pulling them off. There is a good chance the first number may be the same so I wouldn't take them off yet. I will send you new numbers free of charge to put on them a soon as you know the new DIV number. I know this is hard but hopefully he will be back on track and have a new PIR date very soon. a year from now a setback of a couple of weeks won't seem like such a big deal and it often turns out to be a good thing in the end. I will keep him in my prayers. Let me know how things are going.
You know, I was actually hoping he would finish straight out of RCU and just leave - I didn't care, I just wanted him out of there. But, I'm glad I got to see the PIR afterall. Ya just never know how it's all gonna end. Some leave straight from RCU and some go through PIR. Either way is great. And yes, it is finally over. I did not meet anyone else there that had a kid in RCU or that had been there as long as my son. Exactly 100 days at the time of PIR. He left on the 101st day, but he left so early that he never even saw a petty officer/RDC so that didn't count!!!!!! How did your w/e call go??? What did he accomplish this week? And how is he feeling?
Oh, WOW! That is SO exciting! Yes, light that candle....he sure has earned it! You will have a United States Navy Sailor tomorrow! HOOYAH! I'm so happy for you...and can just picture that smile on your face! Please tell him congrats from all on Navy for Moms! We are so proud of him! Best of luck in his next journey at A School! Can't wait for you to get that call tomorrow!
I just read that your son was doing well and was having battlestations last week but no PIR. I am so happy for him. I know he must be glad to be better and ready to begin his next adventure. I hope you are doing well. Let me know if you are going to go to hia A-school graduation. Some of them are very small and not many people come but some are bigger. It just depends on his rate and how many are graduating. Maybe I can re-do the ribbons for you. I hope you get to see him soon. I know it has been a long hard journey.
