Kristhns - congratulations on the enlistment of your SR. I chose not to go to the airport, left after all his work was completed at MEPS. You will look forward to each milestone. The "Kid in a Box" was fine, the mail lady rang my doorbell and left it at the door. I sat in my livingroom and stared at the box through the door window for 15 minutes before I brought the box in. I did not cry, I smiled, his clothes rumpled in the box, cell phone taken apart in the pockets of his backpack. It is still sitting in his room. Our dog sleeps next to the box and so does one of the cats! I guess it is their way of connecting with him. Receiving the form letter is exciting, I did not have a short note on mine, but some parents did get notes. You then know when graduation is and are able to send letters. I then made hotel and flight arrangements within the week. Keep smiling, cry when you need to, and stay on this site for the moral support of the other family members of the SRs. Welcome! BTW rnterry also lives in Washington, her son's PIR is 7/27
I got the box two days after he got in GL and I live in CA. You could also receive your sailor in the box this Friday, depends where you live. The midnight call was scripted right?? I forgot it went so quick, two weeks a phone and three weeks a letter or vice versa. Call his recruiter Monday and he should have his address and you can start writing him. Be strong, it is hard but you will feel better when you get his box, I did,.I still have my moments but writing him helps now that I have an address,
