After 7+ months, Carter is reporting to his first duty station and submarine in Pearl Harbor. Never had to be "on hold" or ACU. Graduated top of his A school class and has advanced pay grades. We had 2 weeks with him home during holiday stand-down and another 2 weeks of leave this month before ge left for Hawaii. He has been assigned to the newest submarine in the fleet, The USS North Carolina SSN 777. He will be there 3-4 years but we can skype, text or talk (AT&T domestic) as much as possible now before he goes underway. He has made friends already, been to the other side of the island in a friend's mustang, and gone snorkeling. Doesn't sound like he is having a hard time being away from home. Now Mama and girlfriend will have to figure out how we are going to cope.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?

When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
Married a "nuke" submariner 23 years ago and now our middle son is following in his footsteps. I understand the process families and sailors go through before a scheduled deployment; letting go, creating distance, girding yourself for the loneliness. I believe the phrase, "don't miss them before they leave".
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Well, done with schools in Groton, finishing first in his A school class, he is en route to Pearl Harbor. Had almost 2 weeks with him at home. We are going to miss him so much but very excited for his great adventure.
