A little about me:
June, 2013: I've had some time to get used to my son being in the Navy. I can't believe it's been almost a year already! We got through all our "firsts" - first Christmas without him here, first time being separated on his birthday (it was his 21st birthday), Mother's Day, etc. He's currently in Nuke School and doing well. I'm so proud of him!

During the last year, I've gone through a lot of stages. There is a real mourning process for when a child grows up and moves away. I think it's even tougher when a child joins the military because there are so many restrictions and the parent has lost any say in the matter.

But even with all the hard times, I think joining the Navy was the best thing my son could have ever done. I am so incredibly proud of him.

One of the things I've learned in the last year is that I am my own person; my identity isn't only wrapped up in my kids. So, since this block is titled "About me", here's a little about me:
I am a wife and mother of three nearly-grown kids. I work full time in broadcast news with a primary focus on agriculture. I love being outside when the weather is mild. Where I live, it regularly hits 105-110 in the summer, so I prefer to be in the air conditioning then! I also enjoy going to church, photography, dancing and music that most other people think is terrible (BeeGees anyone?).
So that's a little about me. :) Below is the first entry I made on this site.

July, 2012: I'm joining this on the day my son left for boot camp. I've spent four hours crying in my bed, then decided to see what support I can find on the internet. I'm so proud of him, and at the same time so completely lonely for him. He's never been away from home, so this is new for all of us.
