You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!

My son is a Naval Aviator who went through OCS. It took him 3 1/4 years to get his wings. They had told him 2-2.5 years but it was during Covid so it took longer. The 8 year commitment does not start till they earn their wings. Then, he got selected to fly the E2-D and that took him another year of training in that platform.  He is now assigned to a squadron and on his first deployment and will be attached to that squadron for 3 years. He is scheduled to do 2 deployments in that time. After that, he has to find another position and he can be an instructor at one of the places he trained at, try for test pilot school, or other positions I am not familiar with.  I do not think necessarily those jobs will be desk jobs but since we have not gotten that far I do not know. But so far my son has my flying a lot.  Hope this helps.
