You life will be Hurry Up and Wait and it’s ok to make plans but they are subject to change until after they have happened so it’s best to embrace the Motto: Semper Gumby!! (Always Flexible!!)
Kris - Good Morning!! I am another "seasoned" mom that helps reach out to our new BC Mom and Loved ones members. We are glad to have you. I see you already found your way to the Comment wall on our group page, that is great!! It is the best place to post your questions, or anything as more of our regular members who follow along with see your messages posted there than up in the discussion area.
In case you missed it, here it the link again that B'sNukeMom posted on the page for you - Recruit Training Command - Recruits (navy.mil) - it should take you to the information on preparing for BC.
#1) - Your son needs to make sure he is running at least every day, if not every other day, working on his pushups and I think they are doing planks now instead of sit-ups.
Also, if he is able to go swimming, but also practicing the float. He can ask his recruiter.
#2) All SRs (seaman recruits) are expected to either be vaccinated or receive the COVID vaccination now.
#3) If he doesn't already have his driver's license, if he can get that done before he leaves, that is a lot better than if he tries to do it once at A school or whatever.
#4) He may keep his current bank account, but if he is near a Navy Federal Credit Union and can go ahead and set up his bank account and see about their Early Start CD savings, that is easier to do. You can be put on to his account so you can help if he would need any assistance with something while deployed or out to sea. A benefit of having the NFCU is that their DOD (Department of Defense) checks will usually go in a day earlier and there are some other things that are beneficial.
Sorry I am just seeing this, it is kinda hard to navigate through this site. I am still learning. Thanks for the useful info. I have joined alot of helpful groups and learned so much already!! I feel like I will have so much support..xoxo
