My Son leaves San Diego June 23rd for RTC. He will be going to Nuke School after PIR. I am going to move to South Carolina in August and stay while he is in school. Anyone else going to do the same? I know its a slim to none chance but I thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone else is going to do the same. I am a SD native and look forward to the adventure. I am a single mom. I was a navy wife for 16 years so I am no stranger to the Navy. I will be driving there. If anyone else is thinking about it and would like to travel together let me know. Or if anyone is in SC and could give some info that would be great too. [

Hi Angie, I'm not going to S.C. but I'm a single mom too. I lived on Camp Pendleton for a couple of years so I'm no stranger to military life. I'm now in grad school in MO and I really miss San Diego. I was there just last year at the Mira Mar Air Show watching the Blue Angels, one of my favorite places to be. My son leaves June 18th for bootcamp and I'm real excited for him but dreading the actual goodbye. It's nice to meet you.
Its nice to meet you as well. I am a big fan of the air shows. Went to the world air show when it was at brown field in san diego. I am a native of san diego. But always up for an adventure. Moving to south carolina should be an adventure. I understand the whole saying goodbye thing. Its gonna be hard. I am also going to go to college. Whats your major? Mine is going to be computer science. I wanna be as smart as my son. lol he had to get his smarts somewhere. lol........Sons are the best. I only have one child and he is the greatest. How is school in MO? Weather in Hemet Ca is sunny today as usual....
Hi Angie, my major is Public Health. I'm a registered nurse and I thought I would augment my career by focusing on health issues for public as a whole. That's great your going back to school! My older son is in college getting his Bachelors in computer science as well. You should be able to find lots of great opportunities with that field. And yes sons are the best. The weather here in MO is a lot different than San Diego. Last winter was rough to say the least. Right now the weather is pretty mild but July and August is going to be really hot. I'm at a great school so it makes up for it. I miss San Diego though. Looks like my son may be headed back that way for some training :)
Well I bet you don’t miss the expense of San Diego. Rent is out of control now. The public health crisis needs all the help they can get. You should have great job security.
Is your son in Nuke school now?
How did you like living on Camp Pendleton?
No, my son is going to work on sonars. However, he keeps talking about doing EOD. I'm not sure what that entails but I can only guess. Camp Pendelton was pretty awesome. It was during Desert Storm and that was a very busy place. Your son must of done very well on his test to go into Nuke school. Good for him.
We stayed a couple of nights on camp pendleton. At the beach, in those trailers that where right on the beach.....it was fun. Living on that base sounds like so much fun.
Sonars and Nukes go together don’t they? LOL IDK........Well the Military doesn’t just take anyone anymore. They can pick and chose now can't they? I would think so. Its a great job with great benefits. But EOD? You got one brave son. those guys save thousands of lives every day. Well bombs and nukes now they go together......lol
All I know is he passed the test. He said it was pass or fail. He took a lot of Math in high school. Weird math. I could even begin to explain it. I think that played a roll too. My job was to make sure he graduated and went to college. I guess Nuke school will meet that quota....As long as he becomes an officer. I really hope he does.
Don't you just envy them!.......the world at there finger tips.....they can do whatever they want to do...so many jobs to choose from.....I tell my son that all the time "the world is your oyster...
Yep, that's exactly right. Hopefully if they choose to go to school the GI bill will still help out. As I mentioned my other son is in college for computer science but he (and I) have huge school bills to pay. So going in to the military is such a smart idea. To be young again :)
You know Angie I'm not sure. I guess I should ask since I'm helping with his tuition. Khan Academy is relly good. It's helped me through Biostatistics, yuck.
