Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.

Since you have a recruit at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted." You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Since your future Sailor has a contract for Aircrew (AIRC), join AIRCREW, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola and check out Airman Family and Friends.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR, but may fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues. Plan to leave on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Your Sailor will be assigned to a class "A" school for a rating within the AIRC program while in Naval Aircrew Candidate School (NACCS). That assignment will be based on his/her test scores, personal desires, needs of the Navy, and continued eligibility for the aircrew program.

The Rating Information Card for AIRC can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aircrew.pdf; the one for Naval Aircrewmen Mechanical (AWF) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awf.pdf; the one for Naval Aircrewmen (Operator) (AWO) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awo.pdf; and the one for Naval Aircrewmen (Avionics) (AWV) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awv.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

For now, "Don't start missing him before he leaves." There is plenty of time for that once he is gone and crying only makes you and him miserable. Help him prepare by going through Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC with him and getting his wallet ready (and include a little note for him telling him how proud you are of him) and discuss how to handle bad news and who he will place on the Access List.

You will get used to the new normal. Yes, something will hit you (sometimes the smallest of things will bring tears) and you will miss him, but if you then think of the pride you have in him and remember that he is pursuing her dreams, then it won't be so bad. You raised a fine young man although he will always be your little boy. We raise our children to grow up and to be independent and leave and follow their dreams, but any change is hard. You really didn't expect him to be with you when he's 35 did you? He has to leave sometime and soon is his time.

You raised an amazing young man who is pursuing his dreams. Once he leaves, stay busy, take care of yourself, stay connected with others going through the same thing (I left groups below and join your PIR group as well once it has been created), stay connected with the ones who are still at home by being involved with them, stay connected with your SR by writing encouraging letters even before you have his address (see Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for ideas), and stay informed about what is going on with your recruit in BC (there's a lot of info in the Pages in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and later in your PIR group) and what to expect at PIR and after (if you give me his contracted rating, job/specialty, I will give you info).

Yes, it's fine to fall apart every now and then. (Showers are great places for that.) Just don't stay there. You will get used to the new normal and getting the form letter so that you can send letters and then getting that first "real" letter around the third week may help (remember though that the first letter from a recruit may indicate things aren't going so well--don't worry; it will get better as the recruits learn to work together and to do things the Navy way instead of their own way).

(((((hug))))) that's a cyber hug from one Navy Mom to another.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 09/15/2015 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.

I am having a very hard time with my son leaving for boot camp. He leaves Sept 15th. I know this is a great time in his life and I am so proud of him. But I cannot imagine not talking to him/seeing him for a while. We all know the few calls we do get will not be the same as normal. I am trying so hard but I am so sad. How did y'all get through this? Please help.
