Tell her definitely not to loose faith!! There is so much ahead of her yet and she has lots of time to apply her talents and skills moving forward. The past is past - - focus on the future now. She can work towards a higher degree now that she understands the importance of good grades. Hopefully she will be able to retake the ASVAB so it can open more choices for her. The ratings she might want to go into are based on those scores. My son is an IS (Intelligence Specialist) and he's the one who just got his degree in Criminal Justice. He's been in the Navy 9 years. It's never too late!!!!!!!
Cathybeaches,
Is it possible she can take the ASVAB again, in hopes of getting a better score?? It might be worth a question to her recruiter!! I understand how difficult it is for our youngsters to grasp the concepts that what they do in their teen years can still follow them around when they become young adults. I think these skills should be drilled into kids when they are still in high school!!! We all know how they want to "go off on their own" as soon as they get out of high school, but they just don't have all the skills and knowledge that 20/20 hindsight gives us!!!!! I hope things work out well for her. She is young still and has her whole future ahead of her. She can still achieve her dreams!!!!
Cathybeaches,
I understand your concerns and worries. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have - if I can't answer I will help you find the answers!!!! Even tho I joined the Navy 100 years ago when I got right out of high school, I was worried about my first daughter when she told me that was what she wanted to do. But I gave her 110% support because it is her life to live. She is out now going to school on the GI Bill and she is so happy she picked the path she did. She really wouldn't have been ready to go to college 4 years ago, and now her college is paid for!!! Now my second daughter is in the Navy but as an officer because she went to college first. She is in flight training in Pensacola. Living her dream of flying!!!! And I have a son serving, and he also just got his degree in Criminal Justice!!! Has your daughter given any thought to going officer since she has a college degree? In that field she could become an Intelligence officer. I'm sending you a friend request and then you can send me a private message if you'd like to ask questions and not post it out in the open!!!!!
Cathybeaches,
I got your message you sent out. If your daughter has taken the ASVAB test then she is already in contact with a recruiter. Those tests are only administered through a recruiter, they could be given in a local school, the recruiter's office, or they could be taken to MEPS and take it there. Either way, there is a recruiter involved. After she gets the results of her test her recruiter will talk to her about what she is qualified for and what is available. Not sure from your message if she went to a MEPS to take the test or if she did it at the recruiter's office. Contact me with a little more info and I can help you with the next steps she will take. How are you feeling about all this? Do you have concerns you want to ask?? I'm here to help any way I can!!! I have three that have gone Navy, two are still in - one officer, one enlisted. My husband and I are both Navy vets as well.
Cathybeaches,
