Oh everything with the military is very precise! The PIR ceremony begins promptly at 9 am and will be over by 10:45 and by 11 am that graduation hall will be cleared out and you will be waiting for your sailor for further instruction. The gates do open early like 6 am or 6:30 but the ceremony itself is 9am.

Awesome, so glad that you got a great letter and a call! If you have the parking permit and hotel reservation made - you should be all set for graduation. Grad 'n go may not have any impact on your time with him --- depending on where he is heading and when.

Only a week to you see that sailor...I know you are excited! Congrats in advance!

Daphne, There are no physical tickets issued, your recruit has an opportuntity to put four names on a list for PIR. When you go to the event, they will ask you for your recruits name and your names. You do not need passports but you do need ids and your car must be properly insured with proof of insurance available. Don't know why you haven't gotten the grad package - it's not a big thing just a regular size business envelope addressed by your son. Now they give you a password to print your parking permit - they used to mail it. If you do not see something in your mail this week, let me know and I will find the phone # to the public affairs office and they will be able to help you out. It is disappointing that he did not get to call on Moms Day but this is a busy week for them as they prepare for battlestations, etc. It will be okay :-)

Daphne, where is he going to A school? What rate is he going into - this makes a difference. Our son was grad 'n go but his A school was just on the other side of the base so yes at 12:30 that day he had to board a bus to his new ship + school but by 5:30 pm - he was released to us for the full weekend and even stayed with us at the hotel. My nephew on the other hand was grad ' n go and his A school was in Gulfport, two hours after the PIR he was on a plane to Gulfport so my sister got to spend 15 minutes with him, she was so disappointed - she went back and cancelled her hotel for the rest of the weekend and drove home the same day. It really just depends on where he is going.

Daphne, four guests are "allowed" at PIR but those under 12 do not count as a guest but can attend. There are plenty of hotels in the area including the Navy Lodge that alot of families will use, simple and clean and $63 per night. Most families will go on Thursday and come home on Sundays but it depends on if their recruit is grad 'n go or not. Some divisions will leave graduation and go immediately to their A school the same day and unfortunately you don't usually know that until you get the graduation package --- have you received that yet? It's not a big package but it gives you the guidelines and info on hotels?

Welcome to N4M. Your key to adjusting is finding a group where you can feel comfortable and get answers to your questions – Click on the underlined links:
1. New Moms Stop Here group. You should think of this group as your orientation station. We do have a number of experienced members who can answer questions and point you in the right direction.
2. Depper’s… in but not yet . is a group for those just waiting for bootcamp to start (Delayed Entry Program – a depper)
3. Boot Camp Moms group. Is he/she already in bootcamp? Or just about to go in? This is the group.
4. OCS Graduate Moms or the NROTC Moms. For those going to be an officer or going to NROTC?
Read this blog to get a jump start on how to use the N4M site.
Welcome to New Members
Of particular importance is the use of the “Search” function. You should do searches in blogs, forums, discussions for answers in previously posted threads BEFORE adding a NEW blog/discussion. Finally, it takes time to learn how to use this site. Be patient. Check your page & status box often.
Best of luck, BunkerBee and AbbyblueOK (from the New Moms Stop Here Group)
