Hey Kathy! Good to hear from you. Lizzie is doing really well in her A school. She's still in Great Lakes, of course, and "enjoying" their windy winter weather. She will be home on the 19th for a 2-week Christmas break. I believe she finishes school sometime in April and then....who knows? She's tied for 1st in her class with a 96 average, hoping that will give her more choices for her 1st duty station. Thanks for keeping up with us, Kathy. My best to you and yours and Merry Christmas from East TX! Martha

Kathy- thanks, yes this is hard. It has been a hard week. I am so thankful for this site and I check my email almost hourly looking for new info. My son left for boot camp 5/26 but we have not received "the box" yet or the letter. Anxious to know his ship/div and graduation date.

Kathy,
Oh, I can tell from your message - you and I are going to get along wonderfully!!!!!!! I can also have a easily misunderstood sense of humor!! I have to remember when posting on this and other websites that some people may not understand my humor because they don't see and hear me - they only "see" the typed words!!! I have four kids and managed to get through their lives without killing any of them!!! I often say - teenagers is a perfect example of why, in the wild, some mothers eat their young!!!!
But seriously, if you have questions don't hesitate to ask. If you want I'll send you a friend request and you can private message questions /concerns instead of putting it on the group page. So looking forward to chatting with you!!!

Hey Kathy-
Did you see my posting from yesterday? (See below.) I'm the whiniest, most pathetic sod on here. I cry at nothing and everything, and I HATE IT. I just want these feelings to go away. I'm trying really hard to not to eat donuts to try and make myself feel better.

Nothing that you are feeling is abnormal. Even the strongest people have a breaking point. Allow yourself to mourn. Stuffing it is the surest way to prolong it. That which we push away just comes back stronger, or something like that. And ask yourself if this triggers the pain from some previous experience. I find I have more crap lurking in my head waiting for an opportunity to blindside me than I could have imagined.

I'm thinking only good things for you.
Tina

I'm sure you all have figured this out already, but I'm a little slow on the uptake. I was walking the dogs today (I do some of my best thinking on the end of a leash), and I was trying to figure out why my son's going off to BC was so devastating to me.

After he left, I didn't eat for 3 days, until I got so weak that I couldn't take care of my responsibilities, and then I ate just enough to get by. I'd start sobbing at random moments and places. I really didn't know how I was going to live without him.

This is exactly how I felt, and what I did, when my dad died. And then the light bulb went on. What is the difference between a kid going to college and going to BC? Communication. And except for a gifted few, what is the difference between life and death for the people left behind? Communication.

Not being able to talk to A on the phone or email him or text him made me feel - not think, but feel - like I had experienced a little death. I think that is why the relief is so great when that first letter or call comes after the first two weeks. It's like enduring a tragedy, and then getting a glorious reprieve from it.

Hopefully, most people handle it better than I did, but I thought it was an interesting thing to share.

I went to that page, Kathy, and her division is not listed yet. She's ship 09, division 219. Hopefully I'll get the form letter today. I need to start making plans for PIR. I'll keep you posted.

Alright!! Great news about the letter from Tami. I haven't heard anything yet. I got the "box" this past Monday but no "form" letter yet. I called her recruiter and got her mailing address so I've gone ahead and sent her some letters. Hope the recruiter's info was good. Lizzie is in Ship 09 Div 219. So I guess that means they're in different barracks. I believe that's what the "ships" are anyway. I'm not sure when PIR is for us. Someone on this site said that was our date, too, but I don't know where they got that information.
Lindale is north of Tyler on Hwy 69 and I-20. I know exactly where McKinney is. I lived in Greenville from 1977 to 1995. I hated that Hwy 380 between but I think it's all 4-lane now. I'm a big believer is those very same manners you referred to. I think it's a southern thing. I'm originally from Louisiana and I was raised that way!
