Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Naval Flight Officer Candidacy. Our son is leaving soon. Looking for info

Hi Everyone,We have two boys in the Navy.  Our oldest has been in 5 years as a Nuclear Engineer.  Our youngest just joined and will be leaving soon for Naval Flight Officer training.  I've been looking for information on this.  The "Boot Camp" is 12 weeks long.  Does he come home for a bit before going to training??  Can we mail letters, can he use a calling card (I'm sure the cell phone stays home. LOL)Please let me know anything you can.  We are only a few weeks away. Thanks so much!See More

Tomorrow, our son Thomas leaves for boot camp.  I looked at the weather and on Wednesday it will be 0 with a -15 chill factor.  sigh.

This is a very proud yet very difficult time for us.  We will miss him tremendously but know he has grown into a fine young man and will do great!

Recruit access to Facebook

Posted on January 10, 2015 at 11:14pm 4 Comments

During boot camp, does a recruit ever get access to Facebook? We've had a relative pass away the day our son left and I do not want him to find out on Facebook. We are still torn as to tell him or wait until after graduation in March...
Any advice?

Where is your Sailor (Nuke) now? What vessel, if one? There may be groups I can direct you to.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link) and change the Privacy Settings for this page from "Anyone" to "Members."

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Since you have a Sailor, you can change "At Boot Camp now" above to “Enlisted.”

If you get an error message, then look at the area/s in the error message and unclick all of the choices in the area/s and make choices closer to the question/s. Some choices may have changed since you joined.

I see you have joined NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ.

The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf.

Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY at that time. Some stay in Charleston.
