Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."
Follow this link for OPSEC Guidelines:

This site is very user friendly once you get used to it and once you have the Settings set to email you to let you know when people have commented or replied to something you have an interest in (I have my settings so that I don't receive an email when someone comments within a group because some of my groups are VERY active and I don't like to receive hundreds of emails a day--not all are that active though). Go to Settings in the upper left and then click on Email and then determine what Email Notifications you want to receive. You will click the link in your email notification to take you to the new comment or reply. You can click Stop Following any time you no longer are interested in getting notifications.
You post by clicking Reply or Comment.
You can hit stop following after you reply within a group so you will get less emails and then you just go to the Groups tab and click on My Groups and then you can see when the last comment was and check if it has been since you were last there.
Make it a habit to check your My Page because you may have comments from Members and not even know it if you have the notifications turned off for comments on your My Page. To reply to someone who leaves a comment on your My Page, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" (you will have to do that if the person has their profile set to "Just My Friends") below the comment.
I hope that helps.
You are very welcome.
Don't forget to make change 3.
Hi Lynn, Congratulations! The letter I am referring to, is about two weeks after your recruit is in BC, you will get an official letter giving you their address, and their PIR (Graduation) date. This way you can make the arrangements to attend. And more importantly start writing.
I hope this helps. Lanie
Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.
Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. You may want to check out Mom’s of Navy Daughters, Mom's of Daughters 2, and Women in the Navy.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer her to some good links on there.
Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
