NewbieMom,
My daughter went into a program where she took her first oath of office while still having two years of college remaining. She was paid and received all her health benefits while she finished school and then went to OCS for commissioning. She is training as an NFO in Oklahoma. I was surprised when she told me this was the path she was taking as her degree and interests at that time was Chemistry!!! Her twin sister and older brother were both enlisted and I just didn't think she'd want the Navy life. But she does enjoy the officer side!! She did all her own research and handled it all on her own. We supported her every step of the way, but the decision was all hers. I would tell your daughter to make sure she understands every step of the process and fully knows all the ins and outs before she signs. Wishing her all the best!!! Keep us posted!!
NewbieMom,
I see you recently joined the Moms of Daughters 2 group and I want to welcome you!!! We are a friendly, caring group of moms always willing to listen and support. Please feel free to jump in and join our chats on the group page!! You can ask any questions you may have, talk freely about your feelings, fears or concerns, or just chat about life. We are all in different phases of our daughters Naval careers and we are always there for each other!!!
Your daughter sounds like an amazing young woman and has already accomplished quite a bit!! I'm not familiar with the Engineering jobs within the Navy but she should be telling her recruiter what she is interested in and what jobs she would be a good fit for. There might not be openings in those jobs now but her recruiter should be able to give her an idea when billets (openings) will be available so she can line up when she wants to enlist with when spaces are open. Has she thought about going in as an officer since she will have her college degree? If so, she needs to talk to officer recruiters who just deal with the officer side of things. Let me know if there is any other way I can help. Looking forward to getting to know you and your sailor!! Again, Welcome Aboard!!!!
