Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

A little about me:
I am a mother to four kids, 3 girls and 1 boy. They are all grown and out on their own. I have six grandkids. My son just left for RTC in Great Lakes; it's been three weeks. I am so incredibly proud of him, of the man my boy has become. Words do not express what I feel inside so I tend to ramble on. Just looking for some mother's that feel the same so my ramblings don't sound quite so crazy.
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
It's only been a few months since he enlisted, and only 3 weeks since he left for RTC so I don't feel like I know anything yet, but I'm learning. The most important thing so far is the respect, pride, and admiration I have for the people that choose the military way of life. Supporting our troops is our most important job at home.

Now that my son has been in for a year and getting ready for his first deployment, the most important thing I have learned was BE FLEXIBLE! Everything can change in the blink of an eye and you can't get upset about it. Gotta learn to go with the flow and it makes life a whole lot easier to deal with. My son is loving the Navy!
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hey Tara, hope you are hanging in there. I have so much anxiety this morning I could scream. Wish our kids didn't have BS the night before we arrive. So unfair to us. I talked to a girl in the Navy and she says that they make sure you pass. I hope she is right. Hate to think that we jumped the gun making these reservations. They wouldn't do that would they. Prayers going out to all our kids during this important week. Hang in there.

I got a call last week but it was for information only. Some security clearance thing. It was a very programed call. He could not answer any of my question. He said thanks at the end. you could tell he was prompted or someone was listening in. I wish he would call so I could find out what that was all about. I am just learning this site and I am not very good on the computer any help would be great.

Tara, try not to stress over it...there will be many without families there. I am sure he will match up with someone in his unit and go out on the town for a little bit. Then take a really long hot shower and hopefully call home! He will be so relieved to be out of BC and will adjust to not having the family with him. I am sure you will get a call that day! Hang in there, I KNOW it is hard.

I live in San Jose, CA. My daughter graduated in June from Oak Grove High School. I have two girls at home 15 & 14. We will be going out to Great Lakes for the graduation. I would be great to have someone that we know. Write to me and we can share stories.
