OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
I am a stay at home mom with two girls. I recently moved to Guam because my husband's ship is stationed here. My husband is in the merchant marines but works for the navy. I haven't found any support groups for families of merchant marines. We are pretty much left out. My husband was born here and has lots of family here on Guam but they all have very busy lives. I don't really have anyone to talk to that is going through the same situation as I where my husband is gone for a long time. I still don't know how to cope.

Hi there. I recently moved here in January to marry my sailor. We do not have children. I am not familiar with the Merchant Marines an my husband hasn't left yet. But he undoubtedly will soon and I will be in a similar situation. So I empathize very much with what you must be going through. Do you live on one of the bases here or in town? Did you have any time with hubby before his departure to get familiar with the island? Do you have a vehicle? I ask all these questions in hope of being able to know how I can be of support to you.

Welcome aboard! I know that I am not in your shoes...but my son is in the Navy and his sub is being reassigned to Guam within the next year.
I believe that you will find support within the Wives, gf, fiances group here, even if you are Merchant Marine. Go to the 'Groups' tab just under the banner at the top of the page...do a search on 'Wives'...you may also want to search on specific ship names, if you know which ones are 'in'...you may find groups with family in Guam.
I also know that my son's sub extended family are very active on facebook and the FRG (family readiness group) is very active and once they ship out will be very active at Guam. Keep me posted on how things go in the coming months. Once I know that they have all moved...I will get you in touch with them. Again, welcome aboard...Hope some of these ideas help...
