Beth, call me again. I erased your number before I wrote it down! DUH! I contacted someone with your name on facebook, hoping it was you! I haven't rec'd a response, so I suppose that wasn't you! LOL

I'm sorry I didn't write you a note last night to let you know Jordan got a call. But, she called us just before we left home to go to a brandson's ballgame and then we went out to eat with another daughter and it was 10pm when we got home. I went to bed. Like I told you, I was so devastated about not hearing from Joe, I was in a rotten mood. But, I do apologize. I really was going to write you when I got home from work today. I pulled up my email and saw your note. Talk to ya later.

Hi Beth! I know you were so excited to hear from Evan. We did not get a call, but the girlfriend did. She called us all excited and thinking we had heard from Joe first. She said the call was only for 10 minutes. Needless to say, I was vey upset, brokenhearted and then mad about it. My husband was outdone at first and even cried a little, which upset me more! After all was said and done and time had passed, I was still (and am still) heartbroken. But, it is what it is and nothing I can do about it. Jordan said he's doing great and in his element. I told her it's probably like a big, but bit rougher boy scout camp to him. I'm thrilled for you though! I'll let you know whenever I talk to Joe. I want to ask him if he knows Evan, I'm sure he does.

Ha! I wrote that last line wrong in the previous message. I meant to say, I'm NOT sure I'll be satisfied no matter which I do.

No we haven't made travel plans. I hate to fly so we thought about driving. But, that's a 17 hr trip! It would take us 2 days to get there, 2 or 3 days to stay there and then 2 days to get home. I don't think my husband's job will allow that. So, now I'm back to thinking about sucking it up and flying or possibly we won't go. We have another big trip planned for the mountains with all the other children and of course Joe knows this. He told us not to worry about going b/c he made the 17 hr trip for Jordan's graduation in Feb. '10 and he said he hated to see us do it, that it was bad enough on him. Plus I hate to make a 2nd 17 hr trip in the same vehicle and then turn around and do the mountain trip in September. Of course the "mom" in me wants to go if I have to walk. I'm sure I'll be satisfied no matter which I do!

Beth, in the form letter, did Evan say graduation is July 2nd? Joe did, but the navy website says they graduate Thursday July 1st. My son's girlfriend who's been through boot camp says graduation is always on Fridays. But, she wasn't there through a holiday, so I wonder if that makes a difference. Let me know what Evan put on his form letter. OSmething else to have to find out about! Arghhh! LOL Talk to ya later!

Hi Beth! Wondering how you're doing? Heard anything from Evan yet? We haven't heard from Joe. I just saw on someone else's blog that they've sent their son 17 letters and the son hasn't rec'd one! I tell you, the mail is terrible there. I'm so anxious to get my 1st letter and phone call!

Beth the Navy will give your son a phone card. No! Don't send anything to your son except letters and only the addresses on the outside of the envelope. They are very strict about the recruits receiving anything from home except the letters and your son could be made fun of if you write anything on the outside of the envelope. OK, now we have that settled. hahaha! But, yes, he will be able to make a call, in fact Jordan made several calls. In fact, she was able to tell Joe about when her next call would be. That doesn't mean our guys will have that luxury, but we'll see. Now, sometimes they use non phone calls as a form of punishment or discipline. Jordan was actually in a bad group/division (girls were mouthy), so her group might not have gotten as many opportunities to make calls as some of the others. But, it's still a little early for the calls. But, I'm thinking a letter this week or at least next week!! (There again, if they're good!) Got to watch Dancing With The Stars now. Talk to ya later! Ohhhhhhh, I for got to tell you!! We live in Cedar Point, NC.

Hi Beth! Yes, we rec'd the form letter soon after "the box" came. Joe's girlfriend graduated from boot camp in Feb. 12th and she said she was not surprised that we haven't heard anything yet. She said they allow one division at a time to make calls and that way the calls will be longer. There are 40+ in a division, once one div. has made a round of calls, they move on to the next one. That brings up a good point, because I remember when she called my son from there, she was able to talk for awhile. So, maybe if we can hold out and wait our turn, it will be worth it. I'll let you know when I hear something and you let me know when you hear. Where are you from?
