OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Separation from bootcamp

Posted on June 20, 2016 at 5:04pm 2 Comments

My son is in the separation process from bootcamp due to a medical issue.  Does anyone know how long the entire process can take?

Bootcamp misery!

Our son has been at bootcamp almost 3 weeks now and called yesterday and says it wants to come home. He said he was depressed, anxiety out the roof, and not sleeping. He said he was going to talk to someone on Monday and tell them he wants to go home. He said if he had to he would fake an injury. This is the same person who has wanted to join the navy since the sixth grade! I truly believe he needs to give it a couple of more weeks and see how he feels at that time. Everything I have read…

Don't forget to make the changes below.

See FAQ about SEPS and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/index.html for more information on SEPS. Be sure to have your recruit sign paperwork with legal so that they will be able to discuss the situation with you if your recruit wants that to happen. He will also have to sign the HIPAA form for you to speak with anyone about the medical condition. There is additional info for you at http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17 and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/ship5.txt.

FAQ about SEPS indicates that phone calls are authorized daily, but the recruits may not have access to phones every day to make calls. Those in SEPS are usually able to go to the NEX at least twice a week--females on Monday/Wednesday and males on Tuesday/Thursday--and sometimes on Saturday and the recruits are able to access the phone banks on those days and make calls if they have a phone card.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.

Since you have a recruit at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted." You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.
