OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Just so you have the complete picture. I marched in the Peace Movement in the 60s and my husband was a CO (not commanding officer). LOL
Go to Forum, go to "How to do stuff on N4M" I have posted a number of discussions that will help you navigate this site.

Thanks, Jack. The SF Bay Area Navy Families group was part of the Northern California Navy Moms group up until January. A group of ladies from the Nor Cal group thought some of us were too "social" and not serious enough. We were asked to take our social chit-chat to Facebook or My Space. That made no sense to me, since we were all together because we have a loved one in the Navy and we were all involved in other groups within Navy For Moms. So I started this group. What is your friend thinking of doing? Does he have any questions? What are your feelings about his going into the Navy? When my son first brought up the idea, I dismissed it. Thought he was joking.

But you want to stay with us anyway because moms know everything. Many dads come to our meet & greets. Here's a photo of the one at my house last Oct. Do you golf? My husband and a couple of the dads golfed last year and will go out again when the weather is better.

What stage is your friend at? OCS or getting his paper work through? On the SF Bay page, there is a discussion with some links to various other discussions on navigating this site. Our group is rather chatty. Join in anytime. Our priority is our sailors. If you start you comment with "SAILOR" whatever the conversation is will cease immediately and you will have the floor. mikes_mom has a son who is a corpsmen and in the middle of all the action. Two of his buddies were killed in the recent weeks. LoriLab's son is in training as a corpsmen. My son is a nuke officer on a sub - there are times when I don't hear from him for weeks. So the chit chat is our week of getting through the day. Welcome to the group.

Come visit our, to join, click on “+Join SF Bay Area Navy Families.” I am the creator and admin of the group. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you adjust to having a loved one in the Navy. Best wishes to your sailor or sailor to be. BunkerBee (mother of nuke officer)
