OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

NavyJane, Welcome aboard N4Ms neighbor. I am in OR. You will find the members very supportive & lots of info here. I hope you enjoy N4Ms. I sure wish I had known about this website when my son joined the Navy 4 years ago. If you haven't joined any groups yet, you might want to click on groups, then in the search box type in things like your state initials, or your sailor's bc location or bc. I would type in OR, HI, submariner for instance. There is a group called Washington-Oregon or something like that.. You will find those close to you and going through the same things you are or will be. And doing the settings on your profile is important. I ended up with 163 emails just from N4Ms one day. I closed off all mail from N4Ms then went to each group and clicked on do not follow, then make my settings more private. I am here if I can be a support. No one told me my son would not get my letters until the end of bc. He was overwhelmed to get them all at once. All these members are great. But be careful, remember OpSec.. Make sure you know them. Did you see Molly's Adopt a Sailor? I belong to Soldiers' Angels and we support all branches but don't seem to get many Navy so I am glad she is starting. Have you signed up for www.navy.mil on Internet for daily news and pics? That is how I learned my son had deployed, several days after he left. JessicaB-Sailor Mom always has good ideas and Irene has been around awhile and BunkerQUEENBee is quite knowledgeable. Take care. Blessings,
