This time last year we were leaving to head to Great Lakes for our oldest sons PIR. The entire trip, including the 15 hour car trip with my husband and other 2 children, was one of the greatest times of our lives. I wish I could do it again!! Fast forward he is now only 5 hours away and we see him as much as possible...who knows how long that will last! Loving it for now and savoring every moment..

We just booked the flight for our son to come home from Pensaola for 2 weeks starting Dec 21st!!! Can't wait to finally be able to spend some time with him other than the "drive-by" we had after PIR in September. Hopefully many, many of you will be able to do the same with your sailors!!!

My son graduated from boot camp on Friday and was in Pensasola Fl. Sunday morning. He has to go to Aircrew candidate school before A school (at least that is my understanding). And essentially another month of boot camp on the marine side of the base. Has anyone been down this road? It just starts my worrying all over again!!

Our son graduates this Friday... it is finally here!! We have been lucky enough to have talked to him 5 times since he got there which has been a huge blessing... even as recently as last night he called. He is very happy and can't wait until Friday. He said it is very low key now..they even got to eat Taco Bell one day!! To all the moms who still have weeks ahead... hang in there!! We thought we sent a wonderful, mature man... we are getting back even more than that!!

Hi Kathleen. My son is at A school in Great Lakes. He is undesignated for now. He finishes there on the 17th of Oct and then on to Pearl Harbor. He just called the other night and told us once he gets there he is being transported (somehow) to a port (somewhere) where he will be on a ship for 7 months. I asked him if he was excited or scared, and he said 'a little scared, I think'. I told him that's because it's the unknown and to know in your heart, this is what you have been training for. Hopefully, he will come to terms with it and become excited. He has always been my kid (I have four and he is the second oldest, at 23) that has not been good with change.
Finally have someone from NJ!!!! Talked to Joe last night and he said how excited he was to be going to the beach on Saturday!! Seeing him on 9-7 graduation he was so pale! Always being inside and if outside, covered up and his hat. So hope he will enjoy his time on Saturday!
Welcome Kathleen, how are you doing? we have just 24 more days and we will see our son's!! It's been a long day so far and it's only 12:00 noon here, lol! feeling a bit under the weather and missing my son, we are close and he is my youngest, so feeling the emptynest too, hahaha! clearly only something a parent can understand. Hope you are doing good and that you are getting letters and a few phone calls. take care and I will talk to you later.

Hi! I am finally on today. Sent you another message via chat. Hope you are holding up ok.
I just sent you a message through chat. :)
My oldest son is 22 and then I have 2 younger children, Bradley who is 10 and Ashley who is 5. They miss him so much. Ashley keeps asking when he is coming home and the worst part of that question is, I don't have an answer for her. :( Did you grow up in Haddon Heights? I graduated from High School there. In fact Matthew's girlfriend lives in Haddon Heights.
I'm so sorry, my name is Joyce. My sons name is Matthew and he is ship 14 div 289. His A school is in Connecticut. He is going to be on a nuclear sub. I feel the exact same as you. I honestly have been so sad and feel like no one in my family understands, especially my husband. I feel so alone in this. I have only met 2 other moms that are on my sons ship and division. I am trying to find out as much as possible because my son's recruiter was not honest in everything that was told to us I am finding out. I booked 2 rooms at the Marriott Courtyard. I heard that was really nice. Where are you staying? I booked it for 2 nights but not sure when my son is leaving for A school. Apparently you don't find out until you get there! I think that is so crazy.
Kathleen, I completely understand how you feel. These past 2 weeks have been so hard. I don't think I have ever cried so much. I knew this is what he wanted to do also but I still wasn't prepared to feel so sad. My son only did one semester of college before saying that was enough and signed up for the Navy! He has been in DEP since last December. Thought that would be enough time to change his mind but he didn't. It does help to talk to other moms that are going through the same thing. Do you know what A school he will be going to after?
Hi Kathleen! I see you are from Haddon Heights! Is your childs PIR 9/14/12 also?
