Hi Kathy: Glad to hear you enjoyed graduation and sounds like you got to enjoy a little bit of Chicago. We didn't do much when we were there - January with a high of -3. We drove through Chicago. Going back at Thanksgiving would probably be fun. Isn't graduation amazing? How long will your son be in Chicago? Did his wife get to go with him? Our son graduates Nov. 13 from officer training. We are planning on going to Rhode Island for it. It's been pretty difficult, but so far he has made it. I think he gets to come home for Thanksgiving! Hope school is going well for you. Take care!

Glad to hear your son is doing well. My son has been in Charleston for 2 1/2 years. Last month I helped him finish packing and cleaning (the Navy moved his stuff) and two weeks ago he headed to Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. He's been there 2 weeks - it's been a tough 2 weeks. I think he thought it would be more like boot camp but it is alot tougher than he expected. I missed his phone call today. So we are counting down to graduation on Nov. 13. His wife is working in South Korea, so he can't talk to her on the phone, only letters and eventually e-mail. The no contact thing is really hard! How's school going? I start on Tuesday. I think my hours will be 8:30-12:30 which I really like, even though I don't always leave at 12:30. Have a good week and stay in touch!

Hi Kathy:
I have gotten together with a few moms in the area. We met as a group a couple of times but it has been awhile. There are a couple that I have met with just for lunch or coffee. If you ever want to get together let me know - just for lunch or something. I work part time. Last year my hours were 8:30-12:30 or so. I live in Clintonville. In fact, I'm going to Grandview - Chocolate Cafe with some people this evening for awhile. I will let you know if I hear of any get-togethers in the area.

Hi Kathy:
I know some people in the Grandview Schools and we have been there for football games - our kids went to Whetstone. I am at Forest Park Elementary just off Karl Rd. Does your son know where corpman school is? There was another mom in Columbus whose son was in school in that area. A few of us have gotten together over the last couple of years. Have you heard from him at all yet? You usually get a short phone call. They have to earn phone privileges, but you can write them. Will his wife be able to join him when he gets to the new school? When my son heads to OCS it will be like boot camp all over again, not having any contact with him. Ugh! You will get some sort of "form letter" plus a box with his things, which is very weird. I waited awhile before I opened it. Well, once school starts the time will go really fast and he'll be finished. I have a daughter who will be at OSU this fall. Take care and enjoy the weekend.

Hi Kathy: You must keep busy! I like your wedding photos. Wow, he just left. This website is very helpful. It started about 6 months after my son went in - so it would have been very helpful during boot camp. How old is your son? My son is 26 - he got married a year ago in December while he was on leave. They got married December 23 2008 in his wife's backyard in Delaware Ohio. Yes, it was cold - everyone was in winter coats except the bride and there was an ice storm later that evening. Her sister and one of my son's friends took the pictures. He has been stationed in Charleston SC and going to nuclear school. He finished up last August and has been on hold, working in an office since then waiting to hear if he got into officer school. He starts that at the end of August in Rhode Island. Then he is going to oceanography/meteorology school. So he has been in almost 3 years and not been on a ship yet. I'm sure that time will come. Does your son know what area he will be in after boot camp. We only heard from our son maybe 3 or 4 times during bootcamp and he was gone for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. We went to PIR in Jan. and it was a high of -3 for the weekend! Hope the experience is good for your son. PIR is really wonderful - seeing them and how they change. Are you in Columbus Schools? This summer is flying by.

Hi Kathy: Are you new to the site? Is your son new to the Navy? This site is very helpful. I work for Columbus Schools as a tutor, just wondering if you are in Columbus Schools also. My son has been in for 3 years. Has he been through boot camp yet? Hope things go well for him.
