I am a mother of 4 young adults with young babies. I have a son, one of my twins who has just enlisted in the Navy. He is 28 years old. I am happy he has chosen this on his own and is excited to get on with his life. I am very close to all my children, but knowing I need to support him anyway I can, it makes me nervous with our world in such dangerous shape. I am very proud of his decision.

yes, you still need to make changes 2 and 3. Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make changes 2 and 3. There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

I think they do a lot of training inside. But they have outdoor gear for cold weather. With being below 0 I'm assuming they won't be outside much. So glad you got the box. The letter should come within the week! I'm looking at hotels right now. Red roof, navy lodge, and spring hill suites are the top ones looking into. Price wise, navy lodge or red roof are winning! But a suite and indoor pool would be nice. Sigh.....keep me updated on how he's doing. I will do the same!

Josh left on the 15th. So he graduates march 14th. Count 9 Fridays from the week he left and that should be his PiR date.
I was so excited to get the form letter with his address and ship/division info. I am going to send a letter off tomorrow. I got my form letter a week after I got his box.
We are staying at the ramada inn. It's 4 miles from base. Has indoor pool, bar, shuttle service to graduation, etc. you will get a pamphlet with the form letter.
No matter what age our kids are, they are kids to us always. My mom said when I had moved to California (when I was 19) she cried for days! And I was already a wife and had a 1 yr old! Josh will always be my baby no matter how old he is. And being away from him, especially with no contact, is extremely hard on everyone.
Josh told me he probably wouldn't write. Unless it's texting' I don't know if he knows how...hahahaaaaa! But he may see how alone he really is and want some connection with his family. But if he doesn't, just keep writing him. At least you know he's hearing your words!

I wasn't home for the box. BUt they left a tag that said I could pick it up that evening AT&T he fed ex place with address located on it. I did that instead of risking a missed delivery again. It's sad to see the clothes he was wearing the last time I saw him. So be prepared!

I will let you know when I get the form letter so you have an idea when you will get yours. You should get the box sometime this week. We had our first big family dinner without my son there for my moms bday. It was weird! I know the reason we don't hear from them for at least 2 wks, whether it's letters or phone, is becuz they are isolating them from everybody to kind of break them down and build them up without outside interference. But, it's hard! At least we know they are safe! Talk to you soon!

It is kind of confusing. You can either send a private message or comment directly to them. The other thing I have done is the chat room. It should be one the bottom right of your page at all times. You can make it bigger and jump right in. It's always going with many people all talking. Kind of fun! Or comment in the boot camp group page. Or the leave in January group page. I just play around and see what I find! It is nice to know we are not alone. There are days I'm just fine, but since it's been almost 2 weeks and no words from Josh, I'm getting a little emotional. I have never gone more than a week without talking to him. I'm still waiting on the form letter. And waiting sucks!

In about 6 days you should get the "box", and then a few day after the form letter. I am still waiting on the form letter. Day 7 was my hardest day! But I know this is good for him. They get times to call. Either they earn them or they get to half way thru. I'm hoping to hear from him soon! I miss him terribly. Hope you are staying warm up north! I luv Traverse City. I adopted my dog from a pet rescue when we we're up there for a weekend years ago!

Since your SR has a contract for Air Traffic Controller (AC), join Air Traffic Controller Moms, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola and check out Airman Family and Friends. The Rating Information Card for AC can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ac.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter.
