OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
I am the mother of two young men. My oldest son has just joined the Navy and I have so many questions about Navy life I scarecly know where to begin. My career is as a hospice chaplain and in my work I meet people from all over who have many experiences unlike my own in life. Almost always, in some form or another I ask the question, "what's this like for you?" This is what I want most to know from people - especially now from Navy moms.
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
I really don't have much experience, yet. My son has just returned from MEPS and doesn't leave for boot camp for another four months.
Our Navy experience so far...
The Navy was not the right path for my loved one/me.

Since you have an SR at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted."

You are very welcome. I see you have joined AB - Moms; you will also want to join Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola. You may also want to check out Airman Family and Friends. The Rating Information Card for AB can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ab.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Welcome to NavyforMoms.com.  My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012.  He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron.  He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic.  I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.  My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)

If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp.  I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
Welcome Aboard and I wish your Sailor Fair Winds and Following Seas.
