Hi rncrew, hope they can help you with your request to leave earlier. Our son tried that as well but the report dates are tied to the schools and the schools are back up so my guess is that won't be an option but only your recruiter can tell you for sure. Our son is JUST getting started to doing his job! You will spend the first 18 - 24 months in schools between A and C school and then you will report to your first ship. Generally you come home on leave after A school and after C school before reporting to the ship but this all depends on your orders and reporting dates. With all new fleet sailors under E5, they do cranking duty which generally means you work in the galley or the Chief's Mess - serving your shipmates for three to six months. Time varies from ship to ship depending on their needs. While you are doing this - it is your only job so ...our son did it for three months and NOW 27 months after joining the Navy - he is really doing his job and he does enjoy it. He is actually working on his application for the officers program as he has decided this is a good career for him. He has no family right now but a steady girlfriend in HI who is from California but attending the university there. For those with families on his ship - they will be sad this year as they will be deployed 10 out 12 months in the year ahead however they have been in their home port for the last 10 months with their families. It's not always easy being in the military but it can work. You will also earn 30 days leave a year. My hubby was a sailor for 10 years and we lived thru lots of deployments.

Welcome to AECF group! I see you are waiting to leave for boot camp - when is your report date? Our son is an FC, he graduated about two years ago and is now happily stationed in Hawaii :-) Our group is an active one, please let us know what questions that you may have or if you want to send your family to us - we will be sure to support them well while you are in boot camp. Good luck to you!
