OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. Don’t forget to click the “Save” button at the bottom.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your Sailor.

Since you have a Sailor, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted." You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.

Hi Sluie,

I  would be excited to write to anyone.  I write to my SR every day so I will just write a little more.  Also, the woman who runs the USO at Travis air base would also like to be included.  Her nephew graduated from Navy Boot Camp in December and would love to help.

Thanks,

Coolmom1

Thank you lemonplanet. It is great all of the information you all offer here. This is my first time dealing with the military. I will join the groups you suggested. Thank you so much for the advice!

Machinist Mate (MM) has “A” School at Great Lakes. Join Machinest Mates and check out Engineers, Snipe Moms, and Snipe Moms(enginers). You will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.

The Rating Information Card for MM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mm.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)
