Blessings In A Box

I received "the box" yesterday. I was so excited to open it. The smell of my son came home. As I pulled the jeans from the box, I smiled as contents of the pockets came spilling out. Pretty typical for his laundry. I was even happier to discover the day's mail contained the form letter complete with address. Hooray! I can finally write!

As I sat down to devour the form letter and accompanying brochure, I turned on the news. Within moments came the story telling of how three of our… Continue

Waiting and Waiting and Waiting...

Today is the first day I have really felt down since my son left for bc. I did not get the phone call saying he had arrived. I see from many other posts this is not terribly abnormal, so I am not as worried as I might have been. Thanks to N4M for the wonderful resources! Wish I could be a mouse on the wall to watch my son go through this experience. I am guessing there is a reason mom's are not welcomed to watch training. (lol) I will wait patiently (or not) for the box and the letter. Can't… Continue

Smiles (with a few tears of pride)

As I left the room where my son was sworn in this morning, tears of pride filled my eyes. I wasn't all out sobbing mind you, just a few tears spilling over. Several soldiers of all branches were quick to offer comforting words. So, thoughtful...I couldn't bring myself to explain the tears were pride beyond any other emotion...not sadness. As we left, my husband and I began to speculate on the job description of MEPs personnel. How many of the official job descriptions say, "Comfort mothers" or… Continue

Strong and Courageous

A few short years ago (18 to be exact) I held my infant and called him Joshua for the first time. As I drive my son to MEPs today, it is evident he grew into the young man in scripture whom he was named after. Joshua 1:9 says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." My son's unwavering commitment to his decision is admirable. He is calm in his excitement to begin his journey. I know… Continue

Journey

The journey is about to begin. My son ships out on July 9th. He has dreamt of becoming a Navy SEAL for a long time. I am so proud of the young man he has become and can't wait to see him blossom throughout this journey. This is my first of three children to leave my home. I vacillate between prayers and biting nails to marking off the days on the calendar. At what point do the questions and concerns of a mother's heart get replaced with calm and confidence? Is it boot camp graduation, each step… Continue
