7 Days and she will be leaving for boot camp.
I am trying not to overthink the details of the process. I think we have things under control , which is really just an illusion anyway, they tell me. Today has been a strange day , though , one of those days that seems to pass very slowly as if it is a dream.
She is spending as much time with friends as she can, and as she should, before she leaves. Friends , old and new, try to find a time to see her and wish her well. I wonder what she is thinking as the time draws nearer.
She seems mentally prepared and seems eager to start her new life. I hope this path gives her the purpose and direction that she is seeking. I hope she finds out how strong and capable she is .
I think she is. I am trying to be.
Ladichez , Sorry , I dropped off the face of the earth for a while. My daughter arrives the 22nd. Maybe they will be in the same training group ? How are you holding up ? I'm kind of in shock right now. We didn't get to spend much time with her in the last 3 weeks , so I am hoping I can get through this.
Irene , I was hoping to have a big send off for my sailor , but wasn't able to . I think maybe she is distancing herself from us because she has a hard time with goodbyes. But, I wanted to spend more time with her than i was able to . She goes to MEPS today and ships out tomorrow evening. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll be waiting for my call tomorrow night.
Ladichez , did your daughter make it okay? Did you hear from her ? I fully expect my daughter's cell phone to be dead and for her not to remember how to use the calling card.
Skeeter, if she has her cell phone or calling card, maybe you will hear from her after MEPS. Sometimes you feel like there were so many things you wanted to say, but didn't. My son called me several times from his cell phone after MEPS until he finally boarded the plane for Chicago. I really treasured those phone calls. Then, he called me when he landed at the airport. Then, I finally got the call when he arrived at boot camp. All of these little steps help get us through. The next step is receiving the box, then the form letter, then I got my first phone call on a Saturday (which helped immensely), and since then I have received 4 letters and 2 more phone calls. We all love our kids so much. This was seriously one of the most difficult things I, as a parent have ever gone through. Imagine what our kids are going through? I think they are a bit more distracted. You'll be fine. Try not to have any regrets and don't look back. Look forward. The future is very exciting for our SR's. Take care.
Irene, she has her phone and calling card , so maybe she will have time....I miss her already. I am so glad I found this website. I would be a nervous wreck without all of you. She sounds nervous , but excited about the future , so I agree with you - we will look forward and think of all the good things to come for our sailors. When does your son PIR? Looking forward to hearing about it when he does.
