I put my baby boy on a plane to Great Lakes on Wednesday,July 29th.He hadn't slept for 2 nights and was so nervous he was throwing up. I haven't seen my son cry since he was little, always playing the tough guy role, but he cried so much that day that I truly thought he would be coming back home with us. I'm so very proud that he got on that plane and followed his dreams in spite of the pain he was feeling at leaving his friends and family behind to train to serve our country. My heart hurts so much with his absence yet swells with pride when I think of the amazing opportunities he has ahead. The wait for his box and form letter is overwhelming. More than that, the wait for a letter or phone call to know he's doing well....

Our recruiter gave us his address the day after he shipped. I've been checking with him to see if it has changed about every 3 days. So far it has not. He is Ship 13, Div 319. Hopefully I'll get the Form letter today or tomorrow.

Great same ship, different Div, I've sent him multiple letters and cards (actually tomorrow is his 18th b-day) and recruiter said grad date is 9/25/2015

You are not the only one, it is hard to let go but we have to be strong and support our kids. My son left on July 15th and it was the same story, he cried and I cried, I still do, I miss him so much. Keep strong, we have such good kids and they are following their dreams.

My son was sworn in July 23. I live close so I was able to be there. I got his first letter yesterday. I can't imagine living so far from him, but that will be soon I'm sure. I believe his A school is in Mississippi. His father will/ has received the box. I wish I had so I could hold his clothes one more time. The next time I see him, I know he will be a changed young man (for the better) I'm glad to know I'm not crazy for missing him so much. Missing the little things, the texts, lunch, just looking at him, just knowing he's in the house. Thank you all for sharing your feelings!

I got the form letter today! Woohoo! Going to book my flight and room this weekend. The confirmation that his graduation is the day before my birthday made me cry...again. Love love love that I get time with my boy as a birthday gift! Yay me!

My older brother was the same way when he was in the Army. Every time he had to leave he couldn't eat, sleep, and would vomit from the nerves, but I assure you as soon as he got there he adjusted well! The nice thing about the military is that you have other guys around the same age going through the same thing and they help each other get by. I live close to
Chicago, so my fiance left for boot camp on 8/2. We got his box Tuesday and the form letter Saturday(contains address, PIR date, password for PIR parking, and intended PIR guests). His PIR date is 9/25, so I assuming yours will be too. I definitely can relate, the separation is tough but I am so proud! I may be biased, but the Navy is the best branch and really sets you up for a great future. (It's hard to compare the Navy to the Airforce, as you mentioned above. Most Navy guys don't see conflict like in the Middle East. My brother was deployed to Afghanistan and I am glad I most likely will never have to deal with my fiance going there because he is in the Navy.) Hope this helps.

Stay strong!

My son left for boot camp 7/20 and we received his box 7/24 and the form letter 7/28. I just got the first letter from him 8/7 and the first call home 8/8.  He said that they can only mail things on Sundays. After talking to him, I felt so much better because he sounded good.  I miss him a lot but knowing that he is happy makes it all good. Hang in there Moms!!!
