We are now to the last two handfuls of days. It is in our thoughts often, and wherever we go, our friends are all saying "good luck", "be careful", "we are proud of you", "thank you for serving", and "we love you" to my future sailor. (It makes me teary when people thank me for raising a son who wants to serve.) I know he is thinking about leaving soon as well. He told me that he is not a good writer, and needs to stay focused on what he will be doing, so if he doesn't write that is why. Now, I don't lecture much, but then he said  that I was not allowed to give him any more lectures when he returns from the Navy. He said that he will get enough of that in the Navy, so whenever he comes home, I just have to go with the flow.  Hmmmmmmm. I told him that's what mothers do, and that I reckon he'd miss it if I didn't. LOL! He did laugh about that.

We are treasuring these days, and he has already looked to see when the PIR might be. He told me that I might have to miss part of pre-planning or the first week of school. Didn't tell him, but I had looked at that the day he told me when he leaves. I am so blessed to have a principal who has a son in the military. She and I have already talked about it, and going to see my son has priority over school. She said that I am a mother and wife first, and teaching is what I do for a living. Even though I had already planned to go, that was such a relief to hear. So, as the day approaches I read what  others have  written, take advice from those who have gone through this before, and am thankful that I have this place for support. Have a good weekend.

He has to understand that at home, YOU, his mother, will ALWAYS be his CO under your roof.  When he comes home on leave, he can't curse, or stay out all night without letting you know so you don't worry, it is disrespectful... and sailors should always carry themselves with respect.    Mom is ALWAYS the Commander in Chief at home.

Sorry, just see too many moms who have kids come home for a visit and act like they're too big for their Navy britches!

And yes, he'll write.  All the other guys will be writing, he'll want to fit in.  He just doesn't know it yet.

He knows. I did have to laugh when I read it. I will remind him I am his CO at home. We have talked about writing. He told me today he is excited. These 10 days are going to fly by now. He said that the previous 9 months have dragged by, and finally it is going faster. I am excited for him, but sure will miss that boy!
