**Admin Update: New Category "Scuttlebutt” **

Alright N4M's:

You're thirsty. Heh. It was requested that N4M's make time and space for a Scuttlebutt corner. Thus... after working out some ground rules (with a member and our Navy contacts)... we have a brand new category going up tonight.

"Scuttlebutt” First off... what is it?

Sailors exchanged gossip when they gathered at the scuttlebutt for a drink of water). It's an old Navy term. This can be the place where we discuss politics, current events and hot topics outside of the Navy that can affect our loved ones in the military. You can post articles and links that might be interesting and informational.

Secondly... We are laying down some ground rules.

Some things that are inappropriate would be:
(1) Threatening dialogue about any political figure.
(2) Illegal activity should not be suggested.
(3) Differences of opinion are welcome, but it MUST be respectful and articulate.
(4) No personal attacks or “cheap shots” on other N4M’s Members.

**Please note that N4M’s main reason for being here is for support and education.**

If I repeatedly have to remove unacceptable posts and/or “trolls” from here, we will take this section down. If you want to debate, be civil about it. (Note, backing up your opinions with legit sources is helpful in articulating your view). Also, be aware, that if you are debating with somebody- there are no wins or losses. You probably will not change their mind on a subject. You will have to agree to disagree. Admin reserves the right to take down any questionable content.

Also, If you state a fact, you must source it also.

Rule: If you are out of line and breaking the rules- I will temporarily ban you from SB (for 48 hours). I will post it in the forum- and also send you a PM. If you are unable to abide from these rules and decide not to follow the 48-hour ban from SB- you will be banned from the site. No exceptions.

Final Note:
The views and opinions expressed here are not supported or endorsed by the
US Navy or the Department of Defense.

Alright. Whew. I think that's it. Happy Debating.
Sincerely, Catherine

Ah, the terminology brings back some memories. That's great!

Honcho-Dori is the correct name of the street which gave rise to hunky-dory. Basically means Main Street. And now, for the rest of the story: There is a Honcho-Dori right outside the Main Gate in Yokosuka, which inherited the story when Yokohama was no longer a major Navy port. Once lined end to end with bars, not so much now the dollar is weak. It led to the old Navy Club Alliance offbase, Dad told me good tales about that place. And Shioiri train station, but the club was the destination half the time.. The old Club A closed after I was stationed there and a new Club Alliance was opened at the Main Gate. The Honch was never off limits, but we were warned about certain bars. Most, if not all, of them have closed and gone away.
