Helllo, I'm new to this. I came across he website becuase I was googling answers to the many questions I had, so I figured I could give this a try.. My boyfriend left for bootcamp on Monday, I cried like a baby when he first left, of course. But surprisingly, Tuesday&Wednesday were really easy for me. Yesterday it really hit me that he is gone. I just feel so lonely. & dont know how to handle it really. I dont have anyone to really talk to about it, because no one understands.
Now, my questions for you are: How long until I recieve the first letter? Or when do i get the address to write him?&I know bootcamp is 8 weeks, but do those 8 weeks start the day he arrived? How do I know when to start counting down? I've also started writing him everyday, is that going to be too much for him to read once he can recieve mail? Should I not write so much?
Welcome. The form letter from him that will give you his address and PIR date will arrive to you or his parents within the first 10 days and the box within the first 2 weeks and the first real letter at about 3 weeks. Boot camp is 7 to 10 weeks with the average being 8 1/2 weeks. You will know his PIR date sometime within the next 2 weeks when the official form letter arrives from him. His PIR is most likely 10/26/2012, but could also be the week before (possible if he is one of the last to fill his division, which sometimes happens for those arriving at the beginning of the week) or the week after, which happens more for those arriving at the end of the week or if a week is skipped, which doesn't usually happen at this time of year. The total weeks begin at arrival the Day of Training (DOT) begins once processing (P-days) is over. Yes, write every day and number your letters. Letters are a lifeline for the recruit so write often and encourage others to write as well. He can only write on Sundays at first beginning the first Sunday he is in his ship, which may not be until the second or third Sunday that he is at the RTC. Once he is in his ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer (MPO) is trained for the division, mail call will be every weekday evening (M-F).
