OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

What ship will he be with and/or what is his rating (job/specialty)? There may be a group on here for that and they can fill you in on how things are on that particular vessel.

BTW, edit your Blog to add a Post Title. When you don't include a title, the NING program automatically puts the first 200 characters of your post in as the title and that gets pretty long. Click "Options" in the upper right, then "Edit Post" and insert a title.

If he is to be on the USS George Washington (CVN 73), join the group, USS George Washington Sailors.

what is the ship address

Comment by lemonelephant on June 7, 2013 at 5:52pm

http://www.gw.navy.mil/ gives: USS George Washington (CVN 73) Box 10 FPO AP 96650-2801, but the addresses are different based on the part of the ship where your Sailor will be working. Another loved one on USS George Washington Sailors has a zip of 96601-2801.

Be sure to ask your Sailor for the orrect address and make sure that he has submitted your name and contact info to the Ombudsman so that you get updates from the Family Readiness Group (FRG).
