Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It's so hard to believe there are just 34 more days left with Josh until he leaves to start his new life!  The time has flown by; so fast in fact, that I find myself in this surreal situation watching my middle son become a man before my very eyes.  Words will never adequately express how proud I am of him, how much I will miss seeing his face each day, his wit and sarcasm, and all the joy he brings to the house.  It's so amazing how quickly this has come about, even though it's been 6 months in the making.  34 days!  He's grown so much as a person, physically and emotionally, and yet still has so much growing to do.  I'm so excited for him, and yet, of course, scared as well.  I wish for him great success and adventure, safety and security. I wish he would be there this summer to experience all our family will do, and it will be so strange doing those things without him there.  This new chapter in our lives will be most interesting, and I hope a very rewarding experience for us all.

I'm discovering I have a lot of emotion around this departure that I have not yet dealt with. I so badly want to hold him in my arms, as only a mother can do, and tell him all of what I'm feeling; but I fear my words will fail me and I'll not be able to adequately relate what I feel.  I don't want to give him pause, only encouragement, but I fear I may mess it up and make him feel bad about his choice.  I don't want to allow this fear to take away from the chance to share some deep feelings; I'm just not sure how to put them into words.

So, as I write this, and cry, I wonder if I will be able to tell him all I need and want to before he leaves to start anew. I ask only for courage and energy to endure and do the right thing in my support of my fantastic future sailor!

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in June. You will meet others with loved ones leaving the same day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together, who are going through the same things you are. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
