Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

until scheduled departure. K had her "less than 60 days to go" meeting with the Chief at the Recruiting Station yesterday. All of a sudden, she is worried that somehow she will lose IS or something will happen and she won't be able to get into the Navy at all. I'd love to say she is being silly but you never know. The good side of that is, she has been deciding what she will do if that happens. Her second choice is to finish college now (yippee!). She thinks if she doesn't get IS and/or Navy for some reason, she would like to be a child psychologist (2nd choice). Not her first choice, but one she would be happy with if her 1st choice doesn't work out.
We are planning her "Anchors Aweigh" party. She is having it about 3 weeks before departure so her friends who are home for Christmas holidays can attend. She is starting to get excited about that. Just an open house type of evening. I will make a couple of pots of soup, appetizers, breads, drinks and people can drop in when they want. I am asking everyone to write a note or letter that I can send to Kaitlin while in BC. I will have a table set up with supplies. Even just writing down a joke or memory to send will be good.
One last thing we are doing is getting a family portrait today. Who knows when we will all be together again and be able to get one made professionally? That is making me tear up. I'm sure it will be fine, just part of the emotional roller coaster.
In her head she knows she is okay. She kind of sets herself up for disappointment so she will be prepared or extremely happy when everything works out as planned. It's a strange way of getting to her back up and back up to back up plan.
If she were called early, she'd go in a heartbeat. She'd be disappointed to miss Christmas but we are all prepared just in case. Someone asked her today if she is excited and she replied with an enthusiastic, "YES!"
