I spent the better part of this week preparing for JUST the high school presentation of Scott's acceptance to Annapolis today. His dress pants, too short from internships in years past, LONG hours at the Geek Squad before, during and after the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.... had to be replaced 2 days before the event. I had to gently wake the sleeping exhausted bear from his state of hibernation, for which he graciously thanked me later. Last night he asked about his 6 yr old brother coming to the event...... Oops, I did not think to ask Scott if he WANTED Blake there. Ran out to Target in search of dress pants, and NON-velcroed tennis shoes. Have never shopped so fast in my life. Ended up buying pants a size (or 2) bigger. Hemmed them a good 3-4 inches. Great.... Now Blake can wear them thru college! We were fortunate to find a generic yellow and navy blue polo... in a size 4. 100% cotton. Guess Scott will get a T-Shirt/Polo Shirt Pillow to put on that navy regulation bed at the academy.

Went to the presentation today. 4 Students going the the academies. 1 West Point, 1 Annapolis, 2 AF - Colorado Springs. Sat next to the nicest man from the American Legion, and the most offensive woman from the Optomist Club. HUH? Scott had informed me that the congressman might be presenting awards. Felt if reasonable to save a seat, as I could not envision a navy mom in the front row and the congressman 3 rows back. I guess I thought I had saved it, but after her glare, I thought my 6 yr old could sit on my lap. I am certain not all optomist members are so curt. I could not see a cat fight occuring on my son's special day. Must be a God thing.

While chatting with Scott and his Blue & Gold officer, Scott mentioned that he has about 75 days. Guess he forgot to keep the tally updated on his dry erase. My countdown clock on my profile page says 68 days. I think I will let him recalc it, and not be such a "mom".

All in all, I watch him and the really sweet things he does. For now I am savoring every moment. He has been mentoring a 4th grade class, thru a program at his HS. This week his class has had standardized testing, so he made a "good luck" sign and brought donuts early one morning this week. I am getting ready to do the "mommy" thing and get ahold of the elementary teacher to ask for "good luck letters" to put in a care package.

Not sure 68 days in enough time for my plotting and scheming for surprises, but I will sure try.
