Or if there is any way I can move out to pensacola Florida in an apartment- and have him live with me during his schooling? Nice. Valerie how long is your husbands schooling? So basically, what I will have to do- because I know that his schooling isn't like longer than 12 months. I will get an apartment, and he will have to get a brown bagger chit aproved? Is that what you did? I will probably be moving out there in early october. Valerie are you able to sleep with him at night from your apartment?

Pensacola has Pensacola Junior College and The University of West Florida.

My husband is aircrew so he will be here for about a year, if not longer.  He got here on april 29th and I moved here on may 4th. When they get to school they go through phases. Phase 1 is what they start out at and they have to be back on base every night by 9pm and they have to be in uniform at all times. Phase 2 is when they can finally wear civilian clothes and their curfew is 10pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Phase 3 they are able to stay off base all weekend. They have to do different things to earn each phase. It only took my hubby 4 days to get phase 2. When he got phase 2 he was allowed to apply for his brown bagger status. And by may 18th he was living in the apartment with me :) He's goes back to base from 5:45 -2pm and then he's home for the rest of the night. The navy does not pay for the move so just start saving now. There are some really nice areas and some bad areas down here so make sure you read the reviews on the apartments. And you can message me and I'll let you know if they are good or not :)

Thanks so much Valerie! Did he get the apartment for you when he was down there? Or did you apply for your apartment from a different state? You are very helpful! :)

I searched online and looked up reviews and called and got everything set up from Indiana. It was super stressfull but it was easier then I expected it to be.

Your husband is allowed to request brown bagger status so he can live off base with you. My husband is in his 3rd week at RSS and he comes home everyday after training... just like a normal 9-5 job. We live in apartment that's about 15 minutes from base. They only issue is that the Navy will not pay for you to move out here because he's in training... so if you can afford it - do it!

What is your hubby's rate?  Like everyone said, your hubby will have to put a request in for brown bag status.  Is he going to be at NAS or Corry?  My hubby is at NAS and is AIRR candidate.  I moved down here on June 8th.  He phased up fast and put in his request for brown bag.  However it got denied....but he does get to come home everyday till 10pm and then he stays on the weekends.  He can apply again for brown bag after his aircrew school when he is in RSS.  It is harder for AIRR candidates to get brown bag.  Do you have children?  I don't but my husband was told that it was easier for people to get brown bag if they have children.  They Navy will not pay for you to move down, you have to do it own your own dime.  Also they will give your husband grief about applying for brown bag and why you moved down.  But don't worry...they can't stop you from moving down to be with your hubby.  I say do it...and cherish the time you get to spend together!

Thanks! He will be at NAS I believe. I hope that they do not give him grief. And they need to be understanding that it's not very healthy for married couples to be apart for a year and a half? Just saying. :) How do you like pensacola? Is it hard on your own? Are you going to college out there? I will probably be moving down there in september.

Yeah they do! My husbands training is long so there was no way I was going to be apart from him that long. I've been down here for almost a month and so far it's okay. I've lived in Charlotte all my life so it does take some adjusting. It's very touristy bc it's s beach town. It's very hot here and humid. I graduated college a few years ago and I had a job as an assistant customer service manager at a grocery store in Charlotte. Right now I'm just getting settled and I might get a part time job down here. But there is Pensacola state college. Very close to base. You should def look into that if you plan on going to school here.
