All is well for today...received the "I'm Here" call last night

Day 3:  It doesn't help that its raining here, and all dark and gloomy - I was already feeling a little on the blue side.  Then, as my husband and I were driving to work, what song pops into my head????  Rainy Days and Monday's by the Carpenters LOL  I had to laugh at the irony, which was good because I needed a good laugh, even if it was at myself.

My son called at 8:55 pm last night - Hi Mom, I'm here (me-Oh good...that was fast)...Yea, you will be getting my box in about two weeks (me-Oh ok)...And I'll be able to write a letter in a week or so (me-Ok I can't wait)...Ok (me-remember to take one day at a time and keep a positive outlook) to which he interupted and replied OK, I have to go now (me - I love you son)...I love you too mom. Bye (Bye)    It lasted 49 seconds.  We were in the car coming back from dinner and I just lost it and my husband was wonderful, took my hand and just let me sob for a bit.  It was a good thing he was driving because I'm pretty sure my "cry face" was just horrible :)

I went in his room last night...pulled out all the cards he received at his open house and read them - I took his wallet (that he made out of playing cards - I told him he should sell some like that!) and put it in my purse.  Its something that was unique to him, and very special to me now.  I can pull it out and look at it and it just makes me smile.  If I figure out how to post pictures I will put one up!  I smelled his comforter, but it didn't really smell cuz I just washed it :)  BUT, it was the act of pulling it into my face and just feeling it.  I get it now...why mom's do that!  Its comforting.

I'm still not able to eat a lot...nothing tastes good and doesn't seem to sit right.  That's what happens when I am nervous, or upset or worried...might actually drop those extra pounds before PIR LOL  I worry about him and these next days/weeks but I know that he'll get through it because he's my son.  He can do anything, and I taught him never to quit.  The deal was if he didn't like it, he could quit in 5 years :)

Anyway, I feel a bit better already, knowing that I have this place to come to, to unload, to read and be refreshed and to offer words of support to those taking this journey with me.  We are Navy Moms...WOW

Judy,

No worries there - this is the only place I'll be venting the worry/sad/stress.  Letters will always be supportive, positive, uplifting and about him...this is HIS story...I'm just along for the ride :)

It's so hard to think that after tomorrow, I won't be able to talk to him when I want. I won't know when he will reappear. I don't know when he will come back into our home. I remember the sweet little mischievous face. And know he is grown. What will he be like when he does come home again? Will I recognize his personality?
