It can take 2-3 weeks to receive the form letter (although most receive it in 2 weeks or less), especially if he was one of the first to fill his division and had to wait for others to come in the next week, which is possible since he arrived near the end of the week.  Yes, your SR must put stamps on letters to mail them, but he is able to purchase stamps if he didn't take any with him.

The division number above is incomplete.  Division numbers are 3-digit numbers, so if you only have Division 3, then you need to call the recruiter again for the division number and then double-check the address for the ship against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or wait a few more days for the form letter to have the correct info.

I know of at least four divisions that are on Ship 3 that arrived that week, so more information is needed.  Two of those divisions have been confirmed to have PIR on 11/02/2012 (Divisions 353 and 354) and the other 2 (Divisions 359 and 360) may have PIR that week or the following week depending on how many divisions are in the 11/02/2012 TG.

Yes, the form letter will have important information for you.  If you receive a "real" letter without receiving the form letter, you can write to your SR and ask that a form letter be sent to you or ask him for the password you will need to get the vehicle pass for PIR, his PIR date, and the names of the 4 people he plans to put on the Access List.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

sorry for my typo.. its DIV 360..  we didnt have any of the info beforehand that i have learned so much from this website..  my son didnt take money for stamps.. i wander if he is in the dark as much as i am ={

You are very welcome.  He doesn't need money and, like I said, he can purchase stamps, but you can send him a book of stamps if you want.

You can get calling cards (actually a phone number and PIN) at http://callsforrecruits.org/. Ronny and Anna provide those through that website if you email and ask for them. They will email you around 12, but will send more if you need them.  Each PIN that is provided is a one time use number.  He will need a calling card to make calls to you and although he can buy a calling card there, it takes time away from his calling time to activate it, so why have him buy one when you can get these free.

FREE CALLING CARDS =} I sent a comment to them on their page!!  I feel like Im finally getting somewhere..

Is there anything else that I need to know to help my son contact me or do's and don'ts for BC?

Write often and encourage others to write as well.  Be encouraging and don't share any bad news that could be distressing for him.  Read the RTC's Family Guide (clickable link).  There will also be a lot of information and support for you in Boot Camp Mom's, New Members Stop Here and PIR Reference Information.

To get the calling cards, send an email to CallsforRecruits@gmail.com requesting the cards and they will email back the PIN's.  http://callsforrecruits.org/phone-cards-info/ gives you information about them.

Thanks for the compliment.  Yes, my Sailor is doing well.

Division 360 has been confirmed to have PIR on 11/02/2012.  You should be getting the form letter soon since others with loved ones in that division received it today.  Divisions 359 and 360 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so watch for others with loved ones in either division.

today is a better day!  As we are making dinner last night.. my husband says.. "I have a suprise for you".. and pulls out the Form Letter!

it was such a relief just to see his handwriting.  it was at least a piece of him that he can send home.. (still with his sense of humor added).  I also received an email back with the info for free calling cards!!

I will watch for loved ones in Div359 also =}  thanks again for all of your help!! i hope to help someone else if needed.
