anyone else finding this....... My insurance agent tells me, that unless my18 year old daughter relenquishes her NC driver license, she has to covered under our auto insuance policy even tho she is shipping out 7/13 and won't be residing in our home or driving our car. so what has anyone else had happen in this regard. I find it silly to pay double the insurance on someone not living in the home basically for the next 6 years.

I also live in NC and had some of these same questions for our insurance company (Nationwide.) In NC once you have insurance you must maintain insurance or turn in your drivers license. To take her off your policy she must prove she has insurance in her name or is on someone's policy. Since she does not have a car she can get a non-owners policy in her name which is much cheaper and she can still be covered for those occasions when she does drive. I hope this helps. I am not sure how many companies provide non-owners policies. I know Nationwide does because our 16 yr old son has one.

I'm with STate Farm in Mississippi...they removed Tyler while he was at boot camp and A-school....when he got to duty station they added him back on the insurance on his truck..no increase in rates...he's now deployed overseas and they have removed him again...will add him back when he returns to truck...I've had no problems so far.

Wow, here in California I was able to change the status of my daughter showing that she is more than 150 miles from home and not driving. When she returns home for less than 30 days I don't have to do anything and she is still covered under my policy and it doesn't cost me anything... Once she is finally stationed somewhere and if she was to get a car, I am guessing she will get USAA insurance, but as of right now, she is covered. So when she comes home from A school, she can drive my car and be fully covered. I have CSAA (California State Automobile Association) insurance.
